when ITB -> Waves GTR Stomp (tone-doubler-short delay-reverb), when OTB - Yamaha spx900 or Quadraverb. General rule for me is to EQ incoming signal and use some kind of modulation / saturation / degradation before using reverb.
I recently went to see Dream Theater at the Met in Philly and saw they had the Valhalla Super Massive plugin loaded on their FOH console. Sounded phenomenal. I myself, have created various analog presets on a cheap Behringer FX2000 that I think sound quite special when I send my tracks out to it as a hardware inserts. No official names since they are tweaks of a few of its built-in pre-programmed effects. Sounds clean, clear and really nice when you give the signal an extra push into it without clipping out like a virtual plugin can. I also have a TC Electronics unit that I also use, but it just doesn't sound as rich and full as the Behringer. Whoda thunk
These IK studio reverbs are breakthroughs. I think they are a huge deal. I have never been satisfied with convolution verbs till now. I have spaces, all liquidsonics, all waves verbs, all UAD, Altiverb, Hofa reverb 2, all Valhalla…None of them sound like Fame or Sunset. None! This reverbs are stunningly realistic! Wish I got them when they first came out. If they keep making reverbs like these, I’ll get every single one. No doubt.
I think MOSTLY it depends on the IR itself. Garbage in, garbage out. I have a few IRs the I use on several different convolution plugins, and they sound mostly the same regardless of plugin. Some convolution plugins have more or different adjustment parameters, that’s why I use several. However, I’ll admit that of ALL the hundreds of IR snapshots of different spaces, I only actually use about half a dozen in daily practice. This tells me that it must be harder to take a good snapshot than we maybe realize. Time moves on, so it’s entirely possible that IK just has better new software for running IRs. They DEFINITELY seem to have taken the time to do it right with this package AND the Sunset Sound package. In conclusion, I suspect that these tremendous IRs would sound basically the same in a different player, like IR1 or SIR2. But I could be wrong. Also, I completely agree with you that this package and the Sunset package do indeed sound WAY BETTER that nearly everything I have gotten out of previous attempts at them by any maker. *ALTIVERB needs a special mention here. It’s really expensive, CPU intensive, and their IRs have been expensive also, but I think it’s just as good. The price and CPU hit are probably why it hasn’t ended up in most music studios. 😎👍👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When you popped that organ into the room plug-in is when I said: “Ok..ok…yeah man I’m starting to dig It”. It really started to make it sound much warmer, close and alive to me. I’m listening on some ear buds right now and I feel like I’m in the room with these cats. I’ll have to demo this baby out on some 50’s/60’s type of tracks I’ve done in the past. As always, thank you Mr.Warren.
I love this reverb on this production. The reason I will eventually get it, is because I really like that there are the different positions in the room, that would have been used for the according instruments. That's the big thing about this to me, because that doesn't just give me the room, it gives me the room in the way someone, who knows the room, would have utilised it. That's hours and years of trial and error and experience. I can not compete with that. Give me the ACTUAL room to use for a recording and my lack of knowledge will not let me get close to what the emulation of the knowledge can create.
Had the FAME plugin for a while, it came as a bundle with TRS-5 and I never knew its worth, just thought of it as another reverb plugin to use once in a while, but thanks to your studio tour video and this video I'll start using it the right way.
You had me at kick drum! And when I heard the vocal in the chamber, wow, just wow! Then it was excellent that the room reverb could displace the need for strings! The Fame reverb is truly a living, breathing thing. Brilliant! I'm buying it! Thanks Warren !!!
19:20 "It's so DUMB! I LIKE IT WHEN IT'S DUMB!" haha for me, just about every great take, idea for a part, or studio experiment that ended up being in the final mix almost always starts with "let's try something dumb".
@15:20 Yes!! The look on your face when you heard it... and from here it feels like a giant hug! Amazing. I'm going to have fun with this! I have to say for the money the T-Racks 5 v2 is one monster set of great plugins! 😮
Right. OK. IK Multimedia, of Amplitube fame. I could be saying: this is useless if you use EZ Drummer / Superior Drummer for drums, but no... It's two other rooms you can put the drums in. And that's just the drums. It's like Waves Abbey Road Chambers, but FAME Chambers instead. It's a great plugin and it remindend me of all IK Multimedia plugins, so glad to see TS 3.5 Max is about 2/3 of the price TS 2.0 was and you get so much with it now, including this! Feels to me like (one of) the most underrated plugin bundle!
First of all the track is fantastic and very well produced, played and sung. Outstanding! And this plugin is delicious and I love the way it is set up. I may have to buy it. I loved your tour of the studio. I am looking forward to seeing the second part. You are knocking it out of the park this week with your content. 👍
As a mixing and recording engineer in a lil country in Africa called Botswana, The TRacks sunset studios and fame studio are in all my mixes. I must say I love them..And thanks for the tip on using the black 76 by IK on the snare. It does add some grit to it..
I am completely new to all of this. But coming from mechanical engineering I appreciate a "go by" - a version of what your designing that's already very close and you want, and you only change what's different. It really speeds things up and there no reason to redesign what's already working. So even if I could do all this already, I see high value in "templates". Being new, it also serves as encyclopedia of what to learn, with working models of how the separate parts work and work together. Astonishing!
IK has this ridiculous Total Studio Max bundle which I got years ago. I'm still going through and learning some of the products for the first time. What an incredible little gem this one is. I can't believe I have had this for years sitting there undiscovered.

What a great sounding plugin. I need to check out my IK Multimedia account and see if it’s available there (possibly at a discount 😉). As you mentioned, I would get concerned about the amount of CPU it might require when building up instances on multiple tracks, but just like I do with my analog hardware effects, one could record an individually affected track to use in the mix and then you could just disable any instance of the plugin and bring processing power back to low usage.
Hi Dave, I believe I ended up with 6 instances on my session using my 2009 Cheesegrater Mac! Haha So I'm thinking it's quite gd on most people cpu. I would everyone has 16GB of RAM these days? I'm sure it would fine on 8GB, however, 16GB is far more preferable

Once I get through about the first 3 or 4 minutes of these videos I'm off like a shot. I grab the multi's and go to work, never to reference the video again. I just love turning these songs into my own things. I use Chromaverb in Logic ritualistically. Logic's Space Designer and Delay Designer are also very very good and with WORK I could get a combo of these things sounding like FAME. But FAME has it all together right there, so there ya go.
No studio A sounds more like a redio-friendly typical kind of CLA mix and with this reverb You've got a roomy sound kind of like a mix of Albini and late great Al Schmith. Plot twist: I didn't like that reverb on drums in solo but it sits in the mix right, and that's how You should finally chceck the song, right? BTW: On my latest live mixes I've used as a main source, also from T-rack, a sunset plate reverb on aux for lead voc.
Well I didn't get how the bleed is generated!? Do you have to use one instance and you could turn the knob to different positions for different tracks or something?
Every demo I see of this type of reverb I feel like people have the reverb levels way higher than you would really use. I’m sure it’s just exaggerating so it’s obvious to hear.
Hi Warren, since you know both the Fame and Sunset Sound Studios reverb plugins as well as anyone, and if on a budget, and you had to pick only one, which would it be? If you have a minute to give reasons that would be great. Obviously, they aren't the same, but I imagine they would be very similar. - Thanks, Dave
Counter point to Warren saying things weren’t “more dynamic” back in the day. One sense in which you are incorrect is this, and it’s really critical because I think this is what people mean. Masters were more dynamic. The loudness war in mastering destroys the dynamics of peoples mixes and productions. Even if you use tape and tubes and distortion on individual tracks or lots of compression. The overlimiting of masters is destroying digital releases. This is why Vinyl often sounds better still, because vinyls masters have to be more dynamic due to the physical limitations of cutting vinyl.
Are you using this on a send or are you inserting this on the group/ track output (group in the case of whole drum kit for example, track on kick and snare instances). I just got this reverb on their bundle deal and used it on subgroups in this way after seeing this video, but without the dry signal blended in it sounds very different. With the dry signal blended in I’m getting a lot of phase issues. I’m going to try it on sends for each today to see if my own question is answered, but any insight is helpful. I haven’t used protools in a while so I was trying to follow your routing from screenshots but couldn’t really tell whether the busses you have set up are aux sends or subgroup busses. Great video, thanks for sparking an idea.
Sounds fantstic - just like their Sunset Sound rooms (BTW approx same can be judiciously done with that one, too) and chambers/plates/spring. IK Multimedia are really on a whole new level with these emulations, pretty unmatched, even better than the UAD, IMHO. 👌👍 Now... wish there was a pot in the GUI to turn down the volume of their emails, announcements, ads and spamming in our inboxes... 🤦🏻♂️😉 2 side notes: -is there a sample added on that snare? Seems to have a bit of a tail, which skews the effect of the Fame room... -As a native Italian speaker, I cringe every time you pronounce Steve's surname - it's not Maggora, it's Maggiora, pronounced with a double "J" sound (as in Marjorie)... check with his family, eh eh. Oh and "maggiorare" means "to make bigger", so it's a name pretty well suited to reverb! 😉😉🤠
Hi Allen, you are obviously talking archetypes only as there were many, many albums in the '80s that were recorded in exactly the same way as the recordings at FAME.
Not only that, but what’s wrong with different flavors? Some material sounds great with a digital 80’s sound. Others need a more natural reverb like this. Others, bone dry. There is no one size fits all
I have the plugin but struggle when these pros recommend so many plugins. I end up so many of them and ‘ options anxiety ‘ and can’t decide what to use
No more IK Multimedia for me. I understand their plugins are (very) good, but I once installed a free plugin of them, finding my plug-in folder and my disk clogged with about 40 plugins of which of course 39 didn't work at all.
Just find the folder and delete the ones you don’t have a license for. I agree it’s a total pain and they should let you just install what you like. I’ve got about five or so plugins from them for free over the last couple of years and they are decent.
@@JayTheLane Recently they also offered free VSTs like the Mu-tron. I fell for it despite what I wrote above, but apparently they only work in Amplitube, at least you need to install the whole Amplitube. Don't they see this policy only creates aversion to their brand, not sympathy? You can only get to know them better by necessary deleting and disk space problems. Sample Tank same issue, and probably Syntronik too. Someone over there should take a marketing course. But yes, you are right, one can make the effort, and it is not about the quality.

Now... wish there was a pot in the GUI to turn down the volume of their emails, announcements, ads and spamming in our inboxes...
🤦🏻♂️😉
2 side notes:
-is there a sample added on that snare? Seems to have a bit of a tail, which skews the effect of the Fame room...
-As a native Italian speaker, I cringe every time you pronounce Steve's surname - it's not Maggora, it's Maggiora, pronounced with a double "J" sound (as in Marjorie)... check with his family, eh eh.
Oh and "maggiorare" means "to make bigger", so it's a name pretty well suited to reverb!
😉😉🤠
Awesome!!!
I guess the discount isn't good anymore.... Oh well. I was gonna buy it today.
Yes, that was 6 months ago.
😃
Thanks ever so much Audrey!
Console mix sounded nicest to me...
Thanks for sharing Killian!

Happy First on Friday!

I actually like the 80s sound better. I never understood why you would want to go back to a 60's sound. The more processed sound is better.
There is no one size fits all
The original one have better lowend but less ambience so hmm
mil mil mil
On a lot of metal songs I can hear reverb on the rhythm guitars. When I try putting the guitars in a small room it sounds like crap haha. What gives?
I have the plugin but struggle when these pros recommend so many plugins. I end up so many of them and ‘ options anxiety ‘ and can’t decide what to use
Paid Infomercials. Ugh. 😢
