Juat a heads up, it's called "tear away" because that plastic lip sticking up gets pulled off after the mud sets. It's just there to make sure you don't get mud on whatever you are trimming to.
Thank you RO"K, I looked and looked for a demo showing all the inside and corner bead products and how to mud them. Your windows look very good to me. I'm a DIY grandmother with my doubters all around. That's why I watched your demo twice to be sure. Your video helped me a lot cause there were no others showing this.
Thanks Rosie! I am finishing up on a window having to repair just the top edge couldn't find anything on how to do windows this it's exactly what I needed. I was concentrating so hard on listening to you I didn't really notice background noise. I have a very busy house noise is normal. Thanks again.
your fabulous. thanks for the info. i have a home in palm springs ca and I could not figure out how the edges of the windows sills are so smooth. now i know how to finish thew new window in the guest room.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! Greatly appreciated for many if us DIYourselfers. Have a sunroom with 7 windows that need to be done, I will watch your video again when I get to that point.
Great video. Have you ever tried tearing away strip after mud cures to reduce white edge height? I am using dark color aluminum window frames and thought this would look better
When you are ordering windows, do you have to make sure they are for a smaller depth than you have? EG if you have 2x6 framing till window company 2x4, otherwise window would be right up to edge of drywall and you couldn't do it? Also I've been told I can't do drywall returns with windows that have wood on interior, why is that?
i didn't even notice the radio lol. love your tutorial i searched for ages to find how to do this. i have no building experience and no one to help me but im gonna follow along with your video and conquer this shit 😃 ✌
Hello, Do you prefer L-Metal corners vs the paper faced Corner beads? I always have heard that metal corners crack? I'm no drywaller but my contractor wants me to pick up the materials.and was not specific about what corners to get.
nice job. very very nice job! i like what you did and i totally agree that what you are doing is much more modern looking. nobody puts things on the window sill anymore anyways. your way is very clean looking. thanks for the video. i learned a lot!
Hey Rosie, I have these and hate them. They are 20 years old are so, and the cranks are problematic and the plaster now has a problem with cracking etc with moisture etc with the seasons. do you have this problem with yours? i now am having to decide if tile would remedy the condensation issue or wooden trim might help. Plaster or drywall is just not meant to expand around windows. I think this would be most effective in desert climate, but even then.....It is also difficult to keep clean. clean edge, collects a lot of dust.
Rosie !!! Vous avez des doigts en or !!! Vous savez tout faire !!!! You have the finguers in gold !!!! My English is very bad !!! But I like your videos ! OK ! Georges
OMG, I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR A LONG TIME, I COULDN'T EXPLAIN MYSELF TO MY HUSBAND AND THEN I SEE YOUR VIDEO IT WAS HEAVEN I WAS ABOUT TO MURDER HIM. THANK YOU,THANK YOU , THANK YOU.
Hi Rosie thanks for the video, I'm 90% sure this will be the look I will try to achieve for my place, the only thing I don't know is what did you do for the doors? the doors in your place are trimless as well right? , did you use the L tear away against the frame of the door? are they special doors? a video explanation of your doors is always appreciate :) THANKS in advance ;) keep up the great work!!
Thanks mac..I did L tearaway against the door frames too..I juste never tore away the strip...just butted it up against the door molding (the jamb) and stapled it down and mudded it over..you can pull away the strip...makes a cleaner look..I like the clean look..thanks so much!
Hi Steve..I prefer the L tearaway because it hugs the window glass so well..a really custom fit..cheers and good luck..these are the only windows I put in..you can watch my recently posted 5 year renovation vid to see what I did in the house..ua-cam.com/video/yuUrmkeUoeY/v-deo.html cheers
Rosie O'Kelly Thanks for replying so quickly Rosie, I haven't been able to find any L tear away in my little town but I will keep looking. Happy New Year!
Thanks for a very useful video. I appreciate how you demystified the whole process! It would have been nice to see the process through to the end... last coat, any texturing. I also agree that next time it would be great to keep the radio or TV off :)
Rosie, your lines are IMMACULATE. Thank you so much for this, my remodel is kickin my ass, and this video is exactly what I needed. :) Q: If I am doing tile around the kitchen window, would this L bead work as well?
Rosie What have you found yourself doing in the past in the way of furring out the wood around the windows to ensure that the same window reveal exists all the way around the windows? I have 4 big windows on a feature wall and absolutely Have to make sure all the corners line up with all the other windows. Thanks
Hey Mitch..use a 3 to 6 foot wide level or 2x4 mounted across the windows you want to align and use it as a guide..You can shim under sheetrock to bring it all up to the same plane and also check for level and square. Just move the long level around and check to low or high spots...hope this helps as this is an excellent look..cheers
Hey Rosie....great video. I live in CA and am redoing the drywall in a bedroom.... I have 5/8" on the walls, should I use a thinner drywall on the inside of the window frame? I couldn't tell the thickness of your drywall. I'm definitely going to call around for the L-tear away this weekend...looks great with the strip left on.
What is the name of the plastic that you butt up against the window itself on the inside. I looked for that at Home Depot but they didn't have anything like that - and I didn't know what to ask for. Let me know please. Regards, Dale
It looks like he's using a vinyl L tear away strip. Part of it tears away to give you a clean look after painting? It looks like they only sell it in bulk and online at Home Depot www.homedepot.com/p/Phillips-Manufacturing-Company-8-ft-x-1-2-in-Vinyl-L-Tear-Strip-50-Pack-TS5VYL/202035406 Home Depot does sell a non tear away type of L mould corner bead in the store though. www.homedepot.com/p/Clark-Dietrich-10-ft-PVC-L-Mould-Corner-Bead-12VINL10H/202848954

Nice work! You obviously care a lot about what you do, and enjoy sharing your knowledge and experience with others.
Love the trim, hope to replicate this for my house
Great video. Have you ever tried tearing away strip after mud cures to reduce white edge height? I am using dark color aluminum window frames and thought this would look better
That looks killer. could I caulk it instead of using the plastic?
Great video - thanks. This is exactly what I was looking for.
wow! I love your place rosie!

I love seeing someone who is true to themselves! You were born to be Rosie! Thanks for the drywall tips!
Great tutorial video.I really appreciated.
Thanks so much, Olga!
this is a very instructive video. one question, does it have to be L tear away, can I use standard L bead instead?

Thanks Rosie.. It has also been suggested to me that I use a wood sill.. Agree? Disagree? Cheers from Vancouver Island.
Liked your instructions, but please turn the television or radio down very confusing.

+Roddy Da It makes a nice finish and it's easy to do..any drywall supply house has it for sure...good luck Roddy!
+Rosie O'Kelly what about the thickness for inside the window frame. Did you use 5/8" drywall for both the wall and window frame?
Hi Rosie, I heard you say that in the final coat you put a little mortar in the mud? Can you explain? Thank you
Sorry Paul..I thin down the mud with a bit more water so it spreads very smoothly and self levels. Thanks for watching!
Ahaaa, mortar...water, say it fast enough it all sounds the same ;-)
Maybe switch the radio of when you recording - that would really help the quality of your video. just saying
+Joerg Hilger yes, great suggestion....I have to remember those things..

Hi Rosie
Where did you buy the L tear away strip. I went to Home Depot and lowes today and they don't have it.
Thanks
Henry buy the L tearaway at a drywall supply company...cheers!
Hi thanks!
Nothing like skills.
Great job agree better without radio but nevertheless well done and thank you for posting this. ps nice dog
Trim costs a lot of money, this a great way to save some money and still achieve a great outcome
Rosie you sure know how to use a trowel. Looks too hard for me I would throw in the towel.
nice
My works too. Used woodprix handbooks and build it with no problems.
what shade of lipstick your wearing
Are you saying "L Tear Away?"

Best to NOT have your TV blasting in the background when making a tutorial vid. Beyond distracting.
not bad for an amateur.
