Chinese BR-6B Geiger Counter Review and Test

- Review and test of the Chinese BR-6B Geiger counter, which is now turning up online for less than £50, for that price it is a very good investment however it does have a limitation that it maxes out at 99.99 microsieverts which is a fairly low number for a Geiger counter, however if you are using it for low level readings this is totally fine.
In this video I compared it to the Soeks 01M to give you an idea of size scale and settings with a similar style unit.

Many rhanks for this share. Helps a lot in selection indeed.
The BR-6a is just for electromagnetic radiation, the BR-6b is for nuclear radiation and the BR-6c for both.
The only model I can find is BR-6, what does that read?
@@TaiganTundra If it is around 20 dollars it'll most likely be the BR-6a, when it is around 60 it'll probably be the BR-6b. I would at this point buy the very sleek Soex or Soeks 112, which is about as large as a pencil. It might depend on what you want to have though, the BR-6 series is good and you will have a nicely large display. The Soeks is a real brand though and isn't much more expensive. If you want certainty with the BR-6, I recommend to just ask the seller before buying it, just to be sure...
Great video. Bought for 50 a week ago but since events in Ukraine now around 100 from same supplier.
Yup, just got mine for ~100 today
Great comparison / review. There is also more of a gap between the geiger tube in the Chinese counter and it's case where the Soeks has almost no space between tube and case.
Yeah I still like this Chinese one, despite it's flaws it's great to have permanently turned on, using a USB cable on the wall.
Great video!! Thanks for the info:)
Cool videos mate, can you recommend what to buy out of the BR-6, smart lab Geiger and the Cajoe? Or any others in that price range. It’s for a SHTF situation.
Cheers
I think the ticking sound on the BR-6b responded nicely quick on the strontium, whereas the Soeks was in my opinion a bit slow acting.
Great content and evaluation, congrats!
Translating the 3 different variants print on box. BR-6a is electromagnetic detector. BR-6b is nuclear radiation detector. BR-6c is both of BR-6a and BR-6b combined.
The Soeks has an SBM20 tube which is a little more sensitive than the M4011. On 2 test sources, K and Th it read 45% and 41% higher respectively, the background readings were basically the same. The SBM20 is more sensitive to beta. Of course this is just one test and it was not done by myself. The SBM20's can be very old and a little hit and miss, the M4011's are new.
Which Geiger counter would you recommend for 100 usd max? One for personal dose measuring average that can do emf as well. Thank you for clarification about the tube am looking for one and have literally no idea.
I saw a $100 Chinese Geiger counter recently that had a measurement max of 50,000 microsievert and thought that top end wasn't high enough, 100 microsievert top end is definitely worse.
thanks bud!
Merry christmas
Merry Christmas to you
Interesting video but a bit long TBH, you could have made cuts/made some past in fast forward.... but anyway still a good comparison.
Thank-you so much for doing the review of This guy. There are alot of them on eBay at various prices. I want the soeks but it's too pricy for me at moment. To just measure ambient levels it should do the job. If 99.99 is an oh shit level, what level is the average daily ok level? As I want to purchase a Geiger, air quality metre and an EMF detector, this little guy will fit the bill.

Average hourly radiation varies around the world but for me it's normally 0.20-30 microsieverts an hour. That's like 0.1 MilliRoentgen per hour
I just Recieved my BR-6B from eBay. I had it running for about an hour while driving my car. It didn't go over .22 microsieverts and the average stayed at 13. I noticed however that the graph did not change at all over the course of the time I had the device turned on. I'm wondering if it just runs until it fills up the bar and then it stops until you reset it. Otherwise seems to be ok and it appears I have no radiation around me lol.
@@RuffKutz i also got one like 18 months ago. Used it rarely and tried it again These days. Unfortunaltely it goes havoc and displays wayyyyy to high values :(
@@burli81 I have one as well, and I have the same problem, did you found a solution ?
@@igort5418 unfortunately not and also the dealer could not help
The diference I think is just the colour of the unit. Black, White and Yellow
Cool !!!
i bought a br-9b from ali poorly packaged after it starts it counts down from 0.14 then reads 0.. it rattles.. the tube inside copper filament touching glass so like a light bulb impact can break it easy in post.. disputing now
With that strontium check source have you managed to trigger the alarm on the polish RS 70?
I got the same one, the top half came broken on the screen, I just see the very bottom
@@jan-andreasmeier5475 ye it works
Great Video. Many Thanks. How much radiation around us consider to be normal and above which values we should be concerned ?
Most places in the world is 0.10-0.25 microsieverts
Which geiger counter is better, BR-6B or BR-9B
every 3 minutes it updates
My white box BR-6B counter is not as loud as yours. Would I be right in saying that it's the microphone of your camera making it sound louder?
It could be audio normalisation but it may just be mine had a better Piezo speaker or something.
would be nice if it had data output from the usb.
But at least it has USB. So with a solar panel you could charge your powerbank which you could then use to measure radioactivity - just in case no other power is available anymore...
If you read over 99 msv you probably should run anyways
Well depends on the situation. If you arent specifically measuring something and you are reading 100 msv just holding the thing in your hand yes you should run xD
What’s a cheap British Gas mask ?
WW2 Light anti Gas respirators
where do you get feista red pottery fragment to test?
need to find something to test it .. but if open and put tube in sub i beeps too i see on another video.. normal bg radiation i read is 0.001 to 0.05 usv so 20 msv a year is normal looks like that pottery give it to you in 4 min?
From were i can buy it the White one and its working for effectd location of attacked nuclear location?
Can it run on usb powerbank only connected to usb slot, or does always need batteries ?
There is fire at nuclear power station in Ukraine what is the counters reading at ?
Were did you get your s10 gasmask and how much did it cost?
Ebay, and price depends on your country.
Can I use this Chinese geiger to detect contamination on foods from Japan??
@@yeo5811 The problem is I do not know which products are from fukushima.
@@Jero2012DIY Any sort of geiger counter DO NOT determine what isotope is WITHIN the food.
The problem with GM, if you see increased radioactivity, it could be normal or not normal, GM don't tell you that.
You will need a very expensive spectrometer, along with a lot of specific and scientific knowledge to process what you are looking at.
Damn, are people really worried about that? lol.
My dude, the rocks, the road outside your home and bananas are more radioactive than anything from Japan or Fukushima.
Hell, the entire ocean is and has been naturally radioactive for millions of years.
where do you get something radioactive? i got a cheap tester but nothing to test it on
ebay, just search for "radioactive source".
Vintage radium alarm clock
Mine is both a handy source and a my wake up alarm
so if it shows 99.99 you should run ? right ?
@Green Pudding thanx for info :)
Any idea why is the geiger tube wrapped with heat shrink?
To block UV light from getting in and messing with the reading
@@Weaponsandstuff93 Ohh! Which wavelength of UV will that be?
Nice old radiation source made in Poland.
I have one of those and really hate it. The plastic enclosure, buttons and user interface feels super cheap and half-baked. Especially the startup screen is a total joke and zero care is done in any design quality on this product.
Really interesting thank you... Now a quick question. Is there a unit you can plug in your phone by chance
