"Mad Max" in this case is not Max Rockatansky from the movies. It is Max Gordon, Robby Gordon's son. They race off-road and in RG's Stadium Super Truck series. The decals on the body are consistent with Gordon's sponsors.
Love mine. Got 12mm hex wheels and adapters. Holes in tires, and gluing them, really helps stability. Shocks were empty on arrival. Everyone that sees it can’t believe how small and fast it is. I’m going to fix a wheelie bar onto the back as it keeps flipping over.
What cst oil is best to use for the shocks, just ordered this car

Funny, when I was listening to that part, just before you said M&M/Smarties, I thought the same thing!
Dulux paint came with a can of jelly beans that looks just like the paint job. Maybe they were inspired by that can of jelly beans.
Kinda reminds me of the 184 something something. The blue one that came out early this yr?? The real cheapo one that everyone hated. Anyway, great review like always.

Dave, I have to agree with you, I think anyone of us can build a very sweet super quick brushless A959-B if we spend the same money on a full brushless setup, chassis and suspension upgrades for it.
Yes you can make a very fast A959B by going with a brushless setup yourself
I got mine 2 days ago. Personally I love it. For 125 I can't complain. It takes a few minutes to get used to the squirrel action it has. With proper tires this thing would be a drifting beast. Mine has a slight cog like noise before take off but it doesn't fail to punch it. Reverse is turtle slow on mine so maybe my esc is goofy. All together it's definitely one to get if you enjoy the wltoys line. I plan to put arrma 3s electronics in mine to see what happens.
After changing the esc to a 45A and being able to actually test it out properly for the first time today, it definitely performs well and is very fast on both 2s and 3s, that video will be up tomorrow 👍

I frequent your channel and saw you did one too. I really enjoy the wltoys line. They remind me of the old school buggys from when I was growing up.
using a flashy body is somewhat like a real racing sponsored car. they always use bright bold color schemes to grab your attention. its always good to have some different choices for people. wltoys are trying guys! I love my 104009 truck its not the fastest thing but drives smooth in the dirt love it. great video man! love this channel

How much would it be to just build one like this yourself with the A959-B as your starting point? The A-959-A is definitely on my wish list as my second hobby grade beginner RC car, and I have all these 550 brushed sport motors lying around looking for a home.
I actually love the color. That’s the main reason I got it.🙂
Just because YOU got a dud, doesn`t mean it`s a bad model, you`re the only one I`ve seen get a lemon, and that can happen with any brand.

Great videos, keep them coming. May I ask did you hear the diffs? As I had a strange incident with my greasing where I found washers in odd places? Could you remember whether there was tiny washers inside the diff, on mine on the back I had 1 small washer behind every asteroid gear and on front was odd like 2 on one 2 on another? Cheers
Tbh I haven't opened up the diff's on mine yet, I only added oil to the shocks. Thanks for watching👍

price at the moment seems very high too me, $200+aud
The jelly bean colour scheme is a bit much, but I'd mask off just the lower edges, then paint the rest black. I think black with flashes of the colour would look good.
I recon due to it having a 144001 style chassis it might make 1/18 speed runs more easily doable with this 😁

I had someone tell me in a comment on John Robinson video that they had to make two molds for this car and that's why it's so expensive and have you seen the price on Ally X it's 169.99 for One battery

Yeah that body shell is a bit unique to say the least. Definitely a bit childish looking. I much prefer the green body on the brushed version. That really stinks though that your ESC is defective. At least the ESC and RX are separate so it wouldn't be very difficult to swap it out for one of those small no-name blue ones that are dirt cheap. As you said, this buggy is difficult to recommend at that price given its small size and looks though the ESC issue isn't likely to be a common problem so anyone thinking about purchasing this buggy shouldn't be too worried about that. I've never seen a defective ESC act like the battery is going dead. That is so strange. Good honest review as always Dave!!

Hey Dave! I’m fine with the way it looks! I’ve seen other videos that had better luck with their esc. That sucks, really sorry to see yours didn’t work correctly. However I am turned off by the price of this right off the bat. Should be a $120 car at the max and even then that might be slightly pushing it. Still a great video brother. Thank you for posting it!
I think the body design doesn't suit the MAD MAX name at all and makes it look like a kids toy 😆 but that's my personal opinion considering the brushed one that was not released looked totally different, also im not liking the over pricing on this one either even if it had no issues and ran great. Hey Dave I agree the body shell is not very appealing. Why doesn’t it surprise me that this model has issues. I really question wltoys quality control and if they know of a problem it seems like they will continue to use the defective parts until they run out of stock

As you know Dave sometimes you get a dud and you just have to deal with it. I know that you already have spare parts laying around and it will be fixed very soon. Looking forward to the next run.

These are press fit on the swing arms like the older a959 so the 144 shocks won’t be an easy fit Kris

No not yet I need to I even got the program card. I was thinking it was stuck in the lithium ion setting on the esc.
I actually bought a aftermarket esc for the WLT 1/10 one they have. I pulled the stock stuff out and put a goolrc system in it for $40. That is where the problem started that esc was doing it. Fully charged pack and it acted like the pack was dead. I guess you get what you paid for huh. I'm going to put a good system in my WL toys car. Soon

Hello Luis, yes i swapped out the faulty esc and used my own 45A and done some speed testing in my follow up video a few days after this initial video 👍

By the wltoys a959 1/18 basically the same thing but cheaper. Can't believe they're pushing the limits on how many times you can resize one car, and mess it up sooo badly.
That seems like a trend with Wltoys though, use the same shell or chassis and release a brushed version first then brushless, in this case the brushed version i shown in this video hasnt even been released. cheers for watching mate
Great vid dave. Not sure about the body on this one and shame about the ESC. They need to keep improving their vehicles especially at this price point otherwise people will turn to second hand well known branded over these cheap ones. Can't help but think they are pricing themselves out of the market 😕
Yeah I’m not impressed with the constant price rise on these new WLtoys RC models they are releasing these days, they definitely need to look at their pricing otherwise they will price themselves out of the market eventually, also they need to do much better QC because this one slipped through, lucky I am a reviewer and not an unhappy paying customer hey?

They came without oil on the shocks but they are fun... style and price not that good... nice vid 👍
There is a very small amount of oil in the rear shocks cause I opened em up today and topped em right up, hardly any in there at all. Thanks for watching 👍

This buggy looks as if it were made for his 4 year old, painted by a 4 year old, but priced for the man himself. Wouldn't have been that hard for them to make sure the car actually runs- especially since they knew you were going to review it. The companies need to realize that THEY don't sell the cars!- Perth West reviews do‼️👍👍🦾🦾 still another great video even though mad max Jr. was a dud!!
Cheers mate, can only be honest in what I have received, the price doesn’t sit well with me, especially when you convert to Aussie $$$ seems like wltoys cars are continually getting more expensive as they release all these new models. I will retest it with another esc but I don’t think it’s gonna sway my opinion of this one that much even if it performed well today. 👍
Is it set to lipo mode
of course, this is a Lipo compatible esc from the factory, it was just a faulty esc so replaced it with one of my own and it nearly hit 100kph in my speed test video

They might be using the 3500kv motors from the V1 12xxxx series, I can imagine them having a ton of them in stock & they've decided to use them up in this because it's lighter weight & less prone to cogging..

Yep i did get a lemon, which i did say in this video, soon fixed it with one of my own esc and ran over 90kph, But..... i am not gonna recommend a product when it arrives the way it did, otherwise that's pretty much being a SHILL isn't it! Can only review what I have been given. Cheers for watching

Fronts have oil for sure but the rear is questionable if there is any at all, haven’t bothered to check yet since I filmed this video yesterday, have other videos to edit and put out 😂
@@PERTHWESTOZRC funny, i just watched tomley's video on this car. His had no oil in the front or rear. He just put some in and it was great. Seems unintentional, I don't see how they expect random people buying a RTR video to just have shock oil laying around.
It's a no from me. I posted a pre-release review and can confirm it's a 3400kv motor just like you suspected, old stocks!
