      @@Chanzene I’m a freshman in college. My decision to pursue medicine in the military began my junior year of high school when I learned about the HPSP program, alternatively the Nat’l Guard’s medical program, the military being the most feasible way to escape $600,000 student debt between college and medical school, and the experiences I will have in the military that would be impossible for civilians, I decided to apply for the National ROTC Scholarship and was awarded it. I’m now in ROTC and loving the path I chose. Also, my channel details my experiences from the end of high school to now.

    In singapore, as long as you're a male doctor, you're automatically a reserve military doctor and you'd have to serve 2 years as a full time military doc(mandatory) after medical school followed by 1-3 weeks of reserve training and service per year for the next 10 years. All male doctors in singapore are military doctors.

    Great video! I find it shocking the amount of money the federal government is willing to pay in entitlement programs and welfare yet they won’t give adequate funding to military doctors pay. It’s absolutely criminal that doctors that want to sacrifice and serve the country must also accept the fact they are going to be paid 1/4-1/2 of what civilian counterparts make. This is one of the few areas in government where if you increased spending, you’d actually see decent results. Not to mention the potential increased cost of if they had to draft civilian docs that make substantially more and run their own practice. The government is on the hook financially for those physicians loss of pay difference and keeping their practice from collapsing.

      Do not blame Social Security or Medicare for the short comings of the DOD. The military is well funded to pay their military doctors. Fun Fact from a military reservist: If you’re a doctor as a civilian but work as something completely different in the military, the military cannot force you to work as a doctor in the military. In fact, the military is not allowed to use your civilian qualifications at all, unless you specifically give them permission. I remember one of my leaders talking about one of his buddies, he was a surgeon in the civilian side but worked as a Master Chief Seabee(construction job) in military. If he were to be deployed, the Department of Defense cannot force him to work as a surgeon. He has to agree to those terms, otherwise he’ll be doing construction job while in uniform and that’s what he actually preferred.

      @appollo1826 2 роки тому

      @sundae You do know we have guns in the military that women can use as well. With the carry of an injured soldier, there are plenty of way to help out the wounded to compensate for the lack of strength. There women women right now in the military that are training to carry loads and get better, they will have to do the same. This why the military practice team work.

    • @themisscales5919
      @themisscales5919 2 роки тому

      @sundae firstly by your logic, if a man didn't have the physical capabilities to do those things, then they shouldn't get drafted either and so the conscription should be based on a fitness threshold. Secondly, either there is an equality of drafting laws between the sexes or men should get additional legislated rights in rest of society as compensation and since I don't believe in the latter I believe in the former. In the end you can label me a coward but I would rather stay alive than care what labels you would give me and die or even worse fight in a war that I have no say or control over. Also I can throw that statement back at you; Men who don't want to fight do not need to be in the draft, unless if you a coward and believe that others who don't want to fight should do the fighting for you

    • @themisscales5919
      @themisscales5919 2 роки тому

      @sundae you're right that conscription doesn't care about whether they'd want to be in it or not. My point about conscription as it is currently set out, is to point out that it is not a just/fair system because it targets certain people in the population and not others. It is the same as telling black people that in times of war they would be eligible to be sent to slave labor camps but letting other ethnicities choose what they want to do. Since you are violating the very freedoms you are fighting for, then the country doesn't deserve anything more than the force invading it
      But this point extends to conscription in general as well. The whole idea of conscription violates freedom of choice. It shouldn't matter what the country needs. The west is built on the idea of freedom of choice and freedom of speech. In fact this is preached as the definitive difference between countries like America, UK, Australia etc and countries like Russia/China etc. Even if the country is on the brink of collapse, it should uphold its underlying dogma.
      A country exists to serve its people not the other way. Once this ceases to be the case, there is no need for the country to exist in the first place.

      Excellent statement but I believe most people talk about issues that could affect them in the possible future and or things that the media want to make popular. If the media say nothing about this, then most Americans will not care. It will be out of sight and out of mind.

      this is why pre-meds have no clue about international affairs and geopolitics. The USA HAS special operations units fighting in Syria RIGHT at THIS moment, becuase Syria has been balkanized after the color revolution that failed to topple Bashar Al-Assad in 2011, hence the Syrian Civil War, where we support the FSA, and Russia supports Assad.

    We need to make sure 18 year old girls MUST sign up for the draft. Women do not get to vote and send men to war and sit on the sidelines and watch.
