  • Taking a look at the Ed Brown FX-2 and discussing what makes it stand out among the crowd of high-end 1911s.
Spoiler Alert: This is the first 1911 that's designed around the full integration of an RMRcc... and it does so flawlessly.

With a nice little price tag of 4k

Unfortunately, the finer things in life tend to come at a steep price. That said, better $4k on this than spending more than double on a lesser pistol with some gimmicky BS, like every TTI pistol from a John Wick movie for example 😂.

Interesting. Maybe that’s a change. Wonder why they sell the Evo with a vortex rmr. No way I’m buying an Ed brown and slapping a vortex on it. I am going to email customer service

@@marku123 From EB - "No, an optic is not available as a retro option as the slide is designed differently to accommodate the optic - a new slide is required. The slide cut is for the Vortex, but there are other optics compatible with that footprint." The RMRcc doesn/t fit the vortex just FYI

I have a Kobra Carry with a RMRcc slide cut which, cosmetics aside, is this pistol. Best pistol I have ever owned and I love the RMRcc and co-witness setup. I have yet to experience a single failure.
The only thing this review misses is the best part, shooting it.
I do carry mine and I agree the RMRcc is unnoticed IWB. Ed Brown isn’t the marketing machine some of its competitors are. That’s probably why this pistol doesn’t receive more attention.

    • @EchoDelta2A

Well said. Yeah, I definitely feel like Ed Brown is low key and doesn't like the added attention, but I can respect that. Not every artist cares to promote their work, but yes - shooting it is phenomenal as well! It's smooth, it's reliable, and robust. I love it, and I'm glad to hear you're still carrying yours!

@@EchoDelta2A You did a good job of pointing out how this pistol and the optic is more of a marriage from the start and not an afterthought. Wilson and Nighthawk don't offer this to my knowledge. I see their pretty pistols with adaptor plates and big optics hanging over the sides or sitting way up high and it just doesn't look as good to me as this setup and it doesnt sit as low in the slide. Also the RDS being the first sight makes sense.
I went to a red dot because my eyes made me do it, I could no longer see irons without glasses. The Red dot allows me to shoot accurately without glasses or contacts. If I could change one thing, it would be a Trijicon thing, and that would be to add the ACSS Vulcan reticle. This allows the inexperienced to acquire the dot much faster. I have shot it enough now, and practiced presenting it at home enough, to where i pretty much have the presentation down to where the dot it always "there." The co-witness sights do help, and they would help even more if I could see them better without glasses😉 One last thing, I prefer the snakeskin grip to any 25,30 LPI that I have ever held.

lessening the sight radius is a deal killer for me; it reminds me of the old Detonics .45 from years ago. I have the Identical pistol made by Night Hawk but with more options; suck as Trijicon HD sights, High cut under trigger, dehorned , DLC coating etc, optics cut, bobbed frame , emblem and writing left off the slide , and in .45

    • @EchoDelta2A
      @EchoDelta2A  Рік тому +2

Sounds like a phenomenal setup you've got there. I can understand your logic about the sight radius. That said, the backups are setup as exactly that... Backups. The sights are completely centered around the RMRcc. The irons are there to compliment the optic, not the other way around. I personally love the reverse of the usual sandwich setup. Makes a world of difference if you value optics on pistols as much as I do.

I have an Ed Brown Kobra Carry in 45 ACP, and it was having ejection problems( after 6000 rounds). Wade Brown, Ed's son, called me, and we spent 30 minutes on the phone bird dogging the problem. My gun is ten years old. The result was Wade went ahead and basically replaced just about every internal part, so my pistol matches current Kobra Carrys being manufactured. He replaced all the cast parts with modern forged parts. He determined that the ejector was the problem, so I got a brand new fitted forged ejector. The gun now performs flawlessly.
BTW my favorite gun shop loves dealing with Ed Brown since they usually interact with Ed's daughter. I have heard Ed can be a bit of a grump, but his kids who are continuing the 1911 family tradition are wonderful to work with.

Popped in my feed. I looked at this model hard. Got into Red Dots when they were only Red. I talked with Ed Brown about the implementation. What FOR Me is a turn off is Ed Brown has hitched his wagon to this model Trijicon in their universe. The options, Correct me if I've got this wrong. Wilson offers a True Co Witness, Nighthawk has their system(The most expensive) with plates. I'm still not clear if Nighthawk is True or 1/3 co witness. I don't believe Les Baer has an offering. Then there is the rest of the world. To me, What happened to direct mill and making a choice? Its available. I applaud Ed Brown for the idea. It seems a little late to me. I picked up a Kobra Carry. In reality, A defensive scenario is not likely going to occur starting at 25 yards and out. It could but most are up close and personal. This shows the strength and the weakness of a Red Dot. The new polymer from Springfield shows some real innovation, too bad they had to bring it out. As a carry piece the Ed Brown products are very solid and have that "This is it and its all you need" statement. I really will be looking for the right company to mill the Kobra. I'm not in a big hurry though.

The red dot, especially at standard sight level on a quick draw, is a game changer. Vortex has a pretty high end, high tech, simulator. Went through a couple courses in 360 degree simulators with very realistic emergency situations. Several of us made runs with and without red dots. All of us improved our times, splits and accuracy with red dots. It wasn't even close. It's hard to explain, but your reaction time and your natural ability to find the dot when you're in a real panic situation are uncanny. You don't think, you react. And the dot is your best friend whether you realize it or not. It's a damn game changer, whether you're a novice or experienced shooter alike.

@@EchoDelta2A I agree Dots are a game changer. They're easier. One focal plain to deal with. I don't believe Red Dots are at the end of the growth curve where they are as ubiquitous as iron sights. There is room to grow. I personally do not compete. I do regularly go to the range and practice. I do a drill i picked up called a cold drill. We hang targets go back to the line and wait for a buddy to say threat or beep. Draw and fire quickly. The goal is to not be ready, Cold like an ambush. Yes I carry a Dot. I'm different from a lot. I also train with irons. Put your hand over your heart like saying the Pledge. Both results are the same. i have I'll call it a 15% co-witness with Stock Irons. I turn the dot off. I can line up on this direct mill 507c with the tops of the sights visible at the bottom of the window. Again accurate for defense. As a consumer I like the competition of the manufacturers trying to build the best approach. Trijicon's approach FOR me is not the greatest. They are an industry standard. We are seeing growth in the Red Dot market of different tech with offerings changing. I would like to be able to change without unnecessary costs. Ed Brown makes fine products or I wouldn't have purchased. When it comes to Dots or Irons I want the best and most flexible approach. I think we all train to react to a lightning strike. The Offender will choose the time and place to spring an ambush. You did a great vid providing more data points on the FX-2. Now don't get me started on Night Sights. 😃

Ed brown will cut your slide for a regular RMR. They won’t retro your
Current slide for the rmrcc. I have a Kobra carry with rmrcc and it’s fantastic. I also have a nighthawk with iOS cut and regular rmr. I prefer the ed brown despite the smaller optic. When I present, the dot is more readily acquired with the ed brown. It’s mounted lower in the slide, not sitting on a plate. People hate on the rmrcc but I don’t know why, it’s the best carry optic when it comes to size and reliability.

@@N.S.56 I want to make sure I'm clear. I don't hate on the rmrcc. I do not like that Holosun went with the K footprint as well. Here we are with this inflexible change to new ideas. The closed emitter "Mailbox" is just beginning and nobody seems to have a good mount except for maybe Aimpoint. Let's use a plate. It is a matter of choosing where you think things will go. NHC doesn't have a K footprint plate for their system. Wilson chooses the platform. Only K for Sig and Glock, the 1911's and X series get the rest. All are True Zero. I may go direct mill as the choice. I want to think carefully through that as Electronics can change rapidly. The 507C is direct milled and presents to me the same way you mention for your Kobra on my P-10C. Another thing leaned on Wilson, If a direct milled system is used and there are any issues with the slide, the warranty is voided. Yeah.... I don't expect that to happen but...

@@lenholt7419 I have a Nighthawk with IOS plate and RMR. I dont switch between optics or sights, so for me, the plate is kind of useless, I just want the optic. The Ed Brown cut is lower, the RMRCC doesn't hang over the sides of the slide so it looks better, and acquire the dot faster on the Brown. The Brown solution looks like it is part of the gun, plates to me, look like add-ons.
