A really impressive feat of engineering and an excellent video. My late Uncle worked as a foreman for Costains during the installation of the cofferdams in the late 70's. Great to be able to see how the project unfolded. Thanks for sharing.
Wish my teachers had taken me on a field trip to something like this, all we got was a visit to a recently closed whaling station that stunk to high heaven and was bloody freezing cold on the day.
Hello, I love that school trip. Is it difficult or easy to book for a class? Unfortunately, the pandemic will spoil the planning of school trips!!! The Thames Barrier school project was outstanding! Good for you. I am impressed with the scholarship. A+++++++++ Thank you for sharing. REgards.
Just sen this in 2017; this is the only video where i've seen how it was built!, stunning work!. Interestingly there are some pipes that run across the whole river for electricity etc. I'm gonna try and find footage of people walking through them! Again; great clip!
Mrs Richards: " I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?
Fools, all of them. All that work when a trash bag would do... When a flood come each person calmly climb into the trash bag, float around a few minutes waiting it out. When the water goes back to normal the people simple climb out and carry on with their day.
Why must individuals always have to comments there great relatives worked on these projects. My relatives worked on many major construction projects now on UA-cam but I don't feel the urge to tell the world, its just bragging

I was one of those kids from Windrush School!
4:32 such a relaxed attitude to health and safety back then!

Really impressive British Engineering! Also it looked like a good idea having the school kids making a model and following the project.
You need to give the Dutch some credit
Thank you Margaret, you wre just the best

Yes we looked it up 15mins, and they didn't even have internet access back then, kids referring to books, that's awesome
Good Lord. The actor Derek Newark acting as the man from the Thames assisting the school party.

Epic
A pity no sign of Shier's divers. It was a wonderful job 1976.

This is the way it works in my town, it's much cheaper

I bet there was a few old ww2 bombs being pulled out of the river
