I still love my Gear S3 from 2016. It may not be as regal as the Garmin, but I think it's just as classy and evidently very durable. The steel casing has some scratches and the battery life is reduced but the screen is pristine and rotating bezel still clicks.

I'm a mechanical watch guy and I love my Sinn 104, Oris Aquis and Seiko "Willard". I'm interested in smart watches, but the big problem for me is that most of the time the screen is black. I see that Garmin make "always on" watches with good battery life but the battery saving displays are low resolution. I'm tempted to get one anyway, but I'd like to see the technology mature a little more.

While I haven't seen anyone wearing a MARQ series watch, I would say 40 or 50% of Navy Pilots wear a Garmin Fenix series watch. In some commands, they are actually issued one. I know of at least one story where the crew used their Garmin watch to safely navigate and land their jet when they had a malfunction and lost all of their instruments in the cockpit. And don't get me wrong, most of us would love the MARQ or even the D2 series, but they are hundreds (or thousands) more than a Fenix and they only have one or two features that the Fenix doesn't.

my Fenix 3HR still functions the same as I bought it 5 years. Even the battery is still good. About 5-6 days without running. 3-4 days if I run everyday. I expect MARQ would last 10-15 years.

I've been using a Garmin Fenix 5+ for about a year, since I got tired of the poor performance of Wear OS.
    It's been great.
Also Garmin has top of the line fitness and activity tracking far better than most smartwatches.

@@tdebug1 I tried a Galaxy watch before going to Garmin. It worked ok, but caused about 20% battery drain on my Pixel 3 from the Samsung software. The fitness tracking is also garbage. The heart rate monitor is useless during workouts, since it fails to pick up heart rates over 130 bpm and can not pair with an external HRM strap.
The Garmin has none of those issues.

@@BryanHoefer Yes I agree. I still have a Galaxy Watch, which I use randomly and it's hardware lighting years better than any Wear OS watch still. Wear OS devices limited to ancient qualcomm chips, which make them working only a day with always off screen. Enough to ridicule the platform, which also far from the best.

Garmin makes some of the best durable smart watches. My Fenix 3 lasted 3 years, and it’s still running strong. I’ve since upgraded to the Fenix 5X, and it’s even better.

Wondering if you’ve checked out Garmin’s new S62 golf smart watch and how it compares to the Captain. I love the Captain in terms of quality build but need for me is something that’s more about golf versus fitness.

To double the warranty for such an expensive product from one to two years is a joke.
4 or 5 years seem more appropriate if they designed a high-quality product and trust in their own engineering.

Great review! It’s funny how paying $1850 for a smart watch is way too much but paying $1850 for a traditional, mechanical watch that can only tell the time, such as a Rolex, is a great deal 😂

    • @Ahmed90401
      @Ahmed90401 2 роки тому

Because unlike a smartwatch, which has a shelf life. A traditional mechanical watch is forever. Also, a nice timepiece works as a family heirloom. I can't imagine the current Apple watch would be relevant or interesting... or functional, 25 to 30 years down the road. Whereas a Rolex or Omega will always do what its intensed for, which is tell the time as accurately as possible.

You skipped the most important feature of the screen. Yes it is low resolution but it’s that way for a reason, you can see it under light. No backlight needed, just put it towards any kind of light source and you can see the screen. It is VERY VERY visible, which is highly important in terms of battery saving and outdoor fitness. And sailing, I guess...

Garmin has been overlooked as a smart watch for a while now. Their watches do great notifications and are the best for health tracking. The fenix series gives you basically every feature the mark series does at a quarter the price.

I'm super happy with my Fenix 6x Pro Sapphire. I got it for way cheaper and as for as that compared to the Commander MARQ version I would much rather have this one. I get roughly 9 days of battery life on average use and that is with Heart Rate one all day, and exercise or runs every day using GPS during that duration of fitness. I turn notifications off most of the time since I have my phone with me but love that I can download songs to it from Spotify. When I put it in battery save mode I get 80 days of battery life!! NO JOKE. I was on a shot 3 month deployment and I never charged it once. Now I had most things turned off and used it every so often for GPS and grid pulling but it lasted forever!

  • @_Makanko_

Don't worry, considering the trend of phone prices, these prices will be very acceptable in two years time.
Beside that, I'm glad you found a product that you enjoy and that's all that matters.
