We just got a school of 8 of these Tetra's for our 40 Breeder tank. So far no problems and they have already grown a bit. I have seen a lot of conflicting videos on these fish and their propensity for eating plants. I have come to the conclusion that it depends on the type of plant. Anubias, Amazon swords seem to be safe but Vals and crypts seem to be snack food. I am feeding them extreme spirulina flakes a couple of times a week and they just go nuts over them. Overall they are a beautiful fish and a good addition to the tank.
do you have any advice on discus? I decided not to get them because I heard they were a schooling fish and being so big would require a large tank to have very many. so what do you think? could I keep just one in a 20 gallon with a dwarf gourami and some cory catfish????
You should really put that neon from the 150 back to the tank it came from. The poor guy is probably stressed AF as they really need to be kept in schools and not kept alone! I wouldn't keep any with the Angelfish so she doesn't eat them,.
I would watch out, these guys chow down on live plants like it’s nothing. They actually do very well in cooler temperatures and can live in an unheated tank. I have a group in an unheated tank with gymnogeophagus el norte and they do awesome.
Same. I've had one for a year without a heater and he's never gotten lethargic or anything because of the lack of heater. Tho I want to get a heater so that I can have a better control of the temperature when I introduce more fish.
Another thing to note, Corydoras aren’t algae feeders. Their natural diet consists of micro organisms. So do better feeding on frozen foods or a Corydoras complete pellet.
I literally just randomly saw your first video pop up on my feed you had that super tiny 10gallon with the betta and Molly's. So I checked out your most recent videos. Great improvement and awesome to see what you have now. Keep up the cool content man!
These are sold as temperate fish here in the U.K. (cold water) Here we’d keep them at around 75/77. Can’t find any reading that suggests them for higher temperatures.
I have 4 buenos aires tetras but they tend to keep to themselves. Mine can get very territorial with each other i dont know why. Is it because I have a low amount, do I need more of them? Any time one gets to close to another it becomes a full on pursuit like you're watching an episode of cops.
Hey James. I hope you're doing alright cuz you've not uploaded any videos for a while now. I don't have the chance to keep fish, so in a way I feel like you're doing it for me and you've been doing that really well. Thanks James for the videos and for existing.
Hi James , I've been loving fish tanks for over 40 yrs I have a 65 gallon over stocked I have a cooking channel maybe I will do a video on my tank, you know your stuff awesome channel .
Be careful dumping new fish in without quarantine. You are taking riduculous risks. She can tell you she doesn't notice sickness most ppl do not until it is later stages. I am glad you added to make sure other quarantine but you really need to start practicing this before you lose your fish. No hate.
@@wyzemann thanks. I have seen him do this over and over and lose his fish to unknown causes. It is ok to spend all the money you want on new fish but I feel fish deserve the protection to the best effort of the fish hobbyists, this is fair. They deserve it.
Gina G Oh, you are definitely preaching to the choir...loudly and clearly. Last spring was probably my worst fish keeping apocalypse since I started over 5yrs ago. You see, I got suckered into a PetSmart $1 per fish sale, and I invested over $40 bucks in serpae tetras & neons. ALL perished within 7 days from some mysterious disease/defect. I swear it was like watching a game of dominoes; I’d lose 3-5 daily. Meds, water changes, and excessive begging did nothing. Luckily, I sustained that loss in a ten gallon qt with no damage to my other tanks. NEVER AGAIN PETSMART!
@@wyzemann my mistake was adding 2 mbunas from Petsmart to my tank and getting a huge outbreak 2 months later of bacteria and flukes and I had to use copper aid and everything died. I can never use this tank again for reef. It is not worth it. Sorry you went through that.
I just got a 200 gallon for the living room I never had a big tank like this I have a 20 gallon and now i have a big 200 gallon I got yesterday any advice
I got one of those from an artificial lake in my city. They're very hardy fish, so even though the lake is full of trash, they seem to withstand it. People in charge of the lake breed them because visitors and locals like to feed them breadcrumbs. They even sell small fishing poles and bait for people who want to fish for fun or to take them home. Their colors are much less vibrant than the ones you see in pet stores, tho.
Haha just so you know Buenos Aires tetras are plant eaters so you should probable consider high veggie content in their diet otherwise your planted tank won't b so planted anymore
Corydoras are NOT algae eaters. They need protein. So sinking shrimp pellets are better than algae wafers. But they honestly prefer bloodworms and tubifex worms to anything else.
Rams horn snails should be kept according to color just like shrimp because if you mix colors they come out brown color. Just wanted to leave that tip for your viewers. Can you keep from shaking the camera too much , one can get dizzy BUT thanks for sharing. overall I really like Video, I watch every time !
The fish are stressed out right now because they are in a new environment especially since its a big tank. They don't know if there are predators reason why they are tightly schooling especially in a ball and staying low to the substrate. Give them a week and they will most likely start swimming back and forth in the mid level.
Unless these are TR, they likely remember Cories from the wild. Glad they feel comfortable. Not a fish I've ever kept. Thought about it recently but got blue and red Columbian Tetras instead. These are schooling in the open, it's safer than the weeds. Predators hide there. "Be the fish". Hope they do well!
Love the new fish! Make sure these guys are always fed well bec they love to eat certain plants. Trust me, mine ate all my nice plants in my tank . Amazing vid and Goodluck!

Hi there so a 16 gallon tank is NOT big enough for a BN Pleco. They need at least 20 gallons, but 30 gallons is even better. Be sure your tank has a stable nitrogen cycle before adding any fish. If you don’t know what that is, you need to research doing a fishless nitrogen cycle. This doesn’t mean letting your empty tank run with the filter on for a couple of weeks. This means that you need to grow bacteria by adding ammonia to the water and coaxing the beneficial bacteria to grow and reproduce. It takes time and patience. BN Plecos also need lots of caves and driftwood. So if you don’t have any of that, then you need to add it. Good luck.
