I was in a back highway in the Philippines once, and I heard a really deep but high revving rumble creeping up for behind us while at a stop light. I’ve only ever seen SuperFours in pictures before but I immediately assumed correctly that I was about to see a SuperFour.
There i was witnessing the absolutely douchy yet excusable loud exhaust of this wonderful 400cc bike carrying a 160-200 kilo man, who was physically bigger than the bike, all the way to 120Kmh before we could even make it up 50 in our family MPV

we got 400 fours here. honda cb-1, yamaha fzr400, and suzuki bandit 400. cb-1 had gear driven cams and a 13750 redline. the super four you rode here was the replacement for the cb-1. we never got that one as the cb-1 never sold well and only lasted two years, 89-90. the super four was styled after the cb1000 where the cb-1 had its own style.

Thanks for pointing this out. As a former Bandit 400 owner, I'm constantly reminding people that there was a brief shinning moment when the US was able to get adorable and practical sporty bikes that weren't designed as falic representations.

Just realized a small error, Honda made the CB400F NC27 in 1989 with a four cylinder, not 1991. There was an entire model generation or two before this bike. In fact, it was even brought to the us in 1989/1990 as the Honda CB-1.

Yeah but... but... what about the 1989 - 1990 Honda CB-1 (400FT) and the Honda Hawk GT 650 of the same era with trick single side rear swing arm as standard?
They WERE brought to the states it's just that when Honda tries to sell you a CB-1 (even one that revs to 13K rpm and has gear driven cams) for $4K+ at the dealership and the Honda 600 'Hurricane' F1 was just under 6K most people just bought up.
This has always pretty much been a two bike country: one engine under 1 liter and one engine at or above. There never seemed to be a large enough demographic to fill out the sub-liter categories much more than the 600 or 750s, which is a shame because the CB-1 was an excellent bike, small, flickable, light and my first ever.

I thought the exact same thing until I got one. It's a fast, fun little bike but the gearing is insanely low (3000 RPM at 30 mph), and the seating position is pretty uncomfortable for trips longer than 20 minutes. If you want a similar bike, I imagine any old 600cc sport bike would be better.

The VTEC systen used on this bike is basically what they used on the VTEC Honda Fit/Jazz that you had. Both engines go from 2 valve to 4 valve per cylinder when VEC is activated. There is even a Motorcycle/Scooter that uses an engine based on exactly the same engine as the Fit/Jazz but with 2 less cylinders, the Honda NC700D Integra which is a cool maxi scooter with a dual clutch transmission and half a Fit engine that was made to run not completely smooth to give it more feel.

Actually, America did get a 400cc inline 4, I owned one until last year when I sold it to a new rider. You can see it on my channel if you're interested- it was a Bandit 400, only imported a couple of years because they didn't sell well. I just acquired a Honda 919, because I like naked styling...but as pretty as my 919 is the Bandit 400 with it's trellis frame was still yet prettier and preceded the Ducati Monster by 2 years.

Prices are high for learner bikes in NZ and Australia and the UK and generally anywhere that has hard and fast rules about what you can ride while you're learning, thus more buyers every year, same number of 'good' learner bikes = high price. Benefit is you won't lose a cent on the bike so you can easily trade up to something good later.

Even in the USA that bike would be sick for a really fun and sporty beginner bike, much like the Kawasaki EX500 or CBR500. Enough power to merge with freeway traffic, enough power to sustain 80+ mph no problem. But unlike those other boring beginner bikes this one revs to 12,000 rpm ;) Good for girls and smaller riders too.

In the ‘70s Honda sold a 400cc SOHC 4 cylinder CB that had an exhaust header that was a work of art. I longed for that little gem but all my money went to diapers, groceries and new shoes for 5 kids. As for lane splitting, that’s an incredibly bad idea. On a bike or in a car, the lane I’m in is all mine. I share it with no one. Want to get where you’re going faster? Leave earlier. If you get hit, who’s paying the damages?

I was wondering if you were going to Motorcycle in New Zealand!
Also there's an anime called Bakuon about girls and motorcycles and the main character drives one of these!

Man, this video made me really want to get a motorcycle. And live in a real developed country.

I'll get one of these as my first bike and I'll keep it until I can't ride anymore. It's not A2 legal but I don't care.
