Expired food didn’t become a thing until the last 50 years or so. The only items that might really ‘go bad’ are dairy products and even then they could still be used.
I opened a Hershey with almonds candy bar in 1977 or so, and it had a tiny white worm in it. So, I'm thinking it was expired. It does pay to look things over. And now it seems like things are designed to go bad faster.
🍅 and cooking oil will expire or go bad if not kept in cool condition. I was RAISED on huge garden, if 🍅 aren't stored properly the jar will explode. If oil isn't stored properly it goes RANCID and can put you in the hospital. However rancid oil can be used to burn for fuel. Or lamps or grease wagon wheels. ( not for anything that might be used to harvest food)
