Joey Bada$$ - Unorthodox (Dirty Version)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Joey Bada$$' official music video for his single "Unorthodox" (Produced by DJ Premier) can be described as just that: unorthodox. Directed by acclaimed directors Coodie & Chike from Creative Control, the video takes the audience on an illustrated journey with Joey, the Pro Era crew, and DJ Premier through the cold streets of Brooklyn. Featuring picturesque backgrounds, and taking inspiration from the illustrations of artist Evan Hecox, the goal was to capture the essence of the artists as the surrounding elements emphasized Joey's gritty lyrics. Watch it now and catch the behind the scenes footage at GreenLabelSound.com.

Only thing that makes me think abt being a better human being. 1 song makes you feel 100 different ways.
Joey is only 19, but is one of the best MCs alive. Real hope for hip-hop, thank you Brooklyn for raising legends!
***** Maaaaaan, that Is his own honest point of view and opinionated statement towards Joey's music career, you moronic knucklehead. Why In the world, would you leave a negative ass comment comparing an uplifting compliment to the "US debt" that's becoming even more fucked up by the day thanks to the government. Why would you say/do that? And at the "Real hope for Hip Hop" Well, to that I say: Many Hip Hop, legends from Talib Kweli, Slum Village, R.A The Rugged Man, Buckshot, DJ Premier, Jay-Z to Jay Electronica, and MF DOOM, has acknowledged Joey, as an artist to respect. And honestly, Joey, Is someone who adds hope for Hip Hop too! I mean think about It, he made people fall In love with boom bap beats again. He kinda made "The underground" mainstream again (which Is fucking cool) So why be such a party pooper broski? Damn, bruh. Your avatar Isn't anything to thumb up. I'm disappointed :/ That Icon, Is supposed to only be used at awesome events :C
***** Dudey. how would a random Individual know that him expressing his thoughts In his own way (down In the comment section) would get other people butthurt. Look, the fact Is, when I bought my first computer, and Internet DSL box, I didn't sign any contract created by the president or Bill Gates of agreeing to get harassed by unknown people for no fucking reason, just because I said something that other people don't agree with. And keep It mind that this Is not about: *Racism* *Politics* *News* or anything that serious to throw a fit about. You basically wasted yours, and my life on arguing about music. Smh
***** He's better then 98% of today's mainstream crap lets be real now lol. You can't get mad cause niggas is putting him up with the greats. Fucking Big L is a top 5 rapper but barley has any music to back the claim that he should be. Don't be salty on the tube.
***** But he's nice though you can't help but compare him with the best. But his Skill is nothing compared to Capital STEEZ. if you had listen to him blindly you would thought he was a grown man. On the other hand Joey Bada$$ has raw talent, you give him a beat he'll give you a dope song. Guys like Him, Kendrick, J.Cole, they're the Hip Hop saviors people have been dying for. It don't matter if you KNOWN or not Joey could rap circles around kanye. That's all that matters he can rap, an he happens to be a beast. At the end of the day all mainstream does is put a lil change in your pocket. You ask any hip hop head who Joey bada$$ is they'll know, who your talking about he was a XXL Freshman. He's already big, the masses don't want to listen to a guy like Joey, they want to listen to future, and drake. I can't compare kanye to tupac or biggie or big pun or nas. I can make that argument with Joey or kendrick or j.cole.
***** I get what you mean
Young fans and new fans from The Battle, welcome. Joey Bad is One of Them.

“It ain’t easy being this ROYAL when you got this much going for you”
“It ain’t hard to be this LOYAL comin’ straight from the soil”
When he says those lines he says royal and loyal in a way which they can be interchanged from each of the words with each other. So they have different meanings if you think about how it’s said. His lines are unmatched, every bar in this is insane. Only Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole have the same talent I think. And the fact he was 17 or 18 when he’s writing this, crazy.
Most slept on Artist
I was also thinking there could be something to instead of "this loyal" could also sound as "disloyal" and there goes more and more you could build on from that its insane..
@@John-Doe-Bot yh. Your correct
Eminem is the rap Goat so he’s able to do this as well. Joey is sick though.
It's disloyal...
Joey was asked why he didn't sign to Roc-Nation. He replied i don't wanna join the greatest i wanna be the greatest, i don't wanna join his empire i wanna create my own.
👍
best qoute ever!!! makin me tear up!
theres 47 votes on your comment lmao. I guess i shouldnt upvote even though i want to haha xD

+FaZe Swan Swannyyy
didnt know you were about that pro era life swan
+FaZe Swan and he was 18 when he released this song!
Joey was 19 here, it’s crazy how he sounded like a vet in his sophomore year in the game
I mean, this is the same guy who recorded 1999 before turning 17
Hey, I know a lot of people put these things, we're a young, conscious hip-hip duo that strives to make positive music while maintaining lyrical integrity. We're just asking for a chance like everyone else and we feel like you won't regret it. So, if you could take a few minutes out of your day to stop by and listen to some genuine hip-hop music, it'd be greatly appreciated. Have a great day. Thanks again.
not worth checking out
Ned Ferg Why not? I bet you didn't even give these kids a chance. I checked them out and theyre pretty dope. It's people like you that complain about the current state of music but won't help those who are trying to save it. You guys have my subscription. Keep it up "M.O.B.I.L.E."
Kyle Jones preetty lame
That's Crazy He Was Only 17 Rapping Like This 😳✊🏾
he's under rated
Agreed.
+ThirdEyeJacob no he didn't
+ThirdEyeJacob how can you say that? B4.DA.$$ was very similar to this and 1999 & he's released like 3 songs, if you're just talking about "Devastated" you need to watch his most recent radio interviews.
You're just going with the crowd opinion cos of devastated
Who else from the young generation still keeping it real like him? This the kinda rap that fuck a Grammy nomination.
I part of the young generation staying tuned to the badman 🔥
Dillon cooper
i heard the start of this music in some movie or a series can you please help???
Grammys always been fake lol. Popularity ≠ talent
Its pure hip hop like this im tryna keep around. this shit fuels my soul i stg.
The fact that this masterpiece only has 12mill views is proof lyricism isn't appreciated anymore
Some people actually don't like this but this is one of Joeys best work.
if not the best.
He gotta bring the fire if he's on the Preem track though right !? :D
+matthew pentecost that's what im thinking. what will he do in the future?

He is gaoted 4 ever
Dont worry what a verse would cost you?
Influenced by acts such as Nas, Rakim, Big L, lupe Fiasco, Black Thought, and KRS-One to name a few, Jem Vasco has developed a comparable yet unique style of artistry that brings back a vibe that was long thought to be lost in the 90's. Jem Vasco's boom bap bringing, hunger filled track "Only Imagine" is brimming with dope samples, raw lyrics and unmatched passion, all glued together with a deadly delivery. Jem Vasco's "Only Imagine" is a breath of fresh air to the hardcore hip hop head. Support real rap.
Did you just write a paragraph promoting yourself in the 3rd person? ahahaha
James Jackson HELLSH YESH! Pretty good huh lol
CaqueeGames That's okay though. Who knows, you may think I'm doo doo on a stick, and if that's the case maybe it's best you don't lol. Thank's for the reply though, can't all be winners hahaha. I appreciate your honesty, maybe another time!
Brooklyn rappers the best emcees and lyricists I swear. So much talent in that community
I dont see peoples gripe with the beat, I think premier did a great job. Joey doesnt need overproduced beats, lyrically this is one of his best tracks and the instrumental is chill and helps ya focus on the lyrical content.
Still here 🔥🔥🔥🐐🐐🐐
I used to blast tf out of this song in high school when it first dropped. Crazy how time flies.
U ain't lying man

CreativeControl
I'll lend my voice in this a bit. I actually helped create a good portion of the video and the style. It took about about 2.5 months to produce just the animation with a team of 4. CreativeControl directed the video portion of it but we produced the animation. Let me know if you have specific questions and I'll answer em (why not..)
CJ Cook How'd you go about making the animations? Was it through a series of photoshop images or Flash? OR? lol idk

How was this shit Nine Years ago man.. 90s babies clocking 30 pretty soon yall

Hes our generations Nas
+zMillz ive always thought he sounded like mobb deep
He has that 90's rap sound. Love it.
+hooligan Yeah he sound like Havoc a lil
+zMillz 90s rap was about progression, so in saying hes progessed
+zMillz He sort of reminds me ODB in some songs.
2025 Anyone ?
We up !
I'm hearing this song for the first time today, 1.21.25
Absolutely, Preemo the greatest producer and Joey on of the most underrated had to come back to this
Not sure 100. But I think it's my joey favorite. Sure I am still here

Stood the test of time without question. Takes me back to much simpler times. Cannot believe its been a decade man... the amount of shit that has happened between the first time I heard this song and now is hard hitting but bittersweet

That's a beautiful thing
TopFiveMoments
the video makes the song even better
I still do in 2024🎉
Gonna tell my kids this is the greatest hip hop song of all time
i think DJ Premier is easily my favourite Producer/DJ. He did a lot of shit with Nas and was fucking amazing with Guru when they were in Gang Starr. He's a top class artist
word up
+Young City Bandit His stuff with InI is legendary aswell. Its never a bad time for Premier beat.
+Dougal Skanes Aren't you mixing DJ Premier with Pete Rock there? Or did Premo really worked with InI? Can't find anything.
Oh shit i think i might be. I listen to the centre of attention all the time. Now that i think about it im pretty thats pete rock.
My bad dawg.
+Young City Bandit RZA IS BEAST ASF TOO
Another Underrated Rapper.
47 shit!!! Back again!!! Classic! Premo n Joey!!
47 shitttt
Premier is the best at scratching in the history of hip hop
But so underated tho, makes no sense 😑
It ain't easy being this Royal.
joey working with primo, alchemeist, q tip, lord finesse .pete rock , statik selektah and hopped on an unreleased dilla beat damn i cant wait for B4.Da.$$ album
This is great music. Shame on all the radio stations for not making the clean version of this mainstream. SHAME!!
the people in the mainstream dont like real hiphop so it wouldnt do to good there....they want autotuned fl studio beats with a rihanna feature
I hope we can do something to make a change
Shhht, let's keep joey secret. Fuck mainstream
G.N.R.L Anthonio yeah it would probalbly make it worse
Gotz to put the mainstream onto this...that's how he will get paid what he deserves. I did see him on SNL last week, so matbw he is about to blow up.
On the regular
Joey amazing his intellect is amazing too especially at such a young age at the time
He 17 here
I think he 17
Damn i use to listen to this when i was 16 as a 27yr old this hits hard
The editing is so good
Hopefully Joey gets more buzz now that he was on Complex

Imagine if this song was in the 90's? How much of impact would joey and pro era have in the 90's is something will never know.
Jim Guerrier he’d be less popular in the 90’s cause rap music as a whole was the 3rd most popular genre
THIS GUY IS A GENIUS. Finally, a rapper talking about social stuff. Love him.
damn im late on joey badass. gotta thank my son for introducing me to his music.
Welcome.
+Jeremy Jackson You've raised a good son so far.
+Jeremy Jackson Impressive.
Word.... my daughter put me on lol
Go listen to 1999 and rejex and summer knights
A legend with another legend
To this day, this song is flawless. Meechy fits this beat so well. Never gets old
Who’s still listening in 2024 ❤
Maaaan, joey better get back to o spitting like this or his debut will be trash. Big dusty and Christ conscious sound like backseat freestyles
I disagree big dusty and Christ conscious are good
If you are referring to Kendrick's backseat freestyle, then you stupid cause that was don't. Either way, disagree, each single is straight SUPAH HOT FIIIIIIAH
lmao please find me someone that could freestyle the quality that is Christ Concious or Big dusty. Please
He's talking about backseat freestyles.. Not the album "backseat freestyles." People who like to rap often get together in the car, bump some music and spit ridiculous shit for fun. Most of it sucks and makes no sense and that's the point of it. It's not meant to be sold, it's just a way to pass the time.
Carlos Vasquez I like those but this is on another level for sure.
Who still here in 2023?
im here

GOD FORBID DJ PREMIER DIES BECAUSE HE IS THE GREATEST SAMPLER AND DJ OF ALL TIME.. THERE ARE OTHA GREAT DJS BUT NOBODY SAMPLES REAL HIP HOP BEATS AS PERFECT .. HES A MUSICAL GENIUS
I disagree there is 9th wonder Pete rock and a lot of people forget about buckwild diamond d lord finesse
I got to agree. I mean you could go on and on about great producers (i.e. havoc, RZA, the aforementioned Pete Rock, etc) but Preem is just...crazy. Been able to stick around in the game since forever and every beat is god like
I think madlib is up there imo
+Gian Distefano PETE ROCKKKKKK
dilla, madlib and alchemist the trio man
The only song in the last 15 years that depicted 90s classic wordplay hip hop
Only? Damn you must listen to like .6% of hip hop then
I 1st watched this on 105 n' PARK back in the day. Still banging fresh!
Africa watching. Loud and clear in Nairobi, Kenya.
When ever I listen to joey after steez passed u can really hear his pain in his songs they dont have the same energy as his old ones when steez was around
i heard the start of this music in some movie or a series can you please help???
HIP HOP ISNT DEAD
hell yeah
meri-caL Lmao that is until he dropped devastated thats when you know he sold his soul to the devil
Hip Hop was never dead. Its a culture. Breakdancing, graffiti, DJ'ing etc
Marcin W actually devastated was a nice song it was it was a bit mainstream but it was no one to told him write that song he wrote all on his own and it came from his label pro era
Still isn't! 2016 & counting...
I don’t think Joey meant to diss West Coast he just told new york to stand up
Nigga... not to sound cliche. but this dude's verses from any song will murder all of drake's career. crazy if you think about it.
true as fuck
deadass
Seriously does
joey is better lyrically but hes not a better artist and can't make hits like drake .. Drake>Joey
+Azeus XIV not only Drake's (Lil Wayne,Tyga,2 Chainz and many more shit ''rappers''
This song shows joey one of the best
Man this is rap, i'm glad i find this rapper!!
spit truth
Joey Badass' lyrical skills + DJ Preemo's Midas touch on the beat + Cole Bennett's knack for filming = a project so good I'd have to laminate it.
STILL LISTENING 2023 anyone?

2024 maybe🎉
Remember being here when it dropped giving praise to real hip hop
Back again at 28 and we need Joey and preme back more than ever😢
DJ Premier back at it again
JTC Hip Hop Clan he's been at it since gang starr
please don't sleep
Hes keepib hiphop alive
Dj premiere leading in two different generations of hip hop is crazy this takes me back to nas is like
Who here 2024 still in it
The Dude is simply destruction. Definitely feeling this track. On another note, DJ Premiere, he went so way back into his prime that he's literally a toddler right now. The beat is bananas!!!!! Hot fire, fuh real.
This will never get old 🔥
my left ear loved this song
from a old rap & Hip hop head... im proud of this kid .. keep carrying the torch of real hip hop
Not to hate but todays MCs need to seriously step up their knowledge and flow game, ain't no one sound like Roots "do you want more???" Album , ain't no one sound like 90s Ras kass, no one is like Big L (don't give me logic) no ONE comparing to Andre's lyrical brilliance or the brilliance of Lauryn Hill, not enough cats giving thought provoking songs like Gods earths and 85ers by Poor Righteous Teachers no body got crazy connecting lines like AZ, cats slacking today and dope producers need to really start digging for themselves to find dope MCs cause they're out there....just sayin
Real lyricist are coming back around, trust me. We have a lot off nice artist out right now but everybody needs to stop supporting that repetition southern sound because I've been done with it. Anytime I hear that kind of beat I switch the radio, including the people that I do like.
Think you need to expand your artists you listen to and hit up that rapgenius a little more.
i know that comment wasn't directed towards me CodesTv cause i can give you a list of MCs that will destroy anyone you post on your "channel" and il start off with A-Butta an MC you probably have no clue about..think before you speak because i live and breathe hip hop on a 24/7 basis.
and i won't mind taking you to hip hop school any day of the week, but you probably won't have the balls to respond to this comment cause you don't wanna deal with someone who actually understands the Art of Hip Hop
Dude shut the fuck up no one cares
2022 and still one of the best records ever
word 🗣🔥🌌
I don't know what Joey doing right now him and Dj Premier should do more work together this song nasty as hell 🔥
I believe if jay z didn’t have the New York game locked with his insecure corruption …. Joey would’ve been more of a household name
🎯
This is the dumbest thing I’ve seen all day Jay z don’t have anything to do with Joey not being successful. Pop smoke was literally up next before he got killed. He was charting on the billboards and hot in the streets. Even 6ix9ine before he snitched was the hottest artist in New York. Joey simply doesn’t have club records how is that hard to understand? His biggest club song at the time was my yout. You can’t blow up without commercial music it’s that simple. Joey would tell you that you sound stupid.
Too bad this was his peak. His music and message has declined. Something the world is clearest when you are young, and as you get older you lose your ideals and succumb to your most base instincts. He could have been the goat, but unfortunately now his music is not nearly as deep.
All Amerikkkan Badass is a classic but I definitely understand what you mean about his latest stuff, it isn’t trash at all but just not what it used to be. I think he lost passion after that album. 2000 is good but definitely not the same intensity & emotion as AAB
Well said from both of you. He still makes good songs, and 2000 is a vibe, but the hunger to be the best just isn’t there anymore from a lyrical standpoint.
This the song that put me on to Joey.🔥🔥🔥
welcome back 🫡
5 years later and Joey still has some of the best word play and vocabulary in all of hip-hop, truly a legendary rapper, one of the greatest of all time. I'm seeing him next month for STEEZ day, so hype!

earl sweatshirt wins in word play..Joey wins in music production and delivery
earl is alright but there's no comparison between him and badass
Joshua Wright i agree , not everything has to be compared to draw a point sometimes its better to see artist indivually
i agree earl is a real lyrical genius he is extremely talented listen to mac miller ft ear sweatshirt - bill
earl introducing new levels but not raising any.
i think joey and earl are just as good
