A YG fan's dream: Visiting a YG store in Korea

- Note: Apologies for the low volume during the live speaking parts, as I forgot to bring my Rode mic in Insadong. Visiting YG Place wasn't in my plans that day, so when I stumbled upon the store, I shot video with what I had. Thus, I had to use the camcorder's internal mic, which sucks in capturing sound in noisy places.

I accidentally stumbled upon a YG Place in Anyoung Insadong, Seoul and curiosity got the best of us. Armed without my usual Rode mic and just my camcorder, I wanted to still shoot some video on the YG Place.
If you’re a K-pop fan, or better yet, a YG stan, this store has a ton of YG merch.
A special thanks goes out to the store managers at the YG Place. They not only allowed us to film the store and take pictures, but even told us about the trends of Korean K-pop fans.

This is why I wanna live in Korea atleast when Blackpink do comebacks. Shipping is damn expensive from Korea to US.

Regardless of the low volume, u really did a good job showing what is inside the store. It's also a plus that the employees were so cool about letting u film
Yeah, it's unfortunate I didn't bring my Rode mic to the store, so I had to put subtitles so people can hear what I said. It was pretty cool the employees were totally cool with letting us film though, so I give them major thanks for letting us do so.

@@jett5084 yeah if you buy it directly from YG physical store and you live in Korea. But for us that are living too far away, we need to pay a lot more since we're buying from a third party seller and shipping is way too expensive as well. 😔

I'm a YG stan even though EXO is from SM. I love every artists from YG and a fan. I really really want to go there. I was just quite sad because AKMU doesn't have merch there. This is very interesting. BlackPink finally releases an album, Treasure debuts, and a bear named Krunk has merch in the official YG store. Except where Treasure is concerned, all of this is LATE-LATE-LATE! How nice of YG!

I think it's really weird selling item from artists that is not anymore in yg, Imagine getting money from a artist that not anymore under ur label
That's a fair point and I can understand it being a bit weird.
Yet, YG Entertainment does own the rights to any previous artist and their songs (unless the artist has a contract that keeps their own songs).
There's a lot of older fans that would still buy merch from previous, iconic artists, such as 2NE1. A lot 2nd and 3rd generation fans would gladly buy YG merch if it reminded them of their past, favorite K-pop hits.

This was amazing dude!!! You did a fantastic job showing us around. I got a real sense of the place. Blackpink is usually top 2 or 3 on my fav list, interchangeable with redvelvet (twice will always be my ult). I would absolutely buy so much bp merch if I ever got a chance to go there. My strategy would be to bring lots of t-shirts and slowly give them away as I bought merch. That way on the last day I would be down to a clean set of clothes for the flight back while having my suitcase filled with kpop merch.🤔

I was thinking of that too, but my suitcases are almost fully packed! I got the only thing that I could fit (the Rose doll and an album) and was happy with the purchase.

I don’t think YG past artists’ merch should be there. Since they left, using their name for more profit would be pretty rude although YGE can (since they have copyright). Probably provide more material for media to chew on them.

@@mihriyam4078 That;s what I thought too. However, there are a lot of fans that have only discovered 2ne1 after they disbanded. For others like myself, I've been a fan since 2009 but I've only been able to travel to Korea on Dec 2016 which was the year 2ne1 disbanded. It's difficult for intl. fans to buy official merch. There are a lot of counterfeits out there so I would be happy to have the option to buy from the official store. Although, I understand how sour that may look to the artists that left since they will not profit from the sales.
I agree that it's a bit weird, but, for example, I recently discovered Bigbang's music and if I had a chance to buy their album in that store, I'd definitely do it. But it's fair that things from past groups take just a little bit of space, the majority of shelves is filled with current groups' merch.
Since YG cut 60:40 for artists on merch. They prob need to find a way to distribute the $ to the former artist too. Otherwise, they might get into potential lawsuit. Not sure how the legal work but I think they can’t use former 2NE1 image for sale (except Dara). They prob can sell stuff under Dara and 2NE1 umbrella but not the other members’s image. Not sure how SM does it. But yeah, I really want an NOLZA and one of a kind hoodies.
Thee company has it's copyright and can legally do it, even though they chose not to. It does feel weird to not have former artist there like, are they gonna pretend BP and iKON didn't exist after they're gone?

Unfortunately most of not most Korean hate seungri and yg now, they literally have trust issues in yge
I think its best to put it out of the stock to respect seungri's decision to totally retire from the entertainment industry. Either way people would still come after YGE for, first, like what you said, and second for profiting out of seungri's image even after his decision to leave the industry.

@@eura_minaj There's a big problem with your comment. "companies are so sensitive IF u REALLY DID something bad". So far Seungri's case is still in court and honestly I dunno how bad his charges are viewed in your eyes, because Daesung, GD and T.O.P have had their scandals some more heavier than others (and if that something bad you're talking about is linked to the JJY&CJH scandal, then Seungri's definitely cleared there).
This is not the first time YG artists have done "something bad", and is not the first time YG does nothing to defend their artists so I doubt the "business" part is about his case and is more related to YG washing "his" hands of everything.
There were a lot of 5 members merchandise if you look closely in the video. They probably don't have merchandise that have Seungri's face or "clear" image.
How I wish there's also an official yg shop in our country, it'll contribute big to the company since some doesn't know how to order online

AKMU is still part of YGE they renewed their contract in 2020 just letting y’all know and the former YG artists are Epik High , Lee HI , 2ne1 , PSY , Se7en , Gummy.

It's great to see people from LanguageCast back in Hongdae. I really liked everyone there and it's where I met so many of my friends. I think YG can't sell merch from past artists due to trademark/copyright issues since they can't make money from the likeness of former artists unless permitted to do so.
