    Thanks for walking thru all brilliance of the song, conception, and great performances! While completely different , the tune “Love Hangover” comes to my mind as well. It’s Diana Ross from 1975.

    Really wish more people/bands would do this. I mean look at the views on the one Dayglow did people go nuts for it. Would like to see Ginger Root in particular do a few.

    Such a beautiful song and amazing low end balance as usual. I had a question about the finalization process. What do you usually have on your master bus and do you aim to give the mastering engineer 6db of headroom? If so, do you reference mix to other songs by turning them down in a session or not at all?
    Thanks again for doing these videos, that MCI looks 🔥

    • @SamEvian
      @SamEvian  Рік тому +5

      thanks charles! yep generally i try and leave as much headroom as possible..it’s not always 6..sometimes more like 3…just depends on how the mix comes together. i have different master bus processors that i lean on, and my favor shifts every six months or so haha…for most of TTM i was using fatso senior on the two bus, just barely kissing it. i always use my elysian x filter stereo eq and then some form of ms processing- these days i’m favoring the plug in alliance eqs like knif for ms…but honestly the goodhertz midside is a classic at this point.
      i don’t do any referencing while i’m mixing..i find it distracting, and every song is different. i have a pretty good feel for my room and speakers at this point, so i just lean in to that relationship…then i take the mix to the car and if it doesn’t translate it’s usually pretty clear what the issue is.
      happy trails!

      @@SamEvian Thankyou so much man. It’s great hearing your perspective on the 2 bus and how you like to hand off mixes to the Mastering Engineer. I know you’re a busy person, so I appreciate you doing these and responding to me!

    “Throwing shade at steely Dan lately” 😂
    I think my recipe for the best bands of today is half the band loves steely Dan and half the band hates steely Dan. Loved this video. Drum machine-> delay->varispeed 🤯

    amazing breakdown! so is the verb and wash on the vocal all coming from the instrument double part behind it?

    • @SamEvian
      @SamEvian  Рік тому

      thanks! yes i think there’s a light plate on the vocal but most of the wash is from the instrumental part doubling the melody like you said!
