- Have you ever wondered what the S.P.Q.R. sign that is all over Rome means? Here is the answer!
Below is the literal English translation to help you match the Italian to the English.
Hey guys,
I'm here in front of the statue of Julius Caesar, along the Fori Imperiali, in the center of Rome and today I wanted to give you a piece of information on this sign right below this statue. The signs is (says) S.P.Q.R. But what does S.P.Q.R. mean? This is not the first time you'll see this sign. In fact, if you ever walk around the streets of Rome, you will find it everywhere. S.P.Q.R. is the Latin acronym for Senatvs PopvlvsQve Romanvs, that in Italian means The Senate and the People of Rome. I hope that with this little detail you have learned something new so that the next time you are in Rome, you can brag about it with all of your friends.
Thank you and I'll see you guys next time!

Still so helpful in 2020.
No problem I Will ask the owner of the channel to put spanish subtitles for You!
Then learn Italian, you dimbo.
Im pretty sure she was talking to me saying she would like to come to America and marry me.
I wish I wasn't studying Italian in college so I could imagine she was saying that.
Finn Im spanish so I learn perfectly italian, and I dont study it, like you! Ha

I speak Italian so this is no problem for me but, why is the title English and the video Italian
I think the same
I speak Spanish and with the subtitles I could basically understand what she was saying
ЭКЗАКТЛИ
senatus populusque romanus; the senate and the people of rome
The important thing we learned is S.P.Q.R is Italian.
(Let's be honest we are all here to watch the lady speak... )
It’s not Italian. It’s Latin. Different language altogether.
@@ailleananaithnid2566 bro swear? Italian and Latin are two different languages???? Wow... Thank you for enlightening us with so much wisdom, no one knew.
P. S. Latin is however an Italic language.
SPQR means *"Senātus Populusque Rōmānus"* or in english *"The roman senate and people."*
Since this was neither in English, nor Latin, with subtitles for neither, I'll provide the answer.
S.P.Q.R. stands for "Senātus Populusque Rōmānus", which in English, translates to, "The Roman Senate and People", though as wikipedia indicates, the loosely translated version is, "The Senate and People of Rome", which is my personally preferred translation of the text. S.P.Q.R. indicated a clear message when emblazoned upon banners, shields, currency, and legal documents; _This_ belongs to Rome, and its people - with the abbreviation referencing The Roman Senate, and Rome's people.
Why on earth the channel would pin a comment self-advertising instead of just providing the answer people were seeking, is entirely unknown to me. The Romans didn't speak Italian, so there is no authenticity added by speaking it in the video.
Ave Roma. Ave Portucale. Roma invicta.

0:34 how to pronounce "SENATUS POPULUSQUE ROMANUS"

Shouldn't that last "u" be longer?
Nvmd it's all nominative.
A beautiful woman discussing the Roman Empire, best video on the site lol
Beautiful? She looks like a .-- .... --- .-. .
SPQR stands for SPEAQER which means employees of the emperor who work to deliver the emperor's words.
Why name the title in English but the video AND subs is in italian. Ffs
Grazi. Dio a sono. Italiano.
Hello everyone, along the Imperial forum in the center of Rome, I've found on the the statue of Julius Caesar, some information written on this statue. What's written is SPQR. What does SPQR mean? This isn't the first time I've seen this. In fact, if you were to walk through the streets of Rome, you'd find it everywhere (?). SPQR is a Latin acronym that stands for 'Senatus Populusque Romanus' which means (in Italian) the senate and people of Rome. I hope that with this small detail shows you something new (?), and in your next trip to discover Rome, you could enjoy it (?) with all your friends. Thanks and goodbye everyone. Until next time.
This is pretty much what she is saying in a nutshell. I don't speak Italian but I speak Spanish and this is from my understanding.
Spanish and Italian have nothing in common...
@D Anemon Of course, that's not because you speak Italian that u can speak Spanish.. By this way, I speak French, so I can speak Spanish (similar languages, latins), but it's not the case.
@D Anemon The com that I answered was about language... Read maybe...
@D Anemon Bro are u understand when I write? We were speaking of languages, Spanish and Italian haven't more in common than all latins languages between them...
sono pazzi questi romani

The Glory of Rome! When men were men, and women loved to be reminded of it. When being TRANS was short for transfixed (to a cross). When being GAY meant eating and partying nonstop and then throwing up to do it all over again. When being BISEXUAL meant.....-wait a minute! that one hasnt changed! indeed those Romans loved playing Leap-Frog.
Muito obrigado pelo vídeo. Gostei.
Today is the ides of. March😮
Roman Senate and people

Its like a gypsy language compared to Latin, greetings from Lithuania.
I'm Sorry but gypsies speak a languange of northern india that's not related with italian. Really i dont get your words.
Same thing for Lithuanian compared to Russian. At least the poorest gypsy in Italy earns more than the average Lithuanian.
Sink or swim, learn or don't
I don't speak no languagues
Without any translation I almost understood 100%. weird.

SPQR is French. It is what you are expected to do when formally invited to a wedding, gala, or any other hoity-toity event. You must do this in a timely manner (by the deadline stated on the invitation), and using the smaller card included therein -NEVER by email! It's just bad form. SPQR means "Send Promptly and Quickly a Response"
It all goes to show how much having an active High-Society life meant for ancient Romans. And that, my friends, is just one of the many things that set Rome apart from those uncouth Barbarians to the north, those savages who would later form what is nowadays known as Germany.

Thank you all for your comments, both nice and not so nice. I made it in Italian primarily for my students who were learning so they could have a chance to practice comprehension. I know our channel has been quite but for those of you who do not know, we are an IATA-accredited travel agency, focusing on authentic, off the beaten path experiences that preserve culture and tradition. Our primary focus has been Italy, where I'm from, but we have recently expanded to France and Costa Rica. Karin you look like a german girl.
