Can the the barrel and mainspring on the 4992B be replaced without taking the movement out of the case? I have a pocket watch from another maker where that can be done.

I have never tried it with this particular model. I know some 18 size pocket watches you can do it with, however, with this model you might have to fully take out the screw that releases the stem and that could case more problems which would eventually lead you to remove the movement from the case.

Hello ! How do you know the mainspring's broken ? I just got myself an old pocketwatch and wanted to repair it but I'm in little trouble now. Could you please help me ?

There are a few ways to tell. 1 is if there is no resistance and it just winds and never stops. Another way, is if it has low amplitude and sluggish balance wheel. However, there are more factors, magnetized, dirty, bent pivot. If you are unsure the best thing to do is take it to a local watchmaker to look at it.

@@JoeZaccardelli okay thx, I'll just try to clean and oil it myself. Because now there's really low amplitude, a balance wheel that's wobbling a little bit and even if the mainspring's wound up it wouldn't run for long before it stops. Fun thing is that it runs pretty well without the hands, I suspect it doesn't have the power to move them. Hope to here back from you and sorry for my english I'm just a French boy

If it is wobbling it is not true, or a bent, broke balance pivot. Hands won't slow it down unless they are pushed down to far or rubbing together.

@@JoeZaccardelli Okay, so I'm wondering why my watch is running without hands and not with hands. In any case I think I'll need to change the balance spring because it's bent or the balance entirely. But I have a problem, I don't know the movement reference (It's a cylinder escapment movement from 1900 or before and it has Aurore engraved), could you help me with this ? I can provide pictures, videos etc if you give me an email adress and if you want to, obviously. And a little thing more, I don't think the mainspring's broken because it winds well, good resistance and the wheels turn great without balance.
      Best regards

Those without references are tough. You can look on ebay and try to find one that is the same mm and look. That is the best I could suggest on that, for you. Outside of making it or having extra parts on hand.

What if you're not lucky enough to get the T-end into the groove the first time?
