QS World Rankings 2023 came out on 8th June 2022, here are the top 50 unis ranked in the UK. Comment below which university you got into or your dream university in the UK.
The rankings can give you an idea of teaching quality, student population, employability factors, research and diversity, but they can’t make the choice for you. Further research is recommended to gain a bigger picture of what it’s really like to study at the university you’re interested in. Rankings don't matter much, what you make of your time there and how you utilize the resources given can determine your career path.
Rankings are given based on predecided indicators.
What do the indicators mean?
The six indicators that determine the QS World University Ranking 2023 are:
Academic reputation - Accounting for 40 per cent of the overall score, academic reputation looks at the teaching and research quality at the world’s universities. We collate over 130,000 expert opinions from the higher education space, creating the largest survey of academic opinion in the world.
Employer reputation - We know that students want to graduate with the skills and knowledge required for the employment market. We assess how institutions prepare students for successful careers, and which institutions provide the most competent, innovative, and effective graduates.
Faculty/student ratio - This indicator recognises that a high number of academics per student reduces the teaching burden and creates a more supportive student experience. We assess how institutions provide students with meaningful access to lecturers and tutors.
Citations per faculty - We measure university research quality with a citation per faculty metric, taking the total number of academic citations in papers produced by a university in a five-year period.
International student ratio & International faculty ratio - A highly international university creates a number of benefits. It demonstrates the ability to attract quality students and staff from across the world, and it implies a highly global outlook. Strong international institutions provide a multinational environment, building international sympathies and global awareness.

All Russel group universities are better than other universities, as they are respected by Employer and Foreign institutions and UK govt. Too😊
Lancaster and Loughborough are both perfectly decent non Russell Group universities but the Times and Guardian rankings into which they are placed within the top ten (or nearly so) are simply preposterous. The actual top universities in the UK are best judged by the top employers in the UK and beyond. Take a look at the High Flyers online annual rankings of the Top 20 most prestigious universities in the UK. Neither Lancaster nor Loughborough make it anywhere into the real world Top 20. Look also at the QS world graduate employability rankings. They show that Russell Group universities such as Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham and Warwick are very highly ranked indeed by national and international employers. The above six universities are placed by the High Flyers at a higher ranking than Cambridge (7) or Oxford (10). Some of the 'academic' rankings such as the latest Guardian 2023 table are grossly irresponsible and misleading to sixth formers and those seeking to join the best university that they can. The Guardian and Times rankings tables are simply at variance with the far more reality based views of major UK and international employers. See also the QS world university academic rankings which tell you straight as to which UK universities are the most respected across the world. The hard headed QS world rankings often differ greatly from the parochial snobbery which afflicts some UK university rankings. For instance universities beloved of private school applicants such as Durham and St Andrews are always in the top 10 in the Times and Guardian (which employ a great many private school educated journalists) yet are manifestly lower ranked internationally than for example Manchester, Birmingham or Leeds.

The University of St Andrews is the top university in the UK,moving ahead of Oxford and Cambridge, in the Guardian University Guide 2023 (published 24th Sept 2022)
Don't trust the guardian. Its known to be the most scam.
Literally noone agrees with you...
The only uni you could realistically argue might be better than oxbridge is imperial and that's because they are specialised and well-funded. (and they're research based as well)

That's a great question Premkumar! Both Strathclyde and Heriot-Watt are reputable options. I'd suggest looking closely at rankings for your specific program, campus life, location, costs, etc. Trust your gut on which feels like the best fit! Wishing you the best in your decision. 🤝
York should be a lot higher in UK. At least in top 15. This QS guide is nonsense for national rankings. Is good for international but not UK national

Depends on your goals. Mostly international students come to UK to do masters as they get international exposure/ visa etc. If that is not a concern for you, you can choose not to do it.

Why is Cranfield University not in list, they say it is in ranking.
Cranfield is a good uni. But as it is only a postgraduate university it doesn’t cut it on the world ranking list. But however on individual subject rankings it’s one of the highest in UK :))
