- One of the most exciting events at Horse Plus Humane Society is adoption events, and this one was no different. 26 adoptions over 4 days made this event very special, not only for the horses that were adopted into amazing homes, but for the visitors and staff at Horse Plus Humane Society. In defense of the little girl. At age 12, I was less than 5 foot. At age 16 I grew to be 5' 11". I Did keep my 14.2 Hand half Arab mare until I went to University at age 19. But I didn't care if my legs hung low on Moon. SHE WAS A SPECIAL GIRL.
My mom had a D1 barrel racer named Dolly. She was an amazing horse, lived to be 37
You guys do incredible work. Thank you. But please, some of those adopters need draft horses under them. Weight does make a difference on a horse's back.

I do appreciate all the hard work you and your team of volonteers invest for the purpose of rescuing these horses. I have owned a few horses in my life not only for the pleasure of riding but mostly for the LOVE of horses. I am glad your ADOPTION DAY was a success, BUT my one concern is that sometimes the SIZE of the horse does not FIT with the SIZE of the future OWNER....!

I such a softie. These horses that you have brought back to such good health are beautiful. Then they are adopted. You guys must cry when you see them go. I just pray their life will be happy.

Omg I can't believe you had a beautiful horse called Lightfoot. My very first horse was called Lightfoot. I bought him when I was 15 years old in 1985 and he was my best friend for 25 years ❤️❤️❤️
The weight issue is a big concern some of these applicants are really heavy in relation to the horses presented to them.. a worry.
I absolutely love what they're doing and that these horses are getting new homes. But, and I say this knowing I'll probably get a lot of hate. A few of these people are too big for the horses they're adopting. And I'm not body shaming they're not big people, I would be too big for some of the horses as well. You (and your tack) shouldn't weigh more than 20% of your horses' body weight. Just get a horse that can carry you without damaging it's back. Just because horses are big animals doesn't mean they're super strong. Just saying this to educate, I'm sure they're all lovely people wanting to give these horses good homes. And positive they're getting lots of love from their new families.

also, horses aren‘t so much built for carrying as they are for pulling. They‘d have no problem pulling something very heavy, but with carrying the 20% really is the limit, and that‘s for a well muscled and conditioned horse with a good conformation! I think it would be a good idea to have the vet estimate a healthy rider+saddle limit when they evaluate the horses. That‘s what the British rescue World Horse Welfare does.

My first equine was a 10hand 2 inch Welsh gelding. I named him " Prince ", original name " Hoppy". He explains why I like the album " Bat out of Hell"!
I loved that you saving these babies .I have even donated but I am really concerned how you match up the adopters to the right horse . In some of your video s I see people to heavy riding the horses and the we girl allowed to adopt a horse far too big for her . Why??? This makes me feel uncomfortable seeing them being matched up this way especially after what these poor babies have been through.

I have discovered this channel a bit late but I do hope they adress our concerns in the next episodes/seasons.
Years ago, I lived in a smaller community and had the same name as another woman. Our dental, medical and other appointments and files were always getting mixed up. Never actually met her but I couldn't imagine if she was some kind of thief sharing the same name. Thanks for all the great work you do!

My parents bought my younger brother a pinto gelding from a cattle ranch. I'm sure he was at least 20yrs old . BUDDY was truly a " Buddy". Spade trained ( no you didn't pull the reins, you lifted them and shifted your weight) BUDDY wasn't even my horse, but I adored him.

I think that a lot with these videos. They don’t seem to follow the rule of a horse carrying max.10-15% of their bodyweight. This will cause back and joint issues and is painful for the horses.

I don't mean to be rude and I am not a 'horse' person, but is the weight of some of these people going to be an issue for the horses?
Yes. The ideal weight for a rider to be is 20% of how much the horse they will be riding weighs. If the rider exceeds that, it can be damaging to the horses back and joints.
Your not even a horse person and you can see that . Why can't they .makes me wonder if they just need to get rid of them after a while so it looks good on paper that they are very successful in rescuing and adopting as many horses as possible.

I feel like every horse would have a place with you! And I would just look at them for their freedom and their instinctive behavior.
There is absolutely no doubt that you do good much needed rescue work but could you please address for your subscribers your stance on the weight issue. I am not a horse person but was thinking about going for a riding experience and a weight limit was clearly mentioned. I am not light but would have met the criteria however some of these people would have been turned away. I am from the UK by the way.

I am no rider, but i also see that some of the peolpe are to heavy for the horses. I hope they have other family members to ride the horses. The saddle is not ideal, riders are sitting more in the middle of the back than close to the shoulders of the horse. But I love you for rescuing horses, you are doing your best!

Great job and your staff are some of the best i have seen on here they really do a good job with the horses and very good with the people that are adopting
So lovely that your horses got adopted. A bit worried that some of the new riders had very little riding experience. Do you check that they have someone in the family to help?
I don’t believe they do though I could be wrong I just believe they think they have a trainer to help.
I do not think that it is their place to check if people have any experience or not. Any horse lover has to start somewhere.
I am concerned too, but it is surley not easy to judge who is fitting for the horse.
@@sannawald824 Well, some horses ( like our old Buddy), you could put a new beginner on him...he would plod. Put and an expert on him? Holy!. Buddy was a former OTT Paint QH. Also a former cow horse. What a treasure!.

I think it's great that you're rescuing these poor horses from auctions. The medical care and rehabilitation is excellent but I have to make two adverse comments I'm afraid. Many of these horses are very mismatched to their new riders. Overweight (there were lots that were way too bid for their chosen horse) and inexperienced riders are not going to do these poor animals any favours and may lead them to being back in the same situation down the line.
The 2nd point is, by giving a donation only, must mean that you will get many people who are just looking for a very cheap horse. They may not have the means to look after them properly, especially during the harder months. If they can't afford a decent set figure, they can't afford to have a horse. Horses are expensive if cared for right.
That is one of the reasons I do not have a horse right now. If you cannot afford it no matter what, you don't have one.
I absolutely agree that many of these people that adopt are much too large for these horses that have been skin and bones and out of shape. Anyone weighing over 230 lb should not be on a horse. I appreciate what you guys are doing also in helping these horses, but I believe that too much weight on a horse is also abuse.
And if they charge a higher adoption fee, they will be accused of trying to make a profit. Rescue is a thankless endeavor.
I adopted a Standardbred for $500 and had him 23+ yrs. I got him from a rescue bc I wanted to save a horse not bc I wanted a cheap horse.
Christ ppl always have something to complain about. You think these horses are being rode 24hrs a day by overweight ppl?no. I have a feeling a lot of them are for pasture only they still do a ride test. Im pretty sure they would say no if it was someone morbidly obese. Lots are adopted for treatment horses..like therapy horses.

It's literally 4am & I'm binge watching videos about horses. Ctfu! I'm a city girl that knows absolutely nothing about horses. I went riding with a friend as a pre teen. They're majestic creatures! I'm so glad I've found you guys. I'm looking forward to watching more & learning more about horses. The first video I saw was about you guys at auction. It seriously broke my heart into pieces. Their plight was absolutely terrible! You're all seriously amazing for doing everything that you do to help these unlucky horses. I'm hoping they all manage to find the forever homes they'd always deserved!

the people are too heavy for the tiny frail horses....the saddle alone is very heavy....
I know. They were just starved a short time ago. I do not see that many of these horses were a match to the adopters.
Ideal weight for a horse is 15% of its body weight. MAtching people with prospects NEED careful match-ups.

hi! so,i appreciate the fact that you want to find homes for this horses,but,for exemple,the girl how bought chilli is too big for her,like,you can see chilli trying so hard to walk normal,you can see her dragging her feet. that girl is too big and heavy for chilli!

Thank you for all that you do. It brings me such joy to see these starving, injured, desprate horses in the slaughter pipeline being given a second chance to live a happy life. And what an amazing difference in their body condition, from all your hard work, when they go on to their new forever homes. Horse Plus Humane Society, you make my heart sing.
Every horse needs a little girl to love it sometime in its life.
Such great work undermined by a total lack of education on the weight these poor horses can carry. A little on the heavy side isnt the end of the world but that one horse could barely move under the weight of that big heavy rider 💔 gutted.
The lady that got chilli was way too big, why would you let her adopt him?

cause this ways the lady is rescuing, if they told her no she would most likely get defensive and buy private. Might even cause a public backlash even if they are being scientifically correct.

Being tall isn't an issue. Weight is the issue. OK, I probably looked ridiculous at full height on myv14.2H mare. But my weight was less than 135lbs and who cares if you're not " picture perfect"?

And it doesn't take away from the fact that overweight people should get a horse that suits their physique.

After rehabilitating these horses, I am sure there are feelings for them. You can see it on the girls faces as they load these horses and say goodbye. I am sitting here, fighting off the onion ninjas. I guess the reward is worth the feelings. I would be a mess. Thanks for what ya'll do.

Some of these new owners are not matched up to the horse properly They either are to heavey or to small etc....I pray everything will be alright for these former abused horses...I just hate for them to have to endure or go through anymore trauma ... You girls are awesome. I usually hate to watch channels like that, because as a horse lover they sadden me a lot and also make me very angry towards people who abuse animals with impunity.

If a person didn't reach up or want to stroke the horse from the very first minute they laid eyes on it, I would not let that person adopt the horse.

You guy's do amazing work. However, I do agree that some of the people are mismatched for their horse. A person should not weigh more then 20% of the weight of their horse, for the health of the horses back. So a 230lb person should ride a horse that is roughly 1200lb. Plus length of leg counts too for clear aids, but the weight is the most problematic thing.
That said, you can have a rider that is a little heavier but is a skilled rider and rides light. In contrast you can have a light rider that is not skilled and bounces and flops on the horse making it hard on the horse. In some of these cases, it worries me that the riders are not only very very heavy but not skilled riders either. Hope it all works out for the horses, they have been through so much already.

The horse #22 looked just like a horse we had at my stables growing up, he had the same gait, built and half a tail the only thing different was that our horse was completely black and his name was Orlando!! Support from Sweden 🇸🇪

For sure there is no shortage of people who are cruel, and continue to embark on more ways to get away with it, but it sure makes it hard for you folks to get them into good homes after they recover from bad treatment…God has not answered my question about this, and I know why Tawne cries and I am with her!!….it really bothers me as I suffer from depression in spite of medication!!….wish I could win the lottery and get a property where I could have a few, and take good care od them…thanks for your hard work….love the blind ones too,!!

I love that they screen adopters……5 stars! All enclosed shows though… what about open fields?
Anyone pulling a horse trailer with a Jeep should be denied . Also as much as I love that they rescue these horses from the kill pen ( I have rescued many from the kill pen myself) am I the only one that is questioning if 75% of these adopters are even qualified ?? By the video it doesn’t appear that way at all!!

Kelsey Stanley no, as someone who runs a Jeep dealership and drives a Jeep I am aware that the wheelbase is too short to safely tow a trailer. One big move from the horse on the highway and you’re entire trailer and SUV can roll ... It’s purely just dangerous.
