What's your biggest frustration when it comes to lighting?
The biggest thing for me is how to get it where I want, and with the level of softness you want. I also which all lights were RGB and Bi-color. That’d make my life easier.
@@NatesFilmTutorials I definitely agree with that, Kinda wish my two ML lights were bi color, I have to gel them still :/
My biggest frustration is clouds moving 🤣
Lighting for a group of people. I'm still pretty new to lighting and I'm finding it hard to find good information on what the best practices are for let's say lighting a choir nicely. 99% of guides on youtube are for just lighting one person
The nose shadow.
Bonus tip: You can use different materials to get different levels of softness. Unbleached muslin can be found at a fabric store for under $20. You will lose about 2 stops of light using as diffusion but because it’s thick it spreads light different than a shower curtain. (It’ll also warm up your light by 1000K or so which looks nice on skin tones!)
Also the shower curtains suggestion is awesome! I bought one from the dollar store and have used it for commercial work to get even more softness from a 6x6 scrim.
Honestly, who needs film school when we have Nigel
I go back and rewatch these videos. Such great content!
That shot at 02:48 got that danny gevirtz stile! Looks super dope!
You must be a mind reader because this is just what I needed! Just got my first video light and needed different techniques to test out.
Cheers Nigel!
These are great! The tips about book lighting were incredibly helpful. Thank you!
that was really awesome. Thanks . I've been following for almost 3 years now
That 4:40 shot looked really good!
Thanks Matthew!
Great tips as always! Thanks 🙌🙌
Always great info. Thanks.
very cool, I learned something new here, unlike any other youtuber videography channel out there.
Great tips Man. Thank you!
Love the videos nigel , always good advice. thank for the upload Buddy
Great video, very helpful! Thanks a lot 👏
Concise and helpful.
Nigel, you are the best. Thank you so much for sharing these 3 lighting techniques. Cheers!
Thank you for such simple and easy ways to make our videos look good without spend a arm and a leg those are great tips . Look forward for your videos
Cheers!
Just got the ml 60 light and softbox, this came in a great time!
You are amazing Man!
Man, thank you so much. ’m struggling to get nice lighting in my video for a long time. Hope your advice will help me. You are one of the best in UA-cam. Thanks again
I've really been enjoying these lighting videos Nigel. Thank you!
Thank Ian! glad you enjoy em!
Very good lightning tips for the filmmaker community Nigel👏 good lightning is one of my biggest problems 🙈 best cinematic greetings from germany
As a beginner i want to start my camera seen..and i am looking for xt3 which is in my budget....is there any way that you can review it 😀
Nice thumbnail 🎉
What filters you have on while shooting this b roll at 19sec ?
For me recently I've been trying to create "insert shots" with great lighting and framing.. Grate video Nigel we should collaborate if you're ever in Austin hit me up!!
I'm just getting started shooting cooking/food but would like to have a more cinematic look than full-on bright operating room look. Do you think I could get by with the Godox SL60 that you linked to, or should I bite the bullet and splurge for the ML30? Love all of your work and really appreciate your input. Thanks!
I think the SL60W would do just fine, the only benefit the ML series has is the compact size!
@@NigelBarros Thanks so much. Ordering now!
Thanks Nigel - very good and practical skills. Thanks for sharing. By the way - do you still shoot with Olympus? :)
thanks! yes I'm still rocking my E-m1 II 👍🏽
@@NigelBarros It's incredible how are able to push such nice colors from it. Their OM-log is so much confusing for me...
@@edgardodj yeah OM-log and flat can get REALLY frustrating to correct and grade, if you're starting out, natural with sharpness and contrast turned down is a lot easier to work with
What's the difference between Godox's ML & SL series? SL-60 is much cheaper than ML-30, can I use that instead?
Yes very good maybe I won't get that godox 60w after all and try this method with a Godox ml130
yeah the little ML series lights are some of my favorites!
I hope that one day I’ll be able to see Nigel in full frame video. This cropped sensor is so tiny, feels almost claustrophobic.
Naw its not the sensor its just my small apartment haha
That shot in the room where you were reading on the bed(no homo) could have easily been a scene from a movie, ever considered making one before?
haha thanks man, I don't have any intrest in a full length movie but maybe a short doc at some point
@@NigelBarros That's what I meant too: a short movie, they're the best. Anyways, have a great day.
