The Beechcraft bonanza is one of the most produced aircraft in general aviation. Since the late 40s these airplanes have been coming out of the production line of Beechcraft. Today the Bonanza model is still flying and strong amongst pilots. Just a different design as Beechcraft did away with the V-tail design many years ago.
Here are some of the performance specs of the Beechcraft Bonanza
Capacity: 4
Engine: Continental IO-520 280 HP
Range: 700 miles
Speed: 180 mph
Price: $100k - $150k

I’ve been in all types of aircraft and this being one of those. The v tail is one of the best looking and feeling aircraft I’ve been in.
I own and fly a 1962 P model Bonanza for 14 years now. Have flown Piper Comanche and Cessna 182RG and 210. All good airplanes but the Bonanza is the best flyer of the bunch. Controls are very smooth and responsive, not heavy at all. A true pilots plane. Good IFR handling. In cruise flight the fuel efficiency is great. 160-165 knots at 11.5 g/hr. Gear system very sturdy and well designed. Just remember to put it down before you land! Nice review Mojo!!
V-Tail Bonanzas have always fascinated me. My 30 years of flying light airplanes, I've never had a chance to try one of these out. Another great video, MoJoGrip!
I owned a 52 C-35. I flew it all over the country for 4 years. Twenty five years and several aircraft later, it is still my favorite.
Good recap... my dad owned two Bonanzas, an earlier V-tail, fully updated, and later an A-36 Debonair (traditional straight-tail) model... great memories from extensive flying with him... thanks for enhancing those memories Mike.
This is the plane I've been looking into getting. I'm so glad you did a video on it!
It's still my favorite plane but I had to be practical and consider the money aspect in addition to parts availability.
Was at Sun N Fun yesterday with my fiancé looking for you! Loved seeing your finished TSI in person. Great color. Cheers!
Thank you for making this video. Love the Bonanza VTail.
The V tail Bonanza is one of a few planes I’m considering buying when I finish all my ratings thanks for this video!
Its a great flighing airplane but it has a major problem with the tail falling off. The v tail is a major problem but the straight tail has it as well. My father was a part owner of a straight tail and it crashed in the gulf of Mexico do to the tail falling off. It killed two of his partners in the plane. Please don't play with that airplane. Not a good idea.
@@SVSecondChance that’s just not accurate. There isn’t a problem with structural failures. A v-tail is an amazing plane. Highly recommend
S/V second chance sailing, don't you think there would be a shortage of V tails if that was the truth ? Any plane will break up giving the wrong pilot flying too fast and making wrong maneuvers for the speed. > own a 49 and my buddy owns a 47 and a 59 . There are still thousands of these birds still flying
@@chesterbobhorn yup. Mine is a 57. He has no idea what he’s talking about 1000’s of bonanzas in the sky every day
Its amazing how people will believe anything
I belonged to a V35-B years ago. It was a wonderful incredibly stable airplane to fly. I haven't been near one in years, but I do recall the cglimits being pretty narrow.
Thanks for this video. My dad had one of these in the 80's
Mike, this was a really great video! Good job dude! I own a Bonanza. Mine is an older H-model, but it'll still do 206mph. I like it. Keep rocking dude!
This and the Mooney M20 are my favorite aircraft. Still looking good to this day. 😍
Love the vid mojo, thanks hope you're well
Love this plane :D! Everything about it just makes me happy about it. Maybe the powerful engine, or the shape of it. I have a question Mike, what are your views on the Piper arrow?
Friggin' gorgeous little airplane bro! And that little phone charger doubles as a cool little volt meter😊one of the best investments i made on mine for sure
Great video Mike. Thank you
Hi Mike,
Another fantastic aircraft is the Piper Saratoga SP. very comfortable and quiet.
My wife loves the V35, also the V35 has always been ( for me) a very stable IFR platform. That you for sharing.
I was treated to a little bit of stick time on one of these, years ago. I thought it was a bit of a hot rod. Me gusta.
Just gorgeous - love it
Have you ever flown to NJ Teeterboro Airport.
I'm familiar seeing this style plane. It's interesting the planes have 1door. Nice review. Love yourcvoice.
Hey Mike. Reall like the channel.
I was hoping you could do an episode on the
Velocity XL the canard plane. Thanks.
Fantastic Mike..
Hey bro nice channel, great reviews! Do you do plane delivery service?
This model Bonanza is my favorite!
Still my favorite! After the children go off to university THIS is what I will be looking for.
I was desperate to buy one but couldn't deal with the tail parts issue. My favorite plane.
So innovative for general aviation in the 1940s. This is such a beautifully made aircraft
Really awesome plane!
There's one that's a hanger-mate of my Cherokee 235. Its a nice looking bird.
The cabin width of Bonanza's is 42 inches
good week to you bro
Would be interesting to know what it costs to restore such an Aircraft and to see what you have to do to restore it.
Do you have some experiences with it?
Wasn't the V tail Bonanza once know as the "Doctor Killer"
since so many physicians and dentists bought them and did not have the skills to handle it in tight situations.
But this is a memory from 30 or 40 years ago
All GA aircraft are potential killers. Single engine reciprocating are not as safe as turbine engines. Couple a bad pilot with a reciprocating piston engine and you have a disaster waiting to happen.
Yes! Is known as the forked tail proctologist killer.
Any high-performance airplane flown outside its limits can lead to accidents. Keep it within limits and it is safe as any similar airplane.
Always check the ruddervators on the models
Just watch one of these flying over my house 2 hours ago 😄
I love this channel
I’m surprised you didn’t go into why they nicknamed this aircraft, “the doctor killer”..🤦♂️🤦♂️
Shout out to everyone who got their A&P through Baker's School of Aeronautics and got to inspect the crappy orange Bonanza in Smyrna. I just did that last week.
1MG , hey man what shades are those you’re wearing? Look sharp
They’re ray bans. They’re prescription actually 😎
Known as the "Fork-tail Doctor Killer", these are fast but have unique handling characteristics. For those who are less experienced pilots, you can get in serious trouble in an instant. This is the type of plane that crashed and inspired the song, "the day the music died". Look that up!
If you would of looked up that crash and seen how inexperienced that pilot was, you would have come to the realization that no matter what plane they would have been in on that fateful night the out come would have been the same. Morale of the story, Don't take off into a storm. Especially don't take off into a storm with a Pilot that isn't IFR certified with no experience in said aircraft.
Isn’t the HP 285? Sorry if I’m wrong but that is what I remember.
So bonanza vs Comanche which would you go for ?
I have owned and flown both Comanche and Bonanza. Both excellent and similar performance. Definitely prefer the Bonanza due to overall handling and maintenance.
You should do a super Viking
Large cargo door version. Great option
Can tell u enjoy this plane.
The IO-550 is the way to go
V-Tails were produced from 1947-1982.
Great post ! Thank you from a V Tail owner to you ,
Would you say this is a good first plane?
My Bonanza has 6 seats yes the back two seats are for small people but mine is a 1976 V35TC-A and I have a switch inside to activate my ELT , It's turbo would work better if I had a inner cooler , and to me it's not a Bonanza if it's not a V tail! But I'm sure I'll catch some grief for that statement, I wish I could have a TSIO-550 to install with a full glass panels. But I'm old now so after I'm gone someone else can make all those upgrades, I always take off on left tank one reason being is no matter which tank it returns to left tank, ya I'm not sure I guess it cuts down in fuel lines . I had a 1950 a model bonanza , I built this from ground up I know every nut bolt cotter key , I've had this for 45 years , I know what it can do what it will take when I some what push it to limits, it's a highly modded I had help from some old time hot rodders that helped make more Hp it's so smooth on start I spent a day on each mag timing them in. Gap seals antennas are tucked away in winglets got rid of the step, Every little clean up gave me just a bit more speed I had a digital tach so I could see mag drop it's so close which I feel best about, I can't tell you how great a V tail flys ya some say there's a waggle but I've found that if you set up the ruddervators correctly you can get rid of that effect! Ok I'll stop but dollar for dollar there is no better aircraft !
Performance stats? How far can it go on 80 gallons?
700 miles easy... no wind 160 tas @ 65%
5+ hrs at 160 kts depending on alt. Temp. and whether you want to go fast or far. 😉👌
Finest single engine airplane in the world!
conquest 1 is your next step up.multi engine and instrument.
Next year, 2022, will be Bonanza's 75th year. 18.000 Bonanzas have been manufactured.
So.....How much is insurance on one of these? I guess my dreams of having a older V tail Bonanza has died because of the insurance now days.
I can barely pay for the insurance on my Cessna. I can dream I guess, and watch them fly at the airport.
Can you gain hours or ratings that would help reduce your insurance rates?
@@T25de Yes to both - time and ratings. Also, time in specific make/model helps.
@@EJWash57
Thanks for clarifying. Good luck out there fly safe
@@T25de Thanks. You as well.
Roughly $2500/yr for mine. Private/instrument/ 350hrs in type
When's the after flight review?
The Bonanza is even more popular than the Cessna 172.
Not really... way to expensive to own
I hear the Mooney is also one of the most requested planes too😁. I got one, I'll send you pictures on Instagram. Nice 1965 M20C with Sandel HSI, 3 bladed prop, and speed brakes.
That light was on a ocean liner.
Need to tell of the problem of tail replacement can cost 10k per side. I believe this is the only major problem with this plane
It's 18k per side for skins from Textron. Plus labor.
It was great meeting you at Fun and Sun Mike! Your Sling is beautiful and Im sure you will enjoy many more hours in her! Keep making that sweet sweet content!
I went through I prebuy only to find out that Beech no longer supplies v-tail parts that are made from magnesium. So if a “ruddervator” is damaged the only way parts can be gotten is by salvage yards. Furthermore they charge about $7,500 per side and mechanics charge about $7,000 to install. I belong to the Bonanza Society Magazine even though I own a Mooney M20J. I was told that used parts availability can take many months to find in case of the magnesium tail, if available at all! It may be a great plane but I cancelled my offer and bought the Mooney instead. The fear of getting a damaged ruddervator at some distant airport away from home was too much for me.
Thanks for sharing that. The Bonanza os a proven warhorse, but the older ones are proving to be a grab bag, money pit buy. They later models are simply out of my price range.
285 hp at 2,700 RPM
V tail can look nice but I think it's fundamental problem is that pitch trim is up and down and to do that with a v tail you have to split the air at the same time, essentially an air brake aka no bueno. The only way it could work is if the control surface would pivot around a horizontal axis, not one aligned with the fins.
As for the plane, the design is literally from the 40s. That's 75 years ago. That's a crime against humanity. There should be a new bonanza that's less than half the weight, pressurized and has two small jets at the back, less than half the price and it could have a lav plus 4 seats. Imagine how drastically superior a craft that would be.
The Bonanza of today the Cirrus SF-50 jet, which is also V-tail.
@@firefoxussr31 nah visionjet is 1610kg empty, only one engine, slow for a jet and 2 million dollars. Many things wrong there. It should be 400kg with two small engines, 700km/h cruise and cost much less than 1 million.
As a child and flying in the one my Grandfather had, I thought it was a rocket ship
The io-520 is 285hp* not 280
can get a used conquest one for 595000.
Oh no, it's the doctor killer.
Never liked that yoke configuration.
V35B was considered a 6 seater. But very few people put 6 people in it. Too tail heavy
V tails- nicknamed the "doctor killers" for a reason...
Sure - High ego individuals purchased these with little respect for the training and experience required to deal with it safely.
The Cirrus is also nicknamed the Doctor Killer. I have a suspicion that it might not be the plane but the Doctor Pilots that got themselves killed to blame for the nickname.
as the others said, the V-tail is a red herring, it's high performance airplane operated outside of limits.
Old school single engine run 250 mpg
If only that were true.. its more 1 gallon per 10 miles
@@flexairz Nonsense. 15 mpg or better. Easily doable on the original Model 35's with 165 hp Continental 185's. Fuel burn is approx 10 gph.
I'm afraid you're confusing the Bonanza with a fishing trawler.
Easily get 14 to 15 in mine
why did you hide the reg.? Everybody knows it's N3147W
Great Airplanes
If any one is interested in a V-35? Mojo send him my way
Do you have one to sell?
@@mojogrip Mojo I’ll get back with you on the V-35
Gammi are not on every beach they are after market if you are selling plains maybe something you want to put in your knowledge bag
flys at 293 knots approximately 335 miles per hour.
Commenting to improve your algorythem
You changed the title of this video. Did you pass this new derogatory title past the owner of this airplane before you changed it? Obviously, there's an advantage ($$$) to changing titles of your videos several times - otherwise, why would you continue to do so?
Men pilot airplanes, boys and little girls drive cars. 💪🏾
You need to tell that to the WOMAN FAA Designee that signed off on my Private Pilot Certificate back in 1976. She went on to serve at the NTSB. And, you need to tell that to ALL of the women I've flown with over the last 38-years - and there have been a lot! Pretty-sure they'd humble you.
@@EJWash57 sure. 👍🏾
The grammar omg
Are ya just Jelly bcuz grammar didn’t make you rich ? 🤑

Bonanza and a Lance completely different game. Other than that, nice presentation and as always very informative 😊 thank you for sharing
There is a reason a baby pilot like you shouldn't be promoting things aviation. For some reason you have a big audience and thus influence. That's scary.
You didn't mention the one thing that should make new buyers shy away from the V-Tail and is causing current owners to wonder how much longer their planes will be airworthy. Or maybe, you have a solution to magnesium tail plane replacement problem that you haven't mentioned?
Without that crucial piece of information, this is irresponsible reporting.
You are starting a dealership?
Might be the reason Trade-a-Plane has thirty-six (36) listings for model 35s right now. With so many V-tails still out there, I'm surprised that some outfit doesn't offer STC or and/or FAA-PMA replacement parts to keep them airworthy.
@@EJWash57 We were thinking the same thing a couple of days ago. Not sure it's enough planes to pay back for the retooling.. Who even knows how to work Magnesium like that these days?
@@notj5712 Were these components made of magnesium for the the entire production run (1947-1982)? Surely there are more modern alloys to fill the bill. Even composites?
Overpriced old technology that cannot compete in either price or performance with the modern Experimental aircraft. The GA community needs to stop over romanticizing these aircraft and embrace the new experimental offerings.
