We moved to Heaton Mersey in 1963 when I was 10. Priestnall school was all girls so I used to take two buses 16 and 92 to Mile End as a first year. You could get a free bus pass if you lived more than three miles away. No helicopter parenting in those days. Different times!
I left Stockport in 1989. It's a frustrating town, so much potential to have an amazing Town Centre (around the Market and Underbank). Anywhere else those locations would be super-trendy and desirable.. but it never really happened in my lifetime. Merseyway is another example... half covered..half open to the wind and rain..another "could have been". I enjoyed the video (3 of the photos are mine!!! 1:30, 5:45 & 7:05). I go back occasionally .. and take photos in the same locations, just for nostalgia, and hoping that Underbank will be full of trendy independent shops. One day perhaps.
Thanks Robert , my intrest is railways and found a booklet of Tiviot Dale and surrounding areas Portwood , Brinnington , brilliant for modeling , though i realise life was hard in these areas , is Travis Brow still there or the Hanover church ,? Thanks
Travis brow is still there to an extent, Hanover chapel long gone, check out my Facebook group Stockport photographic archive we have 100s of pics of the area, i recently posted some of tiviot dale and the platform that is still there under all the undergrowth behind the old Chapel wall.
