- Robert Schumann - Piano Sonata No. 1 in F-sharp minor, Op. 11, "Grosse Sonate"
Piano: Maurizio Pollini
0:00 - Introduzione: Un poco Adagio - Allegro vivace
12:04 - Aria
15:13 - Scherzo: Allegrissimo - intermezzo: Lento
20:25 - Finale: Allegro, un poco maestoso
RIP Maurizio Pollini one of the best pianists to ever live
It was performed at the peak of Pollini's piano performing career and is also the best version of the piece.
After the first 9 notes you know this will be majestic
Merci infiniment.
Fabulous ..the best sonata by the best pianist
Topissim
insuperabile Pollini in questa Sonata di Schumann!!
Incredible performance, best of all
Una cavalcata fuoribonda. Un magma incandescente di suoni.
This sonata is in itself a great masterwork. This is obvious from the very first measures of the introduction, which are more than promising. Pollini shows us that he will meet this challenge as soon as these first measures. This is a masterly interpretation of this great sonata.
sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot the account password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Corey King instablaster :)
@Talon Andre i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Talon Andre it worked and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass!
@Corey King no problem xD
Grazie my best my favourite Maestro Pollini!
Wonderful, very convincing interpretation by Maestro Pollini! Grazie!
Gracias pollini !!!
Splendide
So incredible!!
Thank you. Liked this very, very much.
perfect!!!
In this particular work, Lazar Berman is worth checking out...
fabuloso!
Beautiful
will be majestic
I'm not aware of other interpretations of this piece, but I'm sure Pollini had performed better (better in the sense of my taste) than what Shumann originally intended. If Shumann had originally intented to perform this piece as what Pollini has shown, then I believe this piece should have been much more famous, somwhat as Beethoven's.
Unico
❤❤❤
The intro to the first movement, 52 measures, unique. Material does not for development until the 2nd movement. The finale, longest of the 4 movements, Rondo but really without any development.
appear for development. The last movement was also the first composed.
Yep. Also the pacing of the first movement is a bit dry, there is a pause between each repetition and each section instead of actual transitions. The development section is over bloated as well, it does too many things and loses some momentum because of it.
@@hwh1946 : Thanks for that. Didn’t know the last fact you mentioned.
Heloisa MARTINS MARQUES That's true Heloisa. A real rude behaviour.
Beautiful, powerful, appolinian! But where are the darkness and the deep instability of Schumann?
Well said: ``the darkness and the deep instability of Schumann`
Not so much in this piece.
@@hwh1946 What? I've always thought that Pollini's interpretations manage to catch the spirit of Schumann's nervousness (at 7.15, for example)
HarDiMonPetit Remember that this is a work from early in his life.

He was young

One of the better versions of this Sonata; compares favourably with Ashkenazy.

Good version but check out Lazar Berman's 1976 Moscow performance. It's a knockout !
Young Pollini was hot
Luisfernando Tapia Hot is a word you use to describe pop singers of bad quality, not a great pianist like Pollini.

troppo veloce l'introduzione.
I prefer the version of Andras Schiff.
Commanding, incisive, great clarity and definition. However he lurches and accents phrases under affected ideas about romanticism and lets his youthful demonstrative personality get the better of the music, the immaturity becoming very tiresome and silly and I had to quit two thirds through. This doesn’t approach the more even and subtle Demus in this music that isn’t architectonic but juxtapositional where ideas make static mosaics.
Nothing compared to Gilels version..
I would say Gilels is better, but Pollini is still very good. Check Pollini for Beethoven op 101 last movement
poveretto
Very not good
He doesn't understand schumann.
Fabulous ..the best sonata by the best pianist
