    THANK YOU! This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm a newbie driver and I was looking all over to see if a feature like this even existed for truck GPS's. I'm about to buy my first GPS and it'll be the new Garmin OTR. Glad to know that this is a possibility with Garmin GPS's.

    How to use Easy Route Shaping on a created route
    The calculated route can be manually shaped to change its course. Adding a shaping point will allow you to customize the calculated route to take a certain road or through a certain area without adding a via point or destination to the route.
    To manually shape the route:
    Touch anywhere on the map when in an active route
    Touch
    Select a location on the map
    Allow the route time to calculate
    Touch the map again to add another location
    When you have finished shaping the route, touch Go!
    This will shape the route to the way you want it to go. You can add up to 30 shaping points to your route. You can also save the changes to your route for future use by going into Trip Planner:
    Press the Back arrow to return to the Where to? and View Map screen
    Touch the apps icon
    Touch Trip Planner
    Touch Saved Trips
    Touch My Active Route
    Touch Save
    Type the desired name for the route, then touch Done
    The custom route will now be saved as a trip in Trip Planner.

    First off, thanks for the excellent video. At first I liked my Garmin DriveSmart61, but now I don't. It is horrible at recognizing obvious places that Google Maps can find with no problem. Also Google Maps brings you to places MUCH better than Garmin does. Their routing in many cases is a joke. I have to use a GPS and not my phone because a cell phone is not allowed for use on a school bus. It's a grey issue but I'm not taking the chance. That being said, there are many things I do like about the Garmin over Google Maps. Just wished Garmin would have had better routing. As you said, you can correct major roads to change, but it won't allow getting down to some of the streets.

    • @MajorMarvin
      @MajorMarvin  5 років тому

      I appreciate your comeback driver. I agree with you and just about always use Google for my specific delivery points and deliveries. One helpful thing I found is to share places I find on Google over to my garmin. I can drop a pin on Google and navigate with my Garmin..

    • @2fast2block

      @@MajorMarvin, about the shaping, it will only do it if it's near the route it picked. With Google Maps, it will pick roads that make the route longer, but since the roads move faster, they show pretty much the same time to travel. Google Maps easily let you pick the farther route with major roads, but with the Garmin, it says something about you can't select that route.
      Since I use a Chromebook and not a computer, and can't transfer Google Maps routes over. If I had to do it over again, I would have bought a Tom Tom. Garmin just has way too many screw ups for routing. Last week I put in a major park not far from my house and the Garmin did not recognize it to find it. Pathetic.

    I'm a pilot car and all I do is use my Garmin for permits most times I have to use 60 to 70 way points, I wish they would make these new Garmin's with a better trip planner like the 2595. @MajorMarvin  3 роки тому

      What I do is drop a pin on the Google map for the entrance and share it over to the Garmin. The other thing I do is let the Garmin go with what it has but trust the Google pin on my phone for the final landing.

      @@MajorMarvin what you said last is basically what I do. I hate trusting google though considering I’m in a tractor. I’ve been lucky so far, my company sends me to the worst spots so luckily I can figure 8 a tractor trailer on a one way street, just kidding but I do, have to fold my tractor trailer like I’m gonna put it in a strippers g string frequently.
      How do you share the pin from google? I’m presuming I need to Bluetooth my phone to the Garmin & possibly download a app?

    • @MajorMarvin
      @MajorMarvin  3 роки тому

      @@iitzDiRTY I use the Garmin Drive app to share over to the Garmin.. That's on the newer model Garmins. Use the Garmin Smartphone link for the older models. Yes it connects via Bluetooth.
      You can share a route or a pin drop from Google and it appears that the Garmin will configure the route depending on your settings. It sometimes works and sometimes does not. It is not foolproof but handy when it does work properly.
      I believe in redundant systems like on a boat or airplane. I never really trust Google or Garmin completely. Technology unfortunately does not always tell the truth 😕

      I researched and found that once you shaped the route, back out, go to Trip planner in apps and save it. It will have a date as the default name, but you can name the trip anything you like. I've used this feature since and it is handy, I no longer lose my shaped routes.

    • @pinay56
      @pinay56 6 років тому

      one question on the length of the trailer, if your travel trailer is a dual axle, do you measure from the middle of the rear axle to the front of your axle of your tow vehicle to get the length?

    • @MajorMarvin
      @MajorMarvin  6 років тому

      @@pinay56 I'm not sure but I think they are looking for the overall length of the trailer and tow vehicle. Even though I'm 79 feet and 11 inches long, I set the Garmin at a more standard length of 65' feet. That's on a commercial vehicle. I don't like to give the Garmin too much dimensional info beyond legal sizes. I'm always permitted by the state when I'm running over dimensional.

    should have maps for all europe, but when I went to the tenerife which is in the European Union, this navigation is useless scrap. There is no possibility of finding even the name of the town, i.e. Costa Adeje, Playa Paraiso, santa cruz, etc. does not even allow you to enter the names of these cities, this toy does not cost 20 euros to trick people with maps all in Europe, its a scrap useless in tenerife , no matter if it works in the UK or in Germany if maps were supposed to be all over Europe, they should be all over europe, even if you managed to enter some name of the city, it is going to the mountain parlors instead of the highway, but 90 percent of cases do not have the possibility to plan the route because the navigation makes it impossible to enter the name of the city.

    • @MajorMarvin
      @MajorMarvin  5 років тому

      I understand your frustration, I have not run into that issue as of yet. I'm guessing cell signals may be poor and if your traveling also expensive. I tend to backup my Garmin routing with Google Maps but very carefully if trucking. I always have an Atlas handy or paper map. Sometimes old school is the best and or only choice.
