Thanks for sharing this dude. This is something that a lot of folks in the UK dont talk enough about. Went through my own 'moment' a few years ago and speaking to a pro was worth it. Solid video Ed!

Thanks mate, really kind of you. Definitely an under-spoken topic even if awareness has improved slightly. I'm pleased that you managed to remedy your experience with some help. Have a fab Sunday and thank you again.

Thanks for opening up a bit man and sharing. I have noticed the intros in the past and always thought highly of you for doing it because so many people do struggle and it's sad that so few get the help they deserve. I'm glad that the therapist was able to help you to work through some of your metal stuggles, therapy can make a world of difference. I always throughly enjoy your videos and this one did hit home especially. I haven't talked much of it on the channel or elsewhere, but I've had my bouts in therapy and it can truly make the difference of night and day. Keep up the great content and thanks for bringing more awareness. Enjoy the weekend!

Thanks for the update, and for talking about mental health and the importance of getting help before things become overwhelming.
Many of us suffer with poor mental health and it's something that we often don't admit to until the situation is incredibly dire.
    Stay groovy dude 🙏👍

Well done on opening up and speaking about the important topic of mental health. I've made no secret about the issues I've had over the years and my mental health, especially aournd dealing with my Crohns disease and the impact it has on my life. I do take medication for it, but also get the oppourtunity to speak to someone in hospital when I have my extended stays. The whole retro hobby for me was started on the back end of dealing with some major issues back in 2022.
The Spain trip sounded awesome. I can't start collecting DVD's / Blu rays I will be evicted!! although I could easily start old vinyl records to be fair

Cheers mate; I really have admired your transparency and openess and wouldn't/can't compare to some of the challenges you so admirably face. You've arguably a tonne of friends as well as the professionals to talk to but regardless if you ever want to chat just shout :0).
Mate, it was awesome. Need to get a vid done on it.
Haha, now I'd love to regather some Vinny Vinyl :0).
Take care and again, big thanks. Have a nice Easter.

Enjoyed listening to this while I cleaned up PS2 games this afternoon. Yes, you talk a lot of sense, us blokes don't like spilling what's going on inside us. I think you deserve a big hug for recognising your situation and actually doing something about it. Not many of us would feel able to take that difficult step, and talking about it on your channel is even braver. I think when you get to our age we've all lost people, and especially when it's your close friend, it kind of skews the perspective you have of your own life. I'm sure we've all glugged down a pint of 'what's the point' over the years. It's finding that ability to shift focus away from yourself, maybe onto your family or your work. I'm all for 'fresh starts', I listen in awe to these people who throw away their career and start again as a farmer in the Scottish highlands or something. I tend to think how ever bad it gets, there's always time for fresh start. We'll have to meet up one of these days Ed!!

    • @RetroEdUK
      @RetroEdUK  6 місяців тому

Thanks Jace. A lovely comment so thank you my friend. I couldn't agree more; those life events really make you reflect on things differently including one's priorities. Tends to be hardest when life attacks several points at once e.g. personal, work, family. I felt it would remiss not to mention something albeit I'll now be back on the retro track.
I'd struggle for a fresh start involving much renovation or farming haha. That said I do aspire to living somewhere more rural later in life and dare I say it escape the Essex concrete jungle ;0)
I'd blooming love that Jace. Was gutted I missed you at Black Country.
All the best, and thanks again.

Great to hear you talk freely Ed a weight off your shoulders always worth sharing your concerns and troubles no matter how big or small. I’m glad you found a consellor who could help, I had a session on the NHS and it was a complete waste of time it took all my faith away from humanity at how incredible uncompasionate the lady on the other end of the phone was, so generic it was useless but then I found a fantastic private counsellor who was just so helpful and so understanding he truly changed my sight on the world and my self. I’m glad you found someone suitable as like you say one person might not work for another, if you don’t feel help taking to someone try talking to another. As we are from the same area I did wonder if it was the same shrink but I checked your description and he’s called Simon but mine was called Duncan so I guess we are lucky to have two quality counsellors to go by. I feel incredibly selfish as you always asked how I was but I never thought to ask how you were doing. I’m glad you are feeling better. Don’t ever stop doing it , your know when it’s time to stop having sessions and don’t feel afraid to go back once things are right and you start to dip again into that dark place, that’s been my downfall. Big love to you Ed ❤ il see you soon , keep making videos and look after your lovely family and that beautiful wife of yours ❤

As for your mental health - I get that totally. Over the last few years, I had some crap health situations and I talked about it on Facebook, detailing what was going on as I thought it may help someone who was going through the same thing. Keep your chin up! All the best!

I think we all have our demons, myself included.
I’ve dealt with some stuff over the last few years, but have managed to get it right under control to the point that I don’t know how I let it consume so much of my life.
It’s not related to the above and certainly wasn’t a part of my recovery process, but the whole health tip I’m on right now is giving me a new lease of life. Where I’m in the best shape of my life and getting out there more and trying new things to test me physically.

i can relate to this video so much and one of the reasons i began making content was as a form of release for myself and to take my mind off the outside world

Cheers Eddie :0). I was in 2 minds to cover it off as it's obv a retro channel but having had a few folk approach me I thought it needed saying.
Hell yeah, meeting folk and the social stuff has been and continues to be the leading highlight for me.
The event was great; I was lucky being with my mate as my Spanish was shocking. Unsure I would have proactively gone without that. That said, it wasn't like most events in the UK; a lot more informal and due to the scope, the directors / actors / artists etc were worldwide (quite often they didn't speak Spanish hence my mate was translating which meant they gravitating to us in order to have some friendly banter).
Have a fab time at Revival. It clashes with a Smashing Pumpkins / Weezer gig. I've always wanted to see both particularly the Pumpkins so was all over tickets. Hopefully they'll be a Revival Revival haha in the future as they sound like amazing events and, based on location, will draw in loads of people.
Completely understand on Nottingham; a few folk have said the same. Gonna go for the Saturday though.

Thanks for sharing that Ed. You're right, we to tend to shy away from these topics but mental health does affect us all, admittedly to varying degrees. Well done for reaching out as well, especially as you were so cynical beforehand. I've not yet watched or read any reviews on the new Ghostbusters movie and yeah, it perhaps doesn't bode too well that you say it's getting a lot of stick...but what I've learned over the years - recent ones especially - is that I've lost count the amount of times people have crucified a movie, a game or an album...yet I've actually quite liked it lol So yeah, I like to hear what people have to say but it's always best we check something out for ourselves :)

So glad you brought up Mental health, I think it's a Is difficult thing for men of our generation To talk about or even admit they suffer from it, Also So many go through it without anybody know about it as they present themselves as perfectly happy and normal When around Other people and don't get the help they need, I think you're very brave To share this with us , I'm not sure If I could share such things on UA-cam, I don't even show my face here 😂
Glad to hear you enjoyed the horror festival And I recommend you check out the new Ghostbusters movie, I really enjoyed it, It's just as good as after life And maybe even a little better, It's not necessarily what you have to see in the cinema though
You're right it's great to see Scotty back on the tubes, I went to check out his channel couple of weeks ago and all of the videos had disappeared And he had apparently left all of the social platforms, I had to ask somebody to reach out to you Just to make sure he was OK And you were very quick to respond which was great, Soon after his videos reappeared back on the channel And you're right the last video was fantastic.
Like yourself I watch a lot of UA-cam And you're absolutely right it's almost impossible to find small new channels On things you have interested in, 99% of the small channels I watch I've discovered through shoutouts And the other 1% Through somebody discovering my channel and leaving an awesome comment Or I've seen a great comment on somebody else's channel that makes me want to check the person out.
We really do have a great little community Here Full of people with common interests from all around the world Add although I've Met none of them in person I consider most my friends.

It's great that folk look out for each other in this community and I'm over the moon that Scotty has returned (another vid today in fact!)
YT makes it a bugger to locate channels doesn't it. Down to us to remedy it via sharing others' vids.
I'd never have expected to have made mates from YT and in fact didn't realise the interactions would be reciprocal. Simply thought I'd upload a vid and then more on haha. I'm chuffed at how wrong I was. Hope you manage to make it back to the UK at some point as loads of folk would love to meet you.
Again a huge thanks. Wishing you and the family a mega awesome Easter weekend Marc.

Fair play for opening up matey.. not something a lot of people do enough and likewise I'm guilty of bottling up things myself and dealing with stuff in my head.. not something that works well the majority of the time sadly so fair play for chatting about it all and trying to raise some awreness.. 😎👍

I've suffered with my mental health over the year's. I have had really bad OCD since childhood, that has affected me really quite badly in parts. I couldn't leave the house at one point because of it. I had heightened anxiety too. That kinda goes hand in hand with the OCD.
Tried all kinds of therapy and medication, but it doesn't really help.
I still see a mental health nurse every 2 months, but it doesn't do much.
I've just had to learn to live with it the best i can.
I wish you good look, buddy. It's an ongoing fight as you know.
We just have to try and deal with it the best we can, eh.👊

I want to start going to a few of those horror conversations, and such like.
I'd love to meet the stars of the nightmare on elm Street films.
Same goes for aliens and the terminator.
I always wanted to meet Catherine mary Stewart from night of the comet and the last starfighter.
Have you seen those two films?
In a few months I'm going to buy the nike vandal that john connor wore in the terminator. I want Michael biehn to sign them.
I know he goes to conventions in the uk.

Thanks mate, I've very grateful for the comment and for your transparency on your own experience. Definitely agree in terms of the ongoing fight, but hopefully we each can find a strategy that eases some of the pain even if it doesn't quash it completely. Thanks, and likewise I wish you good luck buddy.

Mate, go for it!!! I had a blast at the Spanish one and even things like Film / Comic-cons bring some enjoyment. On the topic of Aliens I've blasted through Alien 3 through to Covenant this past week. Ruddy loved it, even Prometheus which can get a raw deal.
I haven't seen either! I'm sure Sega Zombie was throwing loads of praise at the last straighter and, I may be wrong, but it was getting difficult to grab a physical release. I'll have to look into it!
Woah that would be some prized memorabilia :0).

@@RetroEdUK yeah, it's definitely hard to deal with, eh.
I very recently found out that my ex fiance killed herself back in 2018.
She'd got ill and it was affecting her physically. It was also draining her emotionally and so she decided to take her own life.
I'm absolutely heartbroken by the news. Poor girl. I wish she had have reached out to her friends and family. She must've been in a right state to want to end her life.
She was doing great things in the world too. She was a humanitarian and had been working in Liberia teaching midwifery when she first was diagnosed with whatever illness she had.
      It's hit me hard.
I've been with my wife for 13 year's and I love her dearly, but this news about helen has stirred up feelings I thought were long gone.
Makes you question what life is all about, eh.
