I can listen to Chris over and over again and still CRY and get goosebumps every time. That’s RAW REAL talent.
One of the things I love about Chris is his original music-so far each has had an enjoyable texture and ear-catching hook combined with lyrics that stand on their own, and the dynamics of his voice adds so much more than is on the page. As a songwriter I know how difficult that is, it separates the amateurs from the masters. This is talent. And Queen Latifah’s comments, amen to that.

I think the difference between the judges might be that the three lovely ladies in the middle are musicians who deeply appreciate the proscess and hard work that goes into becoming an honed artist creating originals of Klaffords quality, while the two gentlemen are businessmen and entertainment critics. Simon and Howie are looking for something that can hit the charts, hard! Revealing several originals in a row is probably suicide from any managers perspective but Chris is trying to honestly express himself, and Julianne, Gabrielle and Dana seems to recognize and respect that. Plus.... I've rarely seen an artist not wanting to witness something raw and original.
Chris you have a gift, when I hear you sing I am a happy man.

When Howie told Chris that his first song hit the roof and that this one wouldn't,was not just a hurtful thing to say but it was tacky and unprofessional.I like it when artists sing original songs because I get tired of hearing the same recorded ones sung over and over again on this show.

Ok, first of all i don't follow the show that well...but...i have seen most "good" musicians from AGT over the years and...usually the judges get really really hyped. This time some of them (ie. Simon and Howie) knew who he was before he performed, Chris got a special invitation to the show. Usually the judges (yet again Simon and Howie) are really hyped about unknows artists, but not this time. I honestly think it is because they know he is most likely going to win the show, and they try to make it look like they are all sceptical.
Compare Chris with Kodi Lee for instance. Sure, Kodi is charming and so on but seriously...his strength lies in his emotion and interpretations of the songs. His voice isn't imho not that good, yeah it is "good" but he won't sell any records, or sell out any shows etc. Same thing with originality, Kodi performs songs that has been covered zillions of times. It isn't unique in any way. It is at most charming.
Chris on the other hand has a fantastic voice and he also emote people, and most important is that he writes his own songs. That is what makes an artist. Therefore i find it hard to see any other competitors threatening Chris. It feels kind of obvious that is why Simon and Howie are sceptical and are trying to tone it down. They have a show to think of, they can't make it too obvious.

I love his original music and it shows how much talent and style he has. But I do agree on one thing that Howie said and that is if he will include some popular covers in his perfomances, I believe he will get even more votes. Again, for men, I LOVE WHATEVER CHRIS SINGS, but if you want to actually win this competition, I think you have to understand what America really wants to hear as a WHOLE. The fans can relate and get into the music more if they hear some of the music they follow more closely.

Everyone has their own opinion, and as a judge, Howie is just giving his honest opinion. It’s better to be upfront than be a suck up.
It’s his job as a judge, not a fan.
Tons of people write 'originals', and tons of people can write good and even very good songs, but very few can write Great!! songs, that is why people love covers, because covers of great songs are done and people recognize those songs. Unfortunately, when one tries to do an 'original' ( I use original in quotes b/c even though people write songs usually there really is not an original sound but more a mix of sounding like other musicians) people dont know it, and unless it is something extraordinary it wont have the same impact. Kris is a great singer and good musician, but I have to agree with Simon and Howie on this one, the song is good, but it is not a Great song, I wont remember the melody in an hour, it sounds like a typical coffee house song. Great songs with great melodies stick with you always, even if you hate the song, for example that garbage cell phone song by Drake, it is a horrible song but I can sing you the melody cause at least it is memorable.

Howie isn't BEING weird, Howie IS weird. Weirdness personified. Though I have to wonder if there isn't a bit of the jealousy of an old man seeing the young fella at the top of his game. Seen any of Howie's standup lately? Actually, I think each judge on the show should get up and perform once per month, see if they get voted off the island.

One of his originals he sung was when he sang a final song for his grandmother at her funeral. I really respect the fact that he didn’t even tell the story and just sang the song instead.

I don’t get why howie wants him to do covers... he’s an artist he makes his own music, writes his own songs. I loved his audition and I loved all his own songs. Like queen latifah said.. it takes guts to put your own songs out there because people aren’t going to know it and might not like it but his lyrics are awesome and his voice is even better

First Simon says it would be a risk to not do an original song. Now he says that he must go back to covers. Make up your minds already! Anyway, it doesn't matter what Chris sings, he is a star and he can sing and write anything!
The fix was in against Chris by Simon and Howie, They were even conferring with each other while Chris was performing. Simon has his little pet favorites and Howie most often looks down the desk to see what Simon's reaction is and then usually goes along with it. That routine is getting old real fast and for me, it's turning me off from watching. When it's time for the fans to vote at seasons end, the panel should just shut up and let the audience and the voting fans decide who THEY want to move forward, not a contrived couple of judges.

I have been listening to everything I can find by Chris and still haven't been able to get enough. This is one of his best efforts yet. It has so much emotion and lyrical meaning, it draws tears every time I hear it. I am now totally convinced that Howard and Simon have put the FIX in for some other lackluster wannabe talent! They obviously haven't been listening to these original pieces with their ears and hearts open to the message it conveys. Chris is one of the most talented singer-songwriters I have had the ultimate pleasure of listening to in a very long time. Probably since John Lennon, Simon and Garfunkel, Judy Collins, Johnny Cash, John Denver... I don't know! He is definitely up there with the absolute best!!!

I thought it was a pretty damn good song. I won’t say the guys weren’t wrong about it being a bad strategy, because I haven’t ever really thought of strategy in these competitions, I just want to hear their voice and the music. That part is phenomenal. I’d love to see this guy in concert. Now, will people connect more and vote more with Lennon, Celine, and Sam Smith? Yeah, probably, but I don’t know that for sure. This guy is pretty good. He and his music has a shot, and that should be impressive to anyone that he can run in a pack with those people’s music.
