      There's nothing wrong with Renoir, they're dissing him because he's a popular artist and their debunking the trend of having unpopular opinions? I've heard this a couple times in just the last year, randomly. I hope they take this down, wtf.

Covered a lot of ground you normally wouldn’t be able to in a more artist or time period focused video. I like that it allowed you to jump around and flex that art knowledge. Maybe also things like Final Fantasy (especially 7, 10 and 15), Deus Ex and the Metal Gear Solid games. I think it would be cool if there were also recreations of the museums themselves with accurate works.
    Like for example, I live in the middle of nowhere Wyoming. The only art museum I can go to with any sort of "regularity" is the Denver Art Museum, but I'll probably never go to MOMA or the Guggenheim for decades due to the amount of money/effort/etc it'll take to go to New York, and even then it has the added bonus of not trying to rush through crowds to see a painting.
    I wonder if they'll add VR support so you can "walk around and see" things as they would be in reality too.

    Could you do a segment of trans artists in particular? I know the art establishment still very much hates trans artists and likes to hide them, but it could be really helpful. • @JP-dh1xv
      @JP-dh1xv 5 років тому +3

      artpipe TX people have used that same argument for poc and cis woman and it still falls flat. The art world is never about the art it is about the connections and what is given value. For centuries unless you weren't a cishet man and didn't draw the established styles your art was never seen. Most groups of people that aren't cishet white men has had their work devalued or whitewashed by a capitalist institution that doesn't like its power structures challenged. If trans people have difficulty with even be able to rent or find a job do to straight up discrimination in most of the states why the fuck would you think that they would be liked as in outsider in an establishment market that is barely able to finally talk about cis gay issues and historically still straight washes artists. Things are never about art. There is always politics involved. Your argument of bigotry not existing falls a part the moment you give it any thought.

    • @artpipe
      @artpipe 5 років тому +2

      @@JP-dh1xv There are two "art worlds". The one you described isn't considered relevant because of the reasons you just described. There is another world, the real art world, consisting of artists who never get the audience they may deserve and artists who never sell enough work to make a living. Some artists are lucky enough to find success but it's organic versus a fixed game. The artists of local pop-up galleries, art fairs etc. Art here isn't auction for millions. In this environment no one is singled out. The original post relayed a frustration with the "establishment". My comment was encouraging artists to sway clear of this artificial "establishment".

    Fun video! I think I'll have to try this out. Something related I would like to see in a game; would be the option to explore paint schemes on Greek and Roman sculpture, and the option to create period correct settings( e.g your own villa with art collection). As well as being a fun way for the public to explore polychromy in ancient sculpture( and maybe create some art of their own) it would aid in understanding the art as it originally existed, in homes, and temples, and stoas, rather than art galleries.

    • @theartassignment
      @theartassignment  5 років тому

      Oh I really think you could. You will probably have to build a less impressive space first, to build up to higher levels and access more materials. Then you can demolish the old to build your Rothko Chapel, or just build it as an annex.

    Great video! Did you keep playing the game? I'd love a follow up video if you did to see how your gallery turned out. The developers have added a lot of new content in the time since you've made this video.
    You mentioned that the game needs a way to upload your own art. The admins of the game are always around and regularly add art suggested by the community, although you can't directly upload it yet as they have to check that the image is copyright free and of a high enough resolution. You can also make pixel art mosaics of any painting you like.

    Hilma af Klint was obviously Illuminati inspired; considering she was inspired by spiritualism and she made a painting of a pyramid with it's tip going to the sun.
    Also, I LOVE this video game! I got to start playing this!

    This is a very interested point of the Art Assignment, videogames have come a long way to be considered art, hopefully we have more literacy that not just reaffirms they place in art but also explores their artistic merits and how it affects the art world at large.
