So there are quite a few people who are commenting about having or not having or needing or not needing the 4way plug. First, the 4way harness is still extremely common on most trailers under 4,000lbs GVWR and Boat trailers. Second, if you have the Tow Package on new GM trucks but Not the trailer technology package, you get the 4way above the 7way plug on the same plug (the 2023 Chevy Trail Boss I'm reviewing has it). If you opt for the technology package you no longer have the 4way plug over the 7way, instead you get the camera ports. Hope this helps folks who are viewing the video.
You have a 4 pin. It is located in the bed. Several people switch the position of the two. Move the one with the camera ports to the bed and the one with 4 pins to the bumper. You will need fakra extension cables to use the camera connections.
Quite frankly, I prefer the 7way connection anyway. The spring that holds down the doors to keep the connections clean is pretty strong and I feel that over time would damage the trailer wiring of the 4 way.
I agree with Jac. My truck has a four pin connector and I use the adapter to plug it into the seven pin connector anyways because I do not like the pressure the door and the spring put on four pin connector where the seven pin connector is designed to have the door and spring pushing down on it.
WOW, you're right! I just checked on my 2022 AT4 3/4 Ton and it looks the same; 7 pin and 2 cameras to the left of the rear licence plate. I have the 5th wheel factory bed setup, and it DOES have the 4 pin above the 7 pin inside the truck bed. Good thing I didn't need to help my Dad with his trailer and 4 pin connector before watching this.
Great video! I laughed when you mentioned the MPG towing, other full size trucks would be happy to see 18.6mpg average under normal driving conditions, let alone while towing hahaha gotta love the new LZ0 - hopefully that'll be my next new truck!
5:26 Your safety chains are pertnear dragging the ground. In the western states, the highway departments always put out huge PSAs, even lighting up messages on the highway reader boards to encourage people to connect their chains in such a way that they won't drag the ground, so they don't create sparks, and possibly lighting a wildfire along a highway. Fires have been caused from this.
I have a Chevy 3500HD I keep my adapter in the truck. It Didn't come with the adapter. FYI Your new truck won't operate Furrion backup camera. Chevy changed how they supply the power to running lights. Etrailer sells 2 different adapters to fix that. I chose the hardwired version for my TT.
My 22 f350 had the 7 and 4 pin. I ordered it with the trailer tpms and camera. I had to change the plug in the bumper to a 7 pin and 12 pin. The kit came with the 7 to 4 adapter.
Just be happy that the 7 pin can convert to the 4. Its finally convienant that peeps have standardized those plugs. 30 years ago, there was no common in any of them
My 2021 RAM 3500 has a camera hookup and is also missing the 4 way. I was a little bummed out after ordering and taking delivery that it was lacking that. had I known I probably wouldn't have gotten the trailer camera package. love your videos BTW, keep up the good work!
Yep, ran into the same situation on a friends Tahoe that also did not have a 4 way and wanted to borrow my light trailer with 4 pin harness. Now he has the adapter but it was an inconvenience. They also don’t supply a 12V power socket in the back of the SUV either. It would be nice if GM just included the 4 way adapter or for so little cost added one in the rear bumper.
Same situation with my 2019 F250 Super Duty. When I had the Ford option rear camera for the camper they only have trailer camera connector and 7 way so I had to carry an adapter. (I have since gone to wireless backup and side view cameras on the 5th wheel so switched the plug back to 7way and 4way)
After many years of driving Chevy/GMC trucks and SUVs, I have not seen a 4way plug since the 90s which would just dangle under the truck. My 03 2500hd, 06 Yukon XL, 2015 2500hd, 2019 Yukon XL, and 2021 2500hd all only have the 7pin connectors and have always had to use adapters up until recently when I have moved to changing out the trailer connectors to 7pins vs running adapters. Love my 2015 F150 due to it having both connectors! What a novel concept, haha. Love the videos!
My 2500 Sierra AT4 has it in the bed. I assume it's because of the fifth wheel connections in the bed. But I also have the camera connections above the 7pin
I noticed it in some of TFL's coverage, where GM just doesn't include a 4way connector in the newer trucks, ever since they started including a second camera connector. Previously they had the camera connector in the void spot on the opposite site of the plate mount, and had the 4way with the 7pin, now they just don't bother with the 4way. Though even in the mid 2000s, they didn't have them either, my dad had to use a 7pin to 4way connector when towing with his work truck. As he prefers 4way connectors for his light duty trailers, even the boat trailer is 4way. Luckily he's had 2 Ram 1500s since 2017 (a 2009 Laramie and now a 2017 Sport) and both have the combination 4way and 7pin connectors and loves the Rams for their ability to tow, haul and be relatively reliable.
K2x body style trucks had the 4 pin and 7 pin. GMT900 had an adapter included since that era truck only had a 7 pin. Current gen trucks are missing the 4 pin if they have the trailering camera package.
Our family has a 2008 suburban 2500 and it is also lacking the 4 pin connector. It's only ever been an issue when hooking up a new trailer and leaving the adapter on the old trailer or forgetting the extra in the garage.
My 2022 3500HD has a second 7 way in the bed and a 4 way in the bed. It's basically useless in there. I plan to swap the plugs to get the 4 way in the bumper and the camera connections in the bed as I don't need them in the bumper anyway since I tow a 5thwheel with the camera on it.
I wish I could make the turn signal camera view turn on without a trailer sometimes. All our trailers have brakes, so I haven't thought about it. I have a 22' Refreshed 6.2l Trail Boss with the camera system, I'll have to throw in an adapter just in case. My main trailer is a 7x12 Tandem axle that pulls like a dream.
18 MPG Is GREAT! I have a 08 Silverado 1500 crew cab with 241,000 mile and a 5.3 liter flex fuel Multiple Displacement Engine and a 4l60e trans With The G80 rear axle with 3:42 gears . I also have a Topper on the truck as well. I'm pulling a 18 foot enclosed tandem Trailer weighing 2600 lb with 220 lbs of tongue weight with the trailer loaded equally, My best I've ever got is 8.1 mpg while towing. The worst I have ever got was 6.3 mpg That's running in windy conditions. I will say I'm never lacking power.18 mpg I can only wish pulling any Trl. I will add, with the truck mt I can get anywhere between 16 and 21 mpg depending the speed I run the truck and weather conditions. I'm always running the truck in Tow Mode when Towing Anything.
Love my Phoenix 4500 tongue jack on my TT. Your video was the reason I got it. On the 4-way plug, to my knowledge, GM hasn't had them on vehicles for a while now. The wife's old 16 Suburban did not have a 4 way, just the 7 way. I prefer the 7-way plug on all trailers as it is, so everything I own has a 7-way plug.
I have a 2020 Duramax 3500HD. The 4 way connection is in the bed of my truck. Right next to the other 7 pin for my fifth wheel. I think the camera connections should be in the bed and the 4 way at the bumper.
Yup my wife’s 2010 LX570 only has a 7 pin connector, no 4 pin. I also had to purchase an adapter for whenever I need to use my utility trailer. Not a big deal but kind of odd that they didn’t just add one from factory
I have a 2020 Sierra SLT 1500 with NXT Max tow pkg and no 4 way plug. Need to use adapter. Maybe only the 2500/3500 have them in the bed, due to the fact that they are more likely to tow 5th wheel even though you never would use it for that application.
I had a 2020 3500 high country and to your question the 4 pin was in the bed of the truck where I plugged my fifth wheel into i don’t understand why that was decided my gm to make that change
Yes I just got the same truck and no 4 way connection humm I love the truck but GM ? what happened I had to go buy a hopkins adapter with the extended cord because trailer has short cord ready one day for towing not yep truck is in break in period I guess it's 5 k not shure .but any way something was missed a popular plug the 4 way connection?????
2014+ 1500s and 2015+ HD trucks had a 4 pin and 7 pin, but when GM added the camera ports, they deleted the 4 pin outlet. I know that on the previous gen GM trucks, the GMT900 body style, a 4 way to 7 way adapter was always included. Looks like GM stopped doesn't include an adapter on these new trucks with camera ports.
@bigtruckbigrv The 4 way connector on those trucks is in the bed driver side right where the tailgate closes, on top of the 7 pin gooseneck/fifthwheel connection.
I traded my 2018 sierra for this same truck. It was the first thing I noticed. My 2018 had the four way connector my 2023 does not. Could not figure out why.
Just reading thru your responses to some of the comments is very entertaining. In one you reference going to pick up a trailer and not having the adaptor so along those lines you made no mention of a ball mount not being provided. Anyone who has one of these would know they needed a ball mount and a adaptor .Why becouse they would have checked. And according to my dealer it should be in your glovebox. Unless your dealer forgot to include it. Also you missed a opportunity to direct people to your sponsor to buy one if needed. Almost a vailed excuse to bash GM.
4 way connectors have been a part of trucks for decades. Hitches have not. You know you need to add a hitch. You never had needed to have an adapter from 7 way to 4 way (or at least not on any truck I've owned previously). Your comment seams to be an excuse to defend GM
@@BTBRVReviews Most people would check before leaving to pick up a trailer for the electrical connector just like the ball mount. And again according to my dealer the adaptor is included in the trucks with the camera package. But bottom line it is your channel spin it however you want. We get it it is not a ford !!!!
Lots of interesting comments I know I need my reciver bar I have the Bw stow n go but when you but a denali it should be wired for it .lots say get an adapter I did twice bought the truck and then more $$ for the adapter more out of pocket $$$
I wish I had an answer for your four way connection. I do have a question. What kind of camera do you use when driving and how is it mounted? The stability is excellent. Also, do you use a wireless mic to record?
A "major towing requirement" would lie along the lines of a receiver, leaf spring, or shock. I have the same truck and - like everyone else - a vast collection of pigtails, adapters, and splitters. "Missing" a 4-way plug doesn't even rise to "minor" concern.
I own a F-150 2021 and it has no more 4 way connector on it too. Ford provides an adaptor with the truck. Very cheap. The truck has this auxiliary camera connector on it. Look, i paid $74310.00 CA. Can't believe that i have to use an adaptor.
you should do something with these little crossovers that claim they can tow 6200lbs like my v6 jeep grand cherokee. I have a 6x12 enclosed. Havent done anything with it but tow it home. 1000lbs empty and struggling. cant get it out of 5th gear. (8speed).
Cut the shitty 4 way off and put a decent 7 round on it. I always add reverse lights to any trailer I own so the 7 round is required. Keep a $10 adapter for your friends trailer. Maybe GM could include an adapter with the truck like they used to. The camera system is a much better use of the space.
People at GM are doing some interesting things like these lately. Like the new Colorado without headlight switches and this? What if you have mudflaps like rock tamers with lights that needs a 4pin and you're trailering with the 7 pin? I guess they haven't thought of that? Just wow the way they're doing these things that limits people's options.
I've never seen anyone put lights on their Rock Tamer flaps. If you are towing with them, the lights serve no purpose other than to create glare off the front of the trailer, becoming a distraction in the rear view camera/mirror, etc.
The missing 4 way in exchange for cameras is common now. We know manufacturers are cheap these days. Most 2 5 and 3 inch hitches no longer come with reducing sleeves. They keep raising vehicle prices but add $20 to get these little items seems to be too much to ask. Same as you only get a tiny credit of about $50 when a feature that may cost hundreds to get is not available for your build.
People freezing outside fuss over a $.99 lighter. Goodness It's not the price, it's the inconvenience when you need to tow and don't have the $9 adapter. Funny how the price keeps going down lol.
Tow a trailer that maxes out that truck and you will be amazed on how it really does both pulling it and fuel mileage Especially compared to a gas engine!!
I say convert your trailer plug to the 7way plug and always keep an adapter in the truck. The 4 way option is not a big miss in my opinion, I really don't think it's a big deal.
I'm guessing you don't tow often because if you were ever in need of that $5 accessory and you don't have it or realize that you need it you'll find yourself in a really bad spot. If you're stranded in the middle of the desert thirsty you don't have a 50-cent bottle of water isn't it similar.
Also, that adapter is $10-12.... Not much of a difference.....except 100% more expensive than you posted... But who cares about the details right? I could make a video on the difference if that would help 👍
I mean an adapter is dirt cheap and just runs in line with the wire anyways. And with how few trailers have a 4 pin anyways due to laws about trailer brakes, it's dumb to have a seperate plug
Why? If it didn't have windshield wiper blades would you knock it? Things to may not use very often aren't important until you need them and don't have them. If I took the truck to pickup a trailer out of town and didn't know I needed a 4way plug/adapter and nobody locally sold one... Well?
So there are quite a few people who are commenting about having or not having or needing or not needing the 4way plug. First, the 4way harness is still extremely common on most trailers under 4,000lbs GVWR and Boat trailers. Second, if you have the Tow Package on new GM trucks but Not the trailer technology package, you get the 4way above the 7way plug on the same plug (the 2023 Chevy Trail Boss I'm reviewing has it). Yes mine too, but I use adaptors as the 4 pin connector is a pain to use with he spring loaded cover
I have the same problem with my AT4 I have the same camera jacks
A "major towing requirement" would lie along the lines of a receiver, leaf spring, or shock. I have the same truck and - like everyone else - a vast collection of pigtails, adapters, and splitters. "Missing" a 4-way plug doesn't even rise to "minor" concern.
Always thought GM included the adapter when 4 pin wasn’t included at least that was the case with our 2002 Chevy Silverado
My 2001chevy 2500HD doesn't have a 4-way. I use adapter.
Check under the bumper. My truck has a small four pin connector under the bumper.
What truck do you have?
I think my 07 chevy 1500 and my 08 2500 never had a 4 way either. Those never had have any cameras.
My 07 didn't have a 4-way either.
I just use the 7 way adapter. I less connector to worry about.
I own a F-150 2021 and it has no more 4 way connector on it too. Ford provides an adaptor with the truck. Very cheap. The truck has this auxiliary camera connector on it. Look, i paid $74310.00 CA. Can't believe that i have to use an adaptor.
It wasn’t that long ago that trucks with trailering packages only came with 7 pin anyway.
you should do something with these little crossovers that claim they can tow 6200lbs like my v6 jeep grand cherokee.
Same as you only get a tiny credit of about $50 when a feature that may cost hundreds to get is not available for your build.
is GM still wax-coating the frames?
I just keep the adapter on my boat all the time.
My 2018 Sierra has both but I wouldn't care if I had to use an adapter.
Oh my, are we really fussing over a $7 adaptor? Goodness.
People freezing outside fuss over a $.99 lighter. Goodness
It's not the price, it's the inconvenience when you need to tow and don't have the $9 adapter. Funny how the price keeps going down lol.
My 07 Avalanche LTZ doesn’t have a 4way
Tow a trailer that maxes out that truck and you will be amazed on how it really does both pulling it and fuel mileage Especially compared to a gas engine!!
My 21 Ford f150 ecoboost has a cigarette lighter socket and came with a four way adapter....🤣
I say convert your trailer plug to the 7way plug and always keep an adapter in the truck. The 4 way option is not a big miss in my opinion, I really don't think it's a big deal.
It's not, unless it is because you're towing a trailer that needs it. Kind of like a fire extinguisher
HAVE A 2022 RAM 2500 LIMITED ALL THE TRAILERING OPTIONS, SAME THING NO 4 WAY !!!
Ford did away with the 4way on the '21+ F150 as well they just throw the adapter in the glove box.
I have owned several of these trucks and they always are delivered with a 7-4 adaptor. Might want to ask your dealer.
Me too. I found mine hiding under seat or with tire change stuff. I would contact dealer for adapter that I think they normally supply.
Gee, I wonder what the gmc manual says about this. If someone could look it up for me………
Asking for a friend.
Lights what is that. Its bad but I don't think I had lights for over 15 years.
A whole video about a missing $5 adapter. Yawns.
I feel like this is a bit dramatic trying to knock this truck for not having a 4 way connection.
Why? If it didn't have windshield wiper blades would you knock it? Things to may not use very often aren't important until you need them and don't have them. If I took the truck to pickup a trailer out of town and didn't know I needed a 4way plug/adapter and nobody locally sold one... Well?
@@BTBRVReviews Wal mart… any auto parts store…. They are cheap and almost everywhere…. non issue.
No 4 way? That's just criminal. Get rid of it now before you're forced to make more videos about it.
