My Mom had a hysterectomy at 37. She started getting Estradiol shots. A day or two after her shot she would be bouncing all over the house like a teenager. I was a teenager and I didn't feel that good. She would start winding down until eventually after abt 4-5 weeks she'd be back in bed feeling horrible. She had 4 children. My Dad would say "Go get another shot". Shed go get another shot and be like a teenager again. She did this into her 60's when doctors started wanting to not give her estradiol shots. Newsflash they had just invented Premarin. She also began using Estrace vaginal cream. She started taking that until her 80's when she needed more so they gave her Estratest and the cream. She had told me if they ever take her hormones away just lock her up. She took that until she died a couple months short of age 96. Age 37 to 96. To feel good.

You made my day! I just turned 65 and my Medicare OB/GYN basically told me to drop off all hormones and go home and die gracefully. Screw her! I look and feel years younger than that 45 year old hag. I still have much to accomplish in my life, many contributions to make, and I'm not going to slow down until I die.

I'm female, 53, and started having severe perimenopause symptoms 2 years ago. Up until then, I had been a healthy, happy, fit, well-adjusted person who handled life's challenges well. Then I had almost every symptom on the list so severely I couldn't function. Debilitating, drenching hot flashes followed by arctic chills every 45 minutes around the clock, making it impossible to sleep, intense joint and muscle aches, severe, constant fatigue, terrible brain fog and memory problems, extreme anxiety, mood swings, and suicidal depression-the list goes on. It was so bad, I was afraid I would lose my job, my boyfriend, my friends, and my home. I felt so tortured I wanted to die. Over a year ago, I went on HRT prescribed by a holistically-minded M.D. in the USA, and without it I probably wouldn't be here. Along the way, I sadly was shocked to experience how much women's health complaints aren't taken seriously.

Good question! Menopause was barely covered in medical school. No education on understanding hormones holistically or the preventable effects of hormone loss. Now doctors are struggling to deal with women armed with evidence based information that HRT is beneficial and has few risks. It's up to the Royal Colleges and the Government to roll out an up to date education programme, that's mandatory rather than optional, for all practising doctors, recognizing that menopause and hormone deficiencies matter a lot, and that menopausal women can be helped enormously.
Doctors need to be open to filling the gaps in their knowledge, not their fault, so they can provide the best service to their patients 😊xx

Men, and women before peri-menopause, just don’t understand how debilitating hot flashes are. They don’t just make one hot, the body goes into constant a fever and chill cycle, swinging back and forth over a minute or so. We can’t regulate our body temperature at all. Every pore on the body feels like a hot needle is being stuck into it, during the fever cycle, it’s painful. I was very angry that I couldn’t get the hormone therapy I needed, I simply couldn’t function at all. I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t eat, I couldn’t stand the lightest, softest and most breathable clothing and I couldn’t leave my house. I tried to sleep with all the windows open in winter (didn’t turn on my furnace once in 15 years), and a thin linen sheet, but still tossed and turned, miserably hot, all night. I bought a special new mattress and all new “cooling” bedding, nothing helped. My case might be extreme, but I doubt it, we women underreport their symptoms and are conditioned to bear painful things in silence. Finally, one doctor prescribed a depression medicine that helps a lot, but why should I have to take that crap for the rest of my life? Men who can’t get an erection like they had as 16-year olds have no trouble getting meds for that problem! Hot flashes were attributed to “female hysteria” until men with testicular cancer started getting them. In that case, they must be real!

I do however get hot flash cycles it could ve 100+ degrees outside and I could be in sweats freezing then all of a sudden I'm hot. I also got a hysterectomy ar 27 I still have my ovaries. Bio identical hormons are really good I did a ton of research into it before my hysterectomy. Bio identical hormones are safer, but quality of life is important. Men absolutely can suffer from hormone related hot flushing.
The reason you haven't heard of it: no one cares / men don't want to be ridiculed or disbelieved by the GP, friends, and family *_"oh are you having your MANOPAUSE??😂😂😂😂"_* / societal expectation to 'man up' and deal / refusal to prescribe T because 'he just wants to look better' etc etc.
Just because you haven't seen it on television doesn't mean it isn't real.

Men also experience debilitating hot flushes, but unlike women are almost certain to be refused HRT. In fact women (trans men) are more readily prescribed MALE HRT than the biological men with an actual quantifiable physical deficiency.
The fact you don't know this speaks for itself regarding which sex is given priority in healthcare.

Who are the THEY that approve what is allowed in HRT for both male and female. The studies on women did not exist in 1995 even though my mom had been on estradiol shots 30 years. All the tests done for female hrt were done on men in prison because as "they' stated "Women do not make steady test subjects".
It has mostly been a male dominated industry from inception.
Changing ones sex is a rather new phenomenum of unrealized success or failure. Losing testosterone gradually is not comparable to losing 100% of one female hormone while losing 80% of another almost overnight. The change is drastic. There are conditions in the hypocampus region of the brain that can shut down production in both sexes. This is little looked at in the beginning while the patient suffers drastically also.

I’m 50 and I’ve been menopause since 46. Today I went to a new GYN since 3 years and asked about HRT because I feel desperate to feel better. Because I have heart disease she said there is nothing she can do for me. I also I ask her, is there a diet I can do that can help me hormonally? She said that doesn’t exist. I left there defeated and angry. How is it in 2021 the medical community still treats woman as “suck it up” as a standard of care.

YesItsMeAgain I agree. I’ve found genecology is kinda lacking in terms of issues with hormones and targeting that directly. I’ve heard they just want to put people on antidepressants or birth control, which often doesn’t really help. I don’t see why they won’t target the real issue, which is a large imbalance in hormones. To me, the other options are more about bandaids.
So, I’ve found a hormone replacement therapy facility that I want to consult with. I have PMDD that messes with my quality of life and controls too much of my life. It makes it worse on my severe physical health problems, as well. I’ve tried homeopathic treatments from Amazon that had at least four star reviews, but they did nothing for me.

I think they should be entitled to write it if they believe it helps you. If they don’t which many believe then they shouldn’t have to. But you should be able to find out the answer to that question before you pay for the doctor.
Personally I’d ask for a referral to a hormone specialist if I thought my doctor was going to cause issue and I needed a referral if not I’d go to the hormone specialist to begin with.
All you women whinging are the same ones that are going to go off your head of your get breast cancer.. and blame the HRT when it’s you that gave yourself the cancer it probably just facilitated it to advance.
Every one of us knows someone who’s had cancer, and died of it. Some doctors believe it causes that and heart issues but again I believe the heart was an issue in the first place.
Get your energy centre balanced if you want to take drugs and you shouldn’t have any issues and probably no need to take the therapy, and make sure you get sun and you have a good voice box.. if your voice box is crap your thyroid is more than likely not functioning and that energy centre is definitely blocked.

To me, the worst outcome would be that we lose our own agency over our own lives. If I want to take ineffective medicine or take narcotics or HRT or whatever then I should be free to do so. The Government pays for medicine through NHS/Medicare etc and tries to spend the money in ways that saves the most lives and then they bring in legislation to stop people smoking and drinking because those behaviours cost the taxpayer more.
Conclusion: You should be free to harm yourself and you shouldn't need a prescription to do it. The taxpayer also shouldn't have to pay for it. Just make it all private and let people do whatever they want. Freedom is scary. Deal with it.

Just find a new doctor and tell them you haven’t had your period in over a year and can’t sleep. They will prescribe but you must know what to say to get what you need. They will start you on an extremely low dose so make a follow up appointment before you leave the first visit and if you don’t feel 100% better increase the dose. Keep going til you feel better and be persistent. I take 2mg of estrodile but the started me on .5mg so that’s 4 doctor visits to ladder up dosage. My mother takes the same level for decades but they still started me very low. Good luck and keep pushing til they help you.

Several years ago my GP referred me to the publicly funded Menopause Clinic, where I was prescribed a HRT patch which was very cheap but eventally I developed and allergy to the glue. The specialist then prescribed and estrogen gel in conjunction with micronised progesterone. This combination has been used in France for some time. I can tell you it worked like a dream. I feel so normal now. I don't have hot flushes, sleepless nights and no crazy thoughts. The specialist at the clinic explained the percentage of risk and what the numbers meant. He gave me confidence to live my life free from the disabling effects of menopause.

To women who watch this: Please do your research.
The term “bio identical” means the hormone preparation, regardless of type (gel/subcutaneous pellets/transdermal patches/cream/oral pills) matches the human estradiol molecule RATHER than Premarin (pregnant mare urine molecule estradiol). Lab created estradiol “bio identical” is of great value for many terribly suffering women. I am one of them. However !!!……the “old fashioned”type Premarin pill has value for some as well!
BUT PLEASE, don’t be told that “bio identical” means something it’s not. It’s simply a lab made pharmaceutical, that has the SAME MOLECULE AS HUMAN ESTROGEN, and NOT pregnant mare urine thus the name (Pre-mar-in). But it’s good that we have a choice between equine/horse estradiol OR pharmaceutical human molecule estradiol. I deeply dislike the tricky use of “bio identical”. Do your research.

Pilar B, you are correct but, as a practicing pharmacist for ( too ) many years, let me add PLEASE NOT THE BRAND NAME PREMARIN - I’m not one of those tree hugger people, but those poor horses are truly abused and inhumanely treated at the various horse farms in the United States, Canada and now China. They remain standing most of their lives, no room to move around in stalls, repeatedly impregnated, slaughtered, etc so they could maximally produce the urine, it’s really cruel and honestly there’s no reason to take the brand name. I’m gonna give my own GYN a lecture about that in just a few weeks! Pleeeease not Premarin(R), uuuggghhh. Google and see! 😢😢

Why are people surprised by any of this. Giving up healthcare to a government to manage was always going to produce these types of results.
They get to say what works, what does not work and when you are allowed to be treated. The NHS approach was suppose to be about providing access to healthcare and was never intended to be a government managements system but that is what it has become.

I ended up going to a special clinic in Sydney, I had been suffering by then for 15 years and my GP tested and said no I was not going through menopause, then I saw a add online for the clinic in Sydney so I rang them up book an appointment, they sent me paper work for a heap of blood tests. I found out that I was in perry-menopause which is the lead up to menopause. I was placed on 3 different tablets twice a day and finally after a month I was starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Because I had a DVT at 17 I was tested every 8 weeks for clotting issues, for 6 years I was on the medication, but only 2 of them could be claimed back from the private health fund for about 1/3rd of the cost, better than nothing. Everything was going great no issues with clots nothing. Then one day I had a asthma attack, never thought anything of it had more blood tests a few weeks after that all clear. I was on my way to the city for special heart scan and before we took the turnoff to the city I looked at me Dad and told him to drive to the nearest hospital which was still a 30 minute drive away and then collapsed. I could not breath well each breath was a struggle, I think Dad must off been speeding to get me to hospital, I was totally cold by then a grey my finger nails and lips were blue when they pulled me out of the truck I was close to death, they placed me on 100% oxygen, once they got me stable I was taken to the city hospital for tests, my whole body was completely riddled with blood clots I had a massive blood clot riding my heart right across in both lungs the clot was so heavy it had flattened my heart and that was the cause of me blacking out. All my meds were stopped and only my heart medication, depression medication were put back in and slowly a few others. All menopause meds were stopped. I was in the Critical Intensive Recovery Unit for almost 2 weeks from there I was moved to Intensive Care and finally to a normal ward. We have no idea what happened I had blood test done the week before for any sign of clots nothing, it just happened over night, it got worse because I had decided to go and lay down to sleep because it was a 3 hour drive to the city hospital and the Drs think that was why the clot shifted as I had been sleeping in my lounge chair for the past few months after my asthma attack.
They did heaps of tests but could not work out what had caused my blood to suddenly start developing clots. I did find out I have two major arteries in both legs 😹😹one on each leg had massive clots but the other one was clear when they checked my arms the same thing there, because I have double the vain works in both my arms and legs that helped to keep blood flowing the poor nurse who was checking my legs thought she was doing the scans wrong and had to get the Dr to come in and check. She laughed and said I was one of the lucky ones I have a backup veins in my legs and arms, the young nurse had never seen this before, it’s rare but it is genetically passed down a family line. I found out that my Mom was the same when she got a DVT from the flight from London to Sydney they found she had the extra major veins in her legs, don’t know about her arms as they did not check. We don’t know if we inherited it from her Mom or Dad as both had passed away back in the 80’s and so we could not get them checked. The rest of Mom’s family have been checked we all have the same thing we all got the extra highways as we now call it😹😹
I was checked because of the number of clots flowing through my system, every 4 days they were checking my veins to make sure of the blood flow and that the two clots behind my knees did not move while it was being broken down.
I was allowed home once the ones in the blood stream were gone, it took another 18 months to 2 years before the clot in my lungs was finally gone.
Thankfully by the time I was able to go home I was also free of 90% of the menopause issues, just as well because I was not allowed back on the treatment.
If I had to do this all over again I would going through menopause left me miserable for 15 years without treatment after I started I was able to work in the yard and do so much more, but I think I would make sure that I was having scans on my attires to see if there were any small clots building, because the blood tests failed to pick up the issue of my blood clotting I was minutes away from death, I’m only here because Dad broke the law and was speeding to get me to hospital.

I had moved back to the Dallas area and I went back to my very first ob/gyn. Twenty years seemed to have taken a toll on him.
After my exam I went into his office.
As I sat opposite his desk, he sort of mumbled out, "You know, you're getting to be about that age".
I asked him, " What age is that"?
He said, "To consider a hysterectomy."
I leaned forward on his desk, my elbow and arm firmly planted under my chest and head and stated, "When they start removing male parts because they're getting to be about that age, I'll consider it."
He had not given me one diagnosis of anything wrong and I have never had one since. I figured he must have had too many ex-wives and needed a paycheck or a heart transplant. Jeesh.
I never went back to him.

Why can men get testosterone and women cannot get estrogen/progesterone?

  • @twogsds
    @twogsds Рік тому +5

The hormone that women don't make after menopause is Progesterone, because it is made in the ovaries after ovulation, we continue to make Oestrogen because the our bodies still function pretty much the same, Progesterone is the balancing or antagonist hormone (single) to Oestrogen (group of hormones). Women would benefit by taking Natural Progesterone, not Progestagin which is a pharmaceutical version of Progesterone which is not the same chemical structure, Women don't need extra Oestrogen because our bodies still produce it, Oestrogen is a natural depressant, Progesterone is a natural antidepressant, Oestrogen stimulates the bone cells that eat away old bone, Progesterone stimulates the bone cells that produce new bone, so using Natural Progesterone Cream protects Women from Osteoporosis, Progesterone also protects women's hearts and fromstrokes, Oestrogen makes the blood sticky increases the risk of clotting whereas Progesterone stops the blood from forming clotting. Doctors aren't taught anything about Natural Progesterone Cream supplementation because our Government stopped it being sold in this country, they also forbid British Nutritionists from telling anyone about Natural Progesterone Cream and the benefits to women throughout their lives. I find it staggering that the British Government would prevent women from living their best lives to ensure pharmaceutical companies can make profits from our suffering. I have used Natural Progesterone Cream all throughout my menopause and have suffered much less than many ladies that haven't used it for one reason or another.

There's this entire scare story based on a single flawed study that's been used to excuse denying women hormone replacement therapy. Quality of life is a major issue and women should be able to make their own educated decisions. I got MS at age 35 and it was so severe I thought I would be in a nursing home by 5 years. After I started an early menopause after a double mastectomy at 39 I was given estradiol. What I accidentally found out was that immediately after starting the estradiol I stopped having MS attacks and have not had one in over 30 years since. We know that most people with MS are female; we know that pregnant women don't have attacks during their pregnancy; there is obviously some hormonal connection but nobody has bothered to do research to find out what And nobody has thoroughly researched using estrogen to control MS either, because estrogen is cheap, and the dangerous and sometimes deadly immune suppressant drugs given for MS are SO much more lucrative! for both doctors and pharmacy companies!! A year of the cheapest of these MS drugs right now costs more than double my annual income.

Sleep deprivation due to hot flashes made me miserable and incoherent. You just can’t function on 3 hours sleep a night month after month. It is harmful. I went to the Dr. And asked for HRT. He kept asking me if I was depressed or anxious. I said no, I’m just tired and need sleep. He prescribed an antidepressant that might have the side effects of stopping the hot flashes. Desperate for sleep I took it once and was sick all night, nauseous, headache. Never took it again. I was lucky and the next Dr. I saw immediately offered me HRT. I am back to normal and able to sleep through the night again. I don’t care what the long term effects might be, I already know what effect sleep deprivation has on my health and quality of life in the here and now.

Went thru menopause. Please try a daily dose of 250 mgs of magnesium. You will sleep much better. I promise you
It's a natural mineral that we all have in out bodies and gets depleted from many things. Menopause is one of them. Try it and thank me later. Oh, I take it at bedtime, after dinner.

Have been on bio identical hormones since 40. I am now 67. I went on them due to debilitating migraines. Helped with the migraines not 100 % but reduced the severity. I did not have any pre or menopause symptoms. No hot sweats, agitation or anxiety like my friends.

I had a Full Hysterectomy at age 46 was never really sick or any problems with my body. I went for my first bone denity screening and found out that my bones were porous i attribute to the loss of estrogen. The Dr's tell you to take calcium well I took it and it didn't help my bones. I can't understand why they can't come up with something that women can take so you can get the estrogen back in our systems without side effects.

There are side effects of estrogen-it will keep you healthy, that’s the main side effect. It will diminish bone loss, lower cancer risk and prevent osteoporosis.

I went to an ob/gyn and I told him I was having cramps (okay, you females know what I mean). He said, "You can't be having cramps, it must be your intestines".
Okay boys and girls, if a guy gets racked in his b****. How can he tell the difference between being racked and needing to take a dump? Anyone know the answer to that?
Men must think we really are inanimate objects and if you can't see it, it doesn't exist. How can men think we have gone from age 12 to age 50+- without knowing when to run get a tampon or when to take a d*mp. It isn't an option fellows. I just thought I needed to *, how was I supposed to know it was a baby?
Plus Every month the cycle of Estrogen build-up, then as it weans off, Progesterone builds up until there is a Huge surge of Estradiol with the Prog. (men usually recognize this part..) and you bite their head off, followed by All Hormones Having Left The Building, you feel like crud and then start your period which takes 5-7 days the first few are a huge Hormonal Deficit Letdown. Followed by a return of Estradiol than Repeat Every 28 days for + or - 40 years.
And you think Women are Clueless?
and need to ask someone else who knows?

I had the surgery when I was 25 (USA) and have been having major hot flashes and night sweats ever since. I was on HRT from age 25 until age 40 (Premarin) when I could no longer afford it. I'm 64 now and have not had a good night's sleep in the past 24 years due to night sweats. (It's really been a lot longer since the Premarin never did anything for the night sweats.) It was a battle to get my "current" GP (female) to start me on HRT again and since then it's been a constant battle because they insist on office visits every 3 months whereas before office visits were once a year! For the past year I've been off HRT because I can't keep going to appointments every 3 months along with everything else. I've been miserable for more than half my life now because physicians just do not listen. And since I've been off HRT the hot flashes are getting worse again. No one cares that I am going to die a miserable death because DOCTORS DO NOT LISTEN TO WOMEN.

ps no replacement therapy . have had stage four cancer with a met to the bone and after beating that cancer ,. I now have a place of concern in my breast they are keeping an eye on. lol so breast cancer is a thing whether you get hrt or not. same for my mom. she has stage 3 breast cancer (is doing well) cancer bene testing shows no genetic factor for any cancers in our family. Likely it's environmental, we did live on a base with superfund cleanup listing. lol We were living on it during the time the water contamination occurred and so many of our large nuclear family with 7 kids have had cancers of different types ,one died of hers when she was young, father died of cancer before he could retire even, the rest of us that had cancer are survivors and the 2 youngest are feeling like a shoe is going to drop for them.too

Men would be miserable without their testosterone injections and Viagra. So give women back their hormones too so they can feel happy again. Stop going to a conventional doctor who is not an expert on this field and start listening to doctors who think out of the box. We get old and miserable when our hormones decline. Replace them, and feel better again.

My gynecologist would not prescribe HRT for me during menopause because he sd there was a much stronger chance of breast cancer because I never had children. I believed him and endured years of hell, not sleeping, hot flashes, etc that was very detrimental to my health overall and over time. It was a huge sacrifice for me... but I still question if it was right for me.

I relate to all these stories and symptoms so much. What really saddens me are the female GPs who basically say in so many words "suck it up." YOU are a female. YOU are going to be going through the same thing on some level. Wouldn't you want to help other women as you are in a position to do so? So many women today seem to want to watch another woman fail, taking delight in it. I don't understand it.
