RV Camping at Alpen Rose RV Park in Durango, Colorado
Hey folks, here's a video review from Durango, Colorado. Aplen Rose RV park is on US Hwy-550 just a few minutes north of Durango Colorado and 45 minutes east of Cortez, Colorado. Its far enough away from the hwy to enjoy quiet time and close enough to town for adventuring. This is another wonderful RV Park and campground. Just like most of the RV campgrounds we stayed in for our vacation this one has been added to our favorites list.
In the video I said all of the sites have a grill, I was wrong, they might have grills on some of the sites but I didn't see them. I was thinking about the other places we've been in those two weeks. But, this RV park is very nice and you will love to stay here for a few days of exploring or just relaxing. There are so many things to do in the area like hiking, horseback riding, train rides, rafting, sight seeing and you can spend some time at Mesa Verde National Park. See our links below for more information. Angel and I parked the Retro RV and went for a beautiful (scary) scenic drive along the Million Dollar Hwy which took us through the towns or Silverton, Ouray and Ridgeway. We even drove over to the ski town of Telluride, Colorado. I wish we would have made this a three night stay however we did a lot in the short time we were here.
Don't forget to like and subscribe to our channel to see more of our videos as we enjoy life. As always, we welcome your questions and comments.
    Happy Trails & Happy Camping

I'll preface this by saying that I typically boondock out in the national forest, but one can only go so long before needing a proper shower, laundry, dump tanks, refill water, charge batteries, resupply, etc. I stayed at Alpen Rose at the beginning of Sept. 2021. It's a well kept park and nice facilities. Although it is typical of most rv parks/resorts in that the sites are fairly cramp, which is one reason I prefer to boondock. You won't find much privacy unless you go inside your camper and run the A/C. Otherwise, the laundry facilities are clean...$2.00 per load to wash and another $2.00 to dry. The washers are sort of small and it required me to run 3 loads. However, the dryers are large enough that I got all 3 wash loads in one dryer. The showers are clean and spacious. My biggest complaint was how small my site was. I was literally only 24 inches or less from the rig next door. We could look out our windows and watch each other inside our respective rigs.

We don't mind the closer sites so much when we're on the go. In the near future we plan to visit BLM areas for some real space. Thanks for watching the video!

WOW...I can't believe the completely unprofessional people that runs this RV Park!!! SHAME ON THE OWNERS FOR ALLOWING PEOPLE LIKE THIS TO ACT SO INAPPROPRIATE!!!
NOTE: The one star is a huge stretch! But Harry that greeted us was very nice and informational as well, as you will see in this review.
We arrived at this location on time for a 9 day stay August 2024. We had a couple questions that Harry couldn't answer before he took us to our site. He warned us about the office ladies and said they were in a good mood this morning and to bring chocolate to get answers to our questions. We laugh for a moment thinking that's weird and then Harry took us to our site.
We have a 31' class A rv and they put us in a very tight site close to a large tree which seemed ok until we parked in space #37. The smell of sewage was overwhelming. We looked at the water hookup and dump area and there was feces, used TP paper and ? all over the ground. We proceeded to report this to the lady behind the desk in the office. She had an attitude right out of the gate and told us it was ok and not a sewer problem. First lie! We told her we were not going to stay in the sewage dump area. With an attitude, she said we could use the "Emergency site #53" so we walked over to take a look. It was very very tight for our Rv and jeep, but it was the only site they said was available even though the campground had many open sites. We went back to the rv at site #37 and watched the 2 worker shovelling up the dirt, tp, and ? from that site and putting it into a 5 gal bucket like it's something they have done before! We waited and watched. Then they put down Chlorine chunks on the ground to mask the smell. 10 minutes later, No one told us to wait there to be escorted to the next site #53, so I proceeded to move our RV out of the way of the digging, over to that site as my wife went back to the office to let the woman know we would try #53 site if that was OK and that I was headed to the new site with my our RV. WELL, Nothing like being greeted by a GM in a robe giving my wife all sorts of attitude with her posture and language threatening and telling us to not move the RV. My wife asked why and the Old red headed lady "GM in a robe" said we needed to be escorted. My wife said OK but no one told us! This old lady snapped at my wife in a very disturbing manor. She came back to our RV upset and told me the store. What a mess! we weren't onsite more than 20 minutes and they showed their asses! WAY TO GO OWNERS!
The 2 guys that I guess were supposed to escort us were too busy digging up feces and dirt so maybe they forgot...?
2 days went by and we did not have enough room for our tow vehicle to park correctly. So on Monday morning Aug.12th, 9:00 AM, I went to the office to ask if they could move us to a better spot and we would pay the difference. Site K was available per what the website was offering. I asked the woman behind the counter if we could take that site. OUT OF THE GATE SHE HAD AN ATTITUDE BIG TIME!!! She said the sites were only for big rigs 42' long. I said ok but there is a fifth wheel out there now that's the same size as our Rv and my question was can I reserve the site for next year. She again asked me the size of our setup. I told her with tow we are 42'. I told her our rig was 31' and then she throw her hands in the air sat back in her chair and called me a liar! 3 times calling me a liar! The Old red headed lady in a robe approach me and said if I wasn't OK with the site, she would reimburse us and we would need to leave. I proceeded to address the ruud woman behind the counter and then told the GM that we had sewage smell at the site, allot of mudd and the water smells, this was at site #53, "Emergency site"
The Old red headed GM lied and said the backup in site #37 was leafs! I laughed and said she was full of it because I was there and both the workers admitted it. Lie #2. I told them I was not happy and will make different accommodations and will let them know. Before I was done with them, another Park GM told me he was in charge of the park and asked me about the sewer smell at our site. I asked him what his position was and he said he was the onsite engineer...CJ. I told him I was an engineer as well and he asked me what type of engineer and I told him. The next words out of his mouth were insults. I let it go! He proceeded to show his ass by trying to tell me how an open tank will allow smells into your home or RV, This guys obviously was from another country with his silly hat and sandals! I told him that's why we have drain traps right, he nodded. Again SILLY!
later that day we had another guy ask us to move our jeep 4 feet into our site, he told us he was the Park GM. That's 3 GM's. I moved the jeep back and forth because there was no room.
Lastly. We set up new accommodations somewhere else and I called the office to let them know we were leaving 4 days early and to refund us for those days. 20 minutes after we left the park, we received a text stating that we had filled the sewage drain tube with rocks and that we were going to be reported to some entity and have to pay for the drain repair/snaking.
So they have sewage backups and are trying to blame the customers!
So we will report this park to every entity available to us letting people know about our experience and to beware!
As a side note: when you arrive to a so called "RV resort" and you see the entrance all broken up and mud puddles, pool closed and lack of effort to the upkeep of the site, turn around and leave! The hwy 550 is very loud as well! THIS PLACE SUCKS AND SHAME ON THE OWNERS!

      Hey Dave>
I've been thinking about your experience. Man, I sure hate to hear it😒. We may be headed back in that direction in the next year or so and I can't help but think maybe we should to stay somewhere else. We post these videos to help folks find a nice place to stay but over time I guess things like new owners change things up.
I'm glad you took the time to comment and share your experience because after all, we (camping folks) need to hear the bad as well as the good.
We always hope you and anyone else have awesome camping experiences and never have to deal with these sorts of troubles.
Angel and I hope your next camping trip will be above and beyond AWESOME!!🙂
      Thanks for commenting Dave!

I am debating canceling my leg of the trip to Page, Az and staying here and exploring instead. Would you recommend as I heard in the video you came from Page?

      Hey Kyle.
Let me tell you, thats a hard choice to make!!
In time we plan to go back to both Page and Durango. I think maybe a week in each place would be ideal. There are so many awesome things about both places. For example, "The Million Dollar Highway" is well worth the trip. Then again, rafting the Colorado River was so much fun!.
I just don't know what to tell you, lol. Toss a coin and make the best out of where ever you stay.
Good luck Kyle and we hope you enjoy every bit of wherever it is you go. Both places are AWESOME!😀😀
Thanks Kyle for watching our video!
      Happy Trails & Happy Camping!

I agree not the best run place we got in trouble for our Rig being too small in a big site when they had four the big sides open the whole time were there. I guess they like to lose customers overall pretty place but yes, lots of opportunity with the leadership team.

What time of year were you there or anyone for that matter. We are trying to beat the heat in Texas. looking at the weather in Durango high 80s seems still too hot for us. I am not in the mood for sweating etc. I need cool weather please! Heat index of 111 is horrid. Park looks beautiful but I am not looking for high 80s or 90.

      Hey KS-lo7se
We were there in mid June. For us the weather was great, any weather in the summer with lower humidity is great for us. I would imagine any time between September and May would be cooler.
      Thanks for watching our video.

    *Newly Updated Safety Suggestions;
I just happened to see your channel, and others similar channels recently, and I think that you, and others sharing their actual reality, and some have expressed some of the up, and down sides to van, RV, or vehicle living.
Although, I just noticed your UA-cam channel, and other similar channels, displaying van living.
I just wanted to remind everyone to Aware Be of your surroundings and Alert, I just posted this anyway to help anyone who may benefit from these suggestions
I believe that it is very helpful, and beneficial to others who may be thinking about this type of living without actually thinking through, about the some of the realistic problems that could occur with vehicle or van living etc...
People need to know what up sides there are, as well as some of the down sides of vehicle living.
I believe this channel, and other channels have been informative to others, including myself.
Although, I am NOT living in a vehicle or anything like this.
I feel that you , and others UA-camrs sharing this with your viewers will be very helpful.
I wish you ALL the Best with your traveling endeavors.
I shared this with several other travelers, as I watched their UA-cam channel for the first time, as yours, and I shared with them this information that may be helpful to you as well to others.
Therefore, I would also like to suggest a few Safety tips, and items that may help you, or others in your viewing audience.
Although, you may have knowledge of this already,
I am not sure, so I hope this will be helpful to you, others or someone.
*Keep a Extra working cellphone with you or in your vehicle.
You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage
Do your research for the best fit for you
Carry Several Extra portable phone chargers, and cables.
    Consider theses items:
    *Mini portable power charging station.
I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices.
*Invest in a Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell signal and reception.
Consider also the purchase of a WiFi signal booster to also boost your WiFi signal.
Research to see what you prefer.
    *Very Inportant:
Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location.
There are various types of these devices, and including devices that can be used when boating, or camping situations.
*Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders.
Some can be synchronized with your smart watch or phone.
There are some satellite SOS texting messaging, locator devices that will send messages with your phone even if there isn’t any cellular signal, or WiFi. With this device your can still text, and communicate with others in a emergency satellite transmission.
Check online, for various emergency SOS products, some are small to fit in the palm of your hand.
You can check online, and on Amazon, research what SOS devices will be a good fit for you.

Use your own discretion regarding the use of any weapons.

Hi Scott, you're welcome, we're glad you enjoyed the video.
The first lake in the video is "Trout Lake" (also the thumb-nail). Its about an hour north of Cortez, Colorado or 15 minutes south of Telluride Colorado off of hwy 145. As you can see its very beautiful. The second lake is "Andrews Lake". That one is about 45 minutes north of Alpen Rose Campground off of US-550. Actually one of the campground employees (Jenny) told us about it and "Molas Lake". Andrews Lake has a short trail (easy hike) for those wanting to stretch their legs and enjoy the view.
It was our stop at Andrews Lake when we decided to drive the loop around from Durango to Silverton, Telluride, Cortez and back to Durango.
Thanks for watching Scott, we hope you all have safe travels
