I had the experience of talking to Dave Gahan, about 6 years ago. I have been a fan of Depeche Mode since the “people are people “ phase. I somewhat expected he would be a typical arrogant, egotistical, snobbish “rock star” . I was absolutely wrong! Without exaggeration I can say that he is polite, down to earth, respectful, and just an absolute pleasure to talk with! I’ve been around very accomplished people and I can tell you that he is the least snobbish person I’ve ever spoken with! It’s not about the millions & the constant admiration, and the “fame”. At one point it was but he is far beyond that now. It’s about his love of music and connecting with people on that level! Dave Gahan is one of the all time best!

I feel like he wrote this song about himself, & also to himself. There was that length of time when he tried to kill himself...I didn’t know until recently, as I cut off from music 1990- 2010. And when I returned to music it was only for club music because I was too fragile to listen to anything but club music. - I am shocked to hear about Dave’s personal life struggles & I’m very glad to see he has made a safe return & finally has the happy family life he always wanted in addition to a dynamic career. Once I was depressed & suicidal, and believe it or not, “ Black Celebration” album saved my life. It was the one thing that helped me feel less alone in my suffering. I am glad I made it, too. I’m glad I stayed. ✅🙏🏽💖

За то что Дэйв поёт в живую я отвечаю ибо был на концерте в 2009 годе Tour of the Universe и в каком ужасном состоянии был тогда Дэйв. Голос срывался , то пропадал совсем но он пел в живую. На это было страшно смотреть и очень было жалко Дэйва. Тогда я думал что ему конец. Но Слава Богу он справился. Тогда концерт вытянул Мартин Гор и все остальные музыканты и их знаменитый ударник.

Выйдите на улицу и посмотрите на нищих, инвалидов, которые милостыню просят по трамваям и пр., без родных, никому неизвестные. Но они ж некрасивые, уродливые, вонючие, чего их жалеть, а Дейв другое дело: всегда хорошо одетый, в гриме, ухоженный, даже когда "трагЭдии" переживал бедняжка выглядел так, как многие у нас на праздники не выглядят - его жалеть нужно всем миром.

Always been a huge Depeche Mode fan. This I think is one of Dave Gahan's best... Such passion. Had the 'Paper Monsters' album for a while now with this song on it, but recently came across this live version and it is just amazing.

Oh, wait - eventhough I can't find words for what has happened to Daves voice - since it was really bad ifor a long time due to... we all know...
BUT: Sorry to say - the genius behind DM and all that is Martrin Gore actually!!He is the brain of DM... and lately he saved Daves life more than once... otherwise there wouldn't habve been any Dave today anymore...and during all these - for sure -hard times when Dave was not more than a wreck actually, Martin was there and believed in him... that he would re-arrange his voice after a complete breakdown...
2nd BUT ;) ; I am close to tears to see and listen to what Dave has become lately. It seems he has a totally new power and souvereignity. Not that he now (for the first time?) looks even younger than Gore, this voice was never before even by far reached by Dave before. First when he was young he missed the experience, than all the shit made him a creep - sometimes on stage more a ghost and clown of himself to be honest... I am really touched by what has happened!! RESPECT!
