The Vintage Revo Deluxe - All you need in a 3 pickup guitar, and more! (And it's short scale!😁 )
Are you a fan of 3 pickup strat style guitars? No? Me either! I love the sound of them when other people are playing them, but I've never really got on with them for some reason. However, this @VintageGuitarsOfficial Revo Deluxe in Greenburst is a different story.
The shorter scale (24.75) is really comfortable to play, the neck feels great, and I love the pickups, and what you can do with them using the switching and bass and treble roll off controls. It does all the things you want a guitar like this to do better than my strat, and then has a few more options, all of which are really useable. A very versatile guitar, I was impressed.

The Rapier Mercury - tiny, but MIGHTY!
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Місяць тому
Another Rapier that's really channelling some early 1960s vibes for me. Short, 24" scale, but a comfortable fat neck with 24 frets, and it weighs virtually nothing. Interesting switching options for the Burns style pickups too, from the extra bass cut control and the middle pickup with it's own switch and volume control. A fun little guitar. :-) 0:00 - intro jam. 1:16 - What is the Mercury? Spe...

The @VintageGuitarsOfficial Revo Custom Supreme Baritone VI works as a Baritone or a Bass VI depending on how you string it. Here I have it in Bass VI tuning, E to E an octave below standard. Another cool variation on the Surfmaster shape comes with this VERY playable 12 string thinline model. More than enough jangle for the usual 12 string fare, but the Astrosonic pickups and the ATN5 tone selector really make it a lot more versatile than you might expect. And it even stays in tune! 0:00 - Intro Jam 1:24 -What am I looking at today? 2:25 - Specs 4:24 - The Pickups and switching/ele...

It’s a baritone. The scale is (26-)28”, not 30” for a Bass VI. I can change strings and down tune my guitars to be tuned in these styles but doesn’t make them anything more than the standard guitar with additional steps. Same way we can soup up cars with bigger engines to increase HP and match the torque of a lorry but it still won’t be a lorry and haul trailers.

Years ago I had a 1956 Gibson ES 125, which this guitar is clearly based on. It played like a dream. Then for a while I switched from Jazz to Rockabilly, selling the ES 125 to get a 1961 Gretsch Double Anniversary (which I still have). But I always missed that ES 125 and regretted selling it. Having gotten into Jazz again recently, I decided to get one of these - the non cutaway, single pick up version - as the average price of 3000 pounds for an ES 125 is now beyond my price range. Best decision I made. This guitar is like the return of an old friend. It does exactly what that old 125 did back then, and looks as cool. My 'test' piece for this guitar in the shop was the Barney Kessel intro to 'Cry Me A River'. The sound and tone was all there! I no longer mourn the sale of my old ES 125, and cannot recommend this guitar enough.

This is my favorite guitar. The first one ever given to me was by my uncle, a 1997 dreadnought that still sorta works, it was the first guitar my grandmother ever bought him, before he was even a teenager. These guitars really do carry memories in my opinion, I almost feel it's easier to play than other guitars.

Sounds tinny like a cheap Harmony acoustic to my ears with little to no resonance and no harmonic overtones that i can hear. There may be a reason no one uses cherry laminate as a tone wood. I dunno. Not my thing.

I would recommend that you try perhaps the most famous Canadian acoustic guitar, the Seagull S6 Original. It has a cedar top which gives it a much warmer tone than spruce. The back and sides are made of the same Canadian Wild Cherry that is used for the Fifth Avenue. There are countless reviews of this guitar actoss YT and I do believe that you would be most interested. I have played one myself and it is pure majesty. The Godin Metropolis Classic costs about $1,100CAD while the S6 Original can be had for about $800CAD. I would say that the tone of the Seagull S6 Original is superior to that of the Godin Metropolis Classic, of course, that is only my opinon and you may disagree. Regardless, Seagull is a Godin brand and the guitars would likely be made in the same factory as the Godin Metropolis Classic (along with Simon & Patrick, Norman and also Art & Lutherie Guitars) so you can expect the same quality of components and Godin's high-level of manufacturing skill and finishing. I know for a fact that the Seagull S6 Original can be purchased in the UK and is THE quintessential Canadian acoustic guitar. Cheers!

Very nice demonstration Ben! Your playing is superb and you really bring out that guitar's voice. Absolutely top-notch! It does make me wonder though... Why doesn't Anderton's carry Godin or Seagull guitars? You can see for yourself how amazing that they are. I just find it surprising since major vendors in North America like Long & McQuade, Guitar Center and Sweetwater all carry Godin and Seagull. It would seem that the UK is missing out on a great line of instruments from the Commonwealth. Sad, really.
