    I'm an engineer here at UR and I'm working on webinars and videos that will help our customers learn about our robots. Just wanted to say I just happened across your channel and I think you're doing great things for the industry, thank you for your hard work and the great content.

    5:52 I know the video was posted 3 years ago, but since I saw the calibration board, and my PhD thesis was in this field, The black and red circles for asymetry shapes at the corners can be eliminated by adding or reducing one row or column of the checkerboard pattern. The shape becomes asymetric if the number of rows and columns of square would be the combination of odd and even numbers. If anyone from RobotIQ read this it might be a useful thing for them. :)

    I don't know if I like your fixture video's or your new robot series videos but keep up the awesome work. It's so cool that your sharing the whole process of getting your robot up and running because I don't think i've ever seen a series of video's like it. Usually all you get to see is the robot sitting next to the machines already up and running and its so interesting to see the whole process from start to finish so keep up the hard work and thanks for sharing.

    Great video series showing the whole integration journey!
    On a side note, I just had to chuckle - the apps engineer from your distributor showed up to talk about a Universal Robot with Robotiq camera/gripper wearing a Yamaha Robotics shirt... That's the life of a distributor summed up in one visual - serving many masters!
    Keep up the great content guys!

    Make sure you plug in the usb from the camera to the SS port on the controller. There are two USB ports. One will be for the usb hub and the other will be the camera. If the plug the camera into the hub, you might experience some lag in the Robotiq URCap.

      Can this robot pickup Tayor Swift if you have the right gripper?

    Looking forward to seeing just how much out of position that camera can deal with properly. Can it also identify features and use them to locate?

    • @adisharr
      @adisharr 5 років тому

      It can use features and/or an outline but the control is very limited.

    Just a stupid idea, would it hurt the lifting capacity too much if the center of the suction area is off from the robot attachment center point? That way you could keep the maximum gripping area int the vacuum block.

      I think I know what you mean, but pocketing an area in the vacuum gripper wouldn't change the vacuum holding level.

    Very interesting video. Some things come to mind. It looks like the camera placement will be a limiting factor regarding the gripping tool size and placement. Also, usage of multiple USB interfaces may become a management problem. Especially if you should want to use more than one "add-on" application and it also comes with USB interfaces.
    My two cents. Please take with a grain of salt.

      This solution is more of an ease of use type. There are others that work as well or better but are more complex to setup.

    The cable/connector is absolutely awful in the wrist camera. Mahe sure you keep the strain on it to an absolute minimum.

    That's pretty ridiculous that they use a licensing dongle; couldn't they put the license inside their custom hardware?

    • @LumaLabs
      @LumaLabs 5 років тому +2

      Agreed. That seems super silly. I am sure there has got to be some funky limitation with the UR controller they are kludging a workaround for though, because if there isn't a compelling engineering reason for the dongle... bejesus!

    • @Anonymouspock
      @Anonymouspock 5 років тому +2

      @@LumaLabs the other option obviously is to not put DRM in the software .... but I understand companies selling into the industrial space have unbelievable levels of distrust of their customers (definitely not looking at Dassault) so management wouldn't let that fly.

      My guess is that they did not develop any of the image processing and object recognition/tracking software - they are licensing it and using an API. This is great, but perhaps the third party has a licensing scheme that requires this. I recently completed a project with a lot of image processing where we licensed the IP. They called the shots on how we were allowed to validate the hardware and it was kinda dumb. Our only other option was to write our own code that would have killed the project immediately.

      @@Factory400 that seems like a logical conclusion.

      They are using the library from Matrox hence the dongle.
