My drums teacher is a huge sonic fan. I was listening to this after class before I went home, and he looked at my phone and said: "Sonic unleashed?". We then continuously vibed for the following 5 minutes and 1 second.
My dad and I gave it some thought and we came up with the idea that if we ever had a whole lot of money we would visit all the locations the levels are based off of!
i never played the full game before but i remember on summer days back when i had a 360 playing the demo of this game over and over again. the song just popped up in my head and now im here. good times.
Man, I remember my granny getting this game for me. At the time I was around 6-8. She got it for my Xbox 360. I couldn’t wait to play so once we got to her house I immediately ran to the guest bedroom (where I stayed) and quickly put the disc in. The Sega logo showed and it showed sonic walking flicking a ring in the air in some white abyss. Then the opening cutscene played Sonic chasing down egg man on a giant ship in space. 6-8 year old me couldn’t believe it. My jaw dropped. It was the most coolest thing I’ve ever seen. It was around 8-9 when I first played it. (We had been at the lake all day so you know) I remember getting to act 2 of the apostos, i think I spelled that right. It was so much fun. 6-8 year old me was never able to beat the 1st boss. I had to get my uncle to do it for me. Around 5th grade my granny had passed. I was later told I was the reason she kept living. She had lost her husband and was never the same. Currently I’m 16 almost 17. And a junior in high school. Getting the game again with money I earned from my job, I put the disc in my old Xbox 360 and immediately fell into tears. Tearing up as I’m writing this. I never knew I could have so an emotional attachment to this game. Sonic unleashed and sonic 06 (yes I’m serious) we’re large parts in my childhood. As they were given to someone special. Man, I sound like a weirdo.

I had the chance to play both games again during COVID quarantine and the nostalgia hit so different! Although I will say EggmanLand is arguably the hardest gaming experience I have ever been through lmaooo. And for the final boss I didn't initially know that the rings in super sonic form is what kept us alive LMAOOO. Ahh Good times.

Lotta people talk about the violins but.. listen very closely to that bassline; V, ii, IV, I or A, D, G, C is the main progression of the bassline. But it doesn't just play one long note, each part is very stylized and melodic, and not only that but it feels like the bassist was improvising most of the song. I love the bassline of this song.
The bass is definitely from whatever music software they were using I think the violin might be the only real instrument in the song. Maybe the guitar too.
Fun fact: on Xbox you can use Spotify while playing the game. This is useful because it mutes the in game music while still playing the sound effects. So you can play the night stages with the sound track AND the sound effects but without battle music

Tomoya Ohtani is a master of his craft. Love how he maintains intensity with D&B breakbeats. Even on the slow, evocative Sea Bottom Segue from Lost World, he backs the violins with drums to keep the song's rhythm and speed. Superb - I don't even play new Sonic games but still keep up with the soundtracks because of Ohtani and Hideki Naganuma (I was a Sonic Rush kid).

Just turned 20 on may 10th, I purchased this game when I was 6 years old, and still remember this song. I can't describe the feeling while boosting through the level and you're going so fast the music can't even keep up. Truly a masterpiece, my girlfriend likes this song too, I occasionally put it on whenever we're doing household tasks or if we're just chillin at home. I look over and see her head start nodding to the sound and it makes me feel incredible considering she was never a huge gamer growing up and has no idea where this song originated from lol.

Fun fact: on Xbox you can use Spotify while playing the game. This is useful because it mutes the in game music while still playing the sound effects. So you can play the night stages with the sound track AND the sound effects but without battle music

I’ve been looking for this game forever, I head the theme song on Instagram and I noticed it sounds very familiar, I remember hearing those sounds in a white city with a bunch of turns and different curves, I looked up the theme song that was mentioned in the bio and I’ve found myself here, sitting in tears to my childhood game I forgot about for ages.

Tomoya Ohtani is a master of his craft. Love how he maintains intensity with D&B breakbeats. Even on the slow, evocative Sea Bottom Segue from Lost World, he backs the violins with drums to keep the song's rhythm and speed. Superb - I don't even play new Sonic games but still keep up with the soundtracks because of Ohtani and Hideki Naganuma (I was a Sonic Rush kid).

The track does somewhat sound like something Kumatani would compose however, which is why I'm curious as to how you learned she was responsible for the track.

Just turned 20 on may 10th, I purchased this game when I was 6 years old, and still remember this song. I can't describe the feeling while boosting through the level and you're going so fast the music can't even keep up. Truly a masterpiece, my girlfriend likes this song too, I occasionally put it on whenever we're doing household tasks or if we're just chillin at home. I look over and see her head start nodding to the sound and it makes me feel incredible considering she was never a huge gamer growing up and has no idea where this song originated from lol.

In my opinion, this is a good Sonic game. I would play Sonic Unleashed over Sonic '06 any day.
Still... why is everyone hating on this game? It's just like everyone hating on Brawl, but only used the tripping mechanic to evaluate the argument.
Ever since 2011 Unleashed has been getting praise, and recently Werehog defense. I love it though.

This game was way better than the critic's gave it credit for.
The Werehog stages were such a slog to finish tho. They're not bad, but most people found em boring and they make up at least half the game's levels.

god, i LOVE this game.. it was literally love at first sight, right when i got it last christmas! i remember falling in love with it right at the opening, then having so much damn fun while headbopping to this during the level
