American Quakers were opposed such activities as the declaration of American Independence, and against the Revolutionary War full stop. They were also opposed to violent demonstrations, and did not want any army to fight in their names. While some supported the colonies and others were avowed loyalists in principal, the majority of Friends followed their faith and largely stayed out of the conflict. Additionally, Quakers rejected not only the conflict itself, but also refused to pay any taxes or fines that supported a militia. Quakers who refused to support the war often suffered for their religious beliefs at the hands of non-Quaker Loyalists and Patriots alike.
That's because if they fight the government (peacefully) this time, then they can avoid going to a (deadly) war in the future. Plus, there's also the risk of losing all the free money the government gives them.

Rulling a government with secular religious rules is contradictory to democracy and a functioning country. All religions are philosophies not fact, believe whatever you want, just keep it to yourself. You have no more right to tell anyone what to believe than anyone else does. It's not just that they want people to protect them. It's that they demand conflict.
That's a good question 😎👍.
To answer that let me tell you something.
They believe that studying (their holy books) and praying they protect their country, just like that 🤷♂️.
So they believe that they are actually doing something and that's the reason they deserve to don't work and free money.
How ironic and selfish…appalling.
"We are different from anyone else that's why we all wear the same clothes"
No military service then no voting allowed.
Service guarantees Citizenship
They also get subsidies and stipends, so half of the ultra orthodox don't participate in the workforce, hence they don't pay taxes either.
Wait, I thought that Israel was a "shining bastion of democracy." That doesn't sound very democratic. People's right to vote should not be contingent on the willingness to sacrafice their life for their country.
@takunveritas women in Israel have mandatory service too.
@@annmariedeignan2596 I don’t know what country you are from but when I sore in to be a US citizen, they made me swear that I would fight for the US if someone invaded.
If they don't want to take any responsibility for the security of Israel, they are welcome to leave. Then they should not receive any social funds whatsoever. This situation is unsustainable as it is with the Haredim not having to serve and contribute to the society while wanting the benefits of living in Israel.
Israel finally show their true colors, they want to live with someone else's expense.
And where are they supposed to go? Brooklyn??
Then they should oppose the war and not approve of it blindly.
They are opposing the war already they demonstrated too many protest against the government for the war
They do. A lot of people in that area hang the PL flag from their windows
@@iwatchwithnoads7480 so they're agaisnt the occupation of land they're currently complicit in occupying? How does that make sense?

1. They have conscience in that particular area.
2. A lot of them have been there since before creation of isrrl so not occupying.

If their faith can stomach war, it can surely digest boot camp.
Well said
Poignant, 💥💥💥
If your war strategy depends on those guys, you've already lost the war.
😂
My understanding is that up to this point they were very pro war because others were doing the fighting for them. They want to have their cake and eat it too
its not about depending on them to win. its about them participating in everyday life beyond the bubble of the cult they created.
Woooow.
They have had free money for years, let them enjoy free housing, too.
They won't feel the difference.
It reminds me of the Quakers in the American Revolution. They were pacifists and just expected the colonial army to fight for them
American Quakers were opposed such activities as the declaration of American Independence, and against the Revolutionary War full stop.
There is a lot of work to do where you don't have to carry a weapon. But they are afraid of work.
Let me see if I understand… they can fight on a riot against the government but they won’t fight for their own land and people… 🤔
I know, right?
That's because if they fight the government (peacefully) this time, then they can avoid going to a (deadly) war in the future.
Plus, there's also the risk of losing all the free money the government gives them.
Don’t want to serve their country or pay taxes? They should find a new country!
Home in Germany and Brooklyn.
Eastern europe?
Their families have been there since before Israel. Their country is Palestine.

My friend's cousin came to visit in Canad from Israel. Said he was studying to be a rabbi so that he didn't have to go to the army. He drank, smoked and did drugs while he was here. He also suggested at one point that we jump a drug dealer to steal his drugs. 😆
I spent time there.
There are certainly delinquent youth.
But I saw clearly they were a tiny minority.
Are they not from Eastern Europe? Majority of them look Eastern European. They look from a different ethnic background from other Israelis who have darker complexion and look Middle Eastern.

Perhaps they should be given an option: either enroll as every other citizen, or lose the benefits of being a citizen, such as voting.
And protesting is not a secular way of life?🤔🤔
what's funny is that they are violent protests, like we see in pro-palestinian protests around the world. Religion is a joke.
No. No it is not.
Of course they want to keep it that way. Men pray and women work. What’s wrong with that lol? If they can violently protest then they are fighting so what’s the difference?
Why are they exempt in the first place?
In the US, they're exempt as well. Same with Jehovas Witnesses. It's all about how one interprets scripture, really.
Not just exempt, they get benefits for every kid from the government and have like 20 kods
@@Owl-of-Minerva this special treatment needs to end in the USA as well.
@michaelfisher7170 agreed. They're exempt from vaccinations as well. They're making Polio great again 🤣
The funny thing is scripture allows for scribes and priest to serve the military. King David rallied them to battle for Jerusalem.
Fighting against your own countrymen in order to avoid fighting alongside them is wild.
Ultra Orrhodox worried they'll also have to get real jobs 😂
War is simply despicable. Do not blame them but you cannot benefit from a nation, expect it to protect you, and offer nothing.
Talk about majority Israelis unhappy with ultra orthodox dominance seems odd. If you don’t like extra patriarchal theocracy then the Middle East is not a place for you.
Lmao yes their society full of contradictions and cognitive dissonance.
No service, no benefits
Sweetly stated, elegant symmetry
and to the point.
Cognitive dissonance. The hypocrites don't like being shown up by people actually practicing their religious values.
Finally people have figured the numbers game. If they all protest there will not be enough room for them in jail.
Peace not war
Rulling a government with secular religious rules is contradictory to democracy and a functioning country. All religions are philosophies not fact, believe whatever you want, just keep it to yourself. You have no more right to tell anyone what to believe than anyone else does. You only have the right to decide for yourself. End religious power and you end wars. Fighting over a philosophy is pointless as anyone can make up a new one to contradict yours, so on and so on. Just look at our history. Let's grow up as a species.
Right. Nobody knows if there really is a heaven and God after the end of life.

The world would be better off if all Israelis studied Torah rather than war.
So why cant they be medics, cooks, logistics managers, mechanics? There are many non-combat roles, it seems that they simply dont wish to contribute to the same degree as other Israeli citizens.
They are lazy.
They think their only roll in life should be to study the Torah and pray. Even in non-combat rolls, they'll still have to take time off from their studies, wear uniforms instead of their religious garb, shave, serve alongside women and religious minorities, etc.
