Good Lord you are bringing back old memories. Miss my old Radio Shack down on Commonwealth avenue in Boston, when the clerks in the store could speak BFO language Glow in the dark. Could never fool my Mom late at night. She saw the glowand knew I was short wave listening.
I just received one of these today for $200 dollars.....haven't even plugged it in yet....I purchased it from the son of a SK who had to clean out the house so it could be sold..... Looking forward to firing it up soon... Thanks for the Video...
Hey Tom, Isure wish you were my neighbor. You have to be amongst the best of the old timey radio elmers out there. You deserve a medal for such. Be well.
Great rig and video! I loved it, and I love the "glow in the dark" tube rigs. You can't do much better than Collins. Take care es 73, John KU4JZ ps...love the old Hallicrafters speakers too
Your old fashion like me and all I can say these kind of radios have CHARACTER and I hope they will be around after you and I are pushing up daisies, at least they can be repaired! 73s
+hamrad88 Yes, it's the good ole tube sound and no hissy sound which is prevalent on solid state equipment besides, in the Winter the radio can help heat your shack!
Ha Ha, Tom I saw that S-Meter sitting fullscale and like a lot of the older Ham gear if the RF Gain is turned back the meter will deflect upwards and I figured you would catch it.
Tom, your ability to review and comment on modern SWR receivers is no doubt enhanced by comparing them against your Collins. Any tips on tuning in ssb on a hammurland hq129x? I have tried with the bfo and narrowing the crystal filter and can't seem to get it clear, or is it just not possible? Curious as to why you are no longer active on the bands yourself? 73, Tom
+Tom k2bew The thing I do when tuning SSB on these old radios is to continue to use the tuning knob along with the bfo knob. I got out of the amateur radio hobby when I was into to fishing. Got rid of most of my transceiver except for my little ICOM 706. Now that I am too old to do much fishing, I back into radios.
+Palosrob .MaKaElectric Rebuttal Channel Thanks. At their peak, they were selling for over $1500. Another friend sold his collection off for a small fortune about 15 years ago.

Excellent, I love seeing vintage equipment in as original condition.
Did the military use this unit as well ?
+watershed44 I don't think so since this was only for ham bands.

+Dennis Petersen At might age, all I can catch is a cold. :)
