  • Here is a collection of clips showing some of the Vulcan Foundry's finest locos. The Vulcan Foundry was the home of English Electric who built many of the first generation diesels including:Class 15,20,31,37,40,50,55. The Vulcan Foundry also built many steam locos including a number of Black Five's amongst other steam locos. The Vulcan Foundry was located in Northwich and it opened in 1832 and closed in 1962.

Vulcan Foundry was actually in Newton-le-Willows and finally closed in 2002.

Thanks for sharing, I like the long intro before each loco passes, just like sitting at the railside again, with me abc in hand

indeed fine locos but the icing on the cake is that british icon royal scots grey i could have sat their all day watching your vid cam hanging out the window on her journey, the power & sound both superb , these deltics are the best loco ever to grace a railway line anywhere in the world, outstanding vid, thanks very much for your upload simply stunning

These are the good old days when we built our own diesels without interference from the continent you cannot beat the EE Diesels or Brush locomotives

The Vulcan foundry that built these locos was in newton le willows which was then Lancashire and not in Northwich chesire.the first black five that was ever made was also made there .I also had an uncle that worked there most of his life .the Vulcan site is now another housing estate but Vulcan village still remains there.

Love the EE loco footage but please fix the incorrect info - The Vulcan Foundry was in Newton-le-Willows NOT Northwich and closed in 2002 not 1962. Maybe you're dead and can't fix this so knock 3 times and we'll ask UA-cam for permission to fix this.

Brings a lump to your throat, a longing in your heart and a desire for a taste of Clag from a silver and grey Tractor as it rumbles past...
    sigh.

PLeASE tell me a lot of the 1st ones were the old big bore, slow winding Napier Deltic's. The newer ones were all right but they sounded like an airplane to me and the trail of blue smoke reminded me of a worn out Cummins. I really liked the old growlers. Thanks for a fine video!
