The golden age of English keuboardists. Banks, Wakeman, Emmerson, Lord, Mraz.et.al. So glad their mums made them take piano lessons. This tune was an encore for a few tours. Nothing beats the cape, the eyes, the bat wing headband....
It bookends nicely with ''Childlike Faith in Childhoods End'' by Van der Graaf Generator which is also loosely based on the A.C.Clarke book, as 2 of a perfect pair on the same subject matter.

I saw them in Philadelphia in the mid 1970's right after Peter Gabriel had left. I remember seeing women walking around with renaissance era dresses on.
The opening chords could be Underworld, the main riff is Metallica, the second groove is Head Hunters funk with handbrake turns which could be Black Midi. Radiating out from 1972

His is a world alone, no world is his own
He whom life can no longer surprise
Raising his eyes beholds a planet unknown
Creatures shaped this planet's soil
Now their reign has come to end
Has life again destroyed life
Do they play elsewhere, do they know
More than their childhood games
Maybe the lizard's shed its tail
This is the end of man's long union with Earth
Judge not this race by empty remains
Do you judge God by his creatures when they are dead?
For now, the lizard's shed its tail
This is the end of man's long union with Earth
From life alone to life as one
Think not, now your journey's done
For though your ship be sturdy
No mercy has the sea
Will you survive on the ocean of being?

This is my parting council for you on your way

The golden age of English keuboardists. Banks, Wakeman, Emmerson, Lord, Mraz.et.al. So glad their mums made them take piano lessons. This tune was an encore for a few tours. Nothing beats the cape, the eyes, the bat wing headband....
Spot on mate
A great song from a great album. Pure heaven to listen to. ❤️❤️❤️
The lyrics on this album are so varied ,mysticism, biblical, sci fi,nonsense, social commentary, very creative.
My first album, only 6 yrs old. Thanks dad, thanks genesis. I appreciate this masterpiece at 19yrs when my father was already dead.
🎶 Watcher Of The Skies 🎶 Thanks Genesis For This
Great & Fanatastic Song, You're The Best!!!!!
GENESIS FOREVER!!!!! 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎼
Classic opening track for concerts! 🎹🎶🎧
Unici,irripetibili,magnifici,irraggiungibili.....❤❤GENESIS!
Nobody yet has talked about the tremendous playing of Mike Rutherford, an under-rated bass and guitar player.
Met him Bahrain in F 1 week 2017 , in Boots , getting drops for his ears haha. Great guy
I was wearing a Hackett polo shirt haha
@@TheLastOilMan I guess he wasn't wearing Peter Gabriel's t-shirt?
Fantastic opening. I've listened to it for thousand of times.
Just a Great Opening Song to a Album!!!
Js Bach !!
The lyrics are heavily influenced by Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke -amazing book that was adapted by the SyFy channel a couple of years ago.
It bookends nicely with ''Childlike Faith in Childhoods End'' by Van der Graaf Generator which is also loosely based on the A.C.Clarke book, as 2 of a perfect pair on the same subject matter.
He is the BEST Prog drummer end of
One of the greatest bass lines
They left there first estate from heaven
I saw the “Musical Box “ in February of this year in Bath..They performed TLLDOB.. they ended with this song , with the singer wearing PG outfit. It was absolutely Phenomenal. The chills and adrenaline rush this caused was bloody mind blowing I can tell you.. I so wish I had seen Genesis perform this I really do.. I’ll be going to see the MB next year , think they’re playing , .”Selling England by the Pound “.. can’t wait..p.s.I’ve seen Steve Hackett’s , Genesis revisited a few times too.. The dogs gonads.. 😅
Nice one.
Great band Genesis!!!!! Foxtrott a wonderful LP with wonderful songs.
I smoked so much ty stick hash and skunk too this good times no regrets 65 years old
I LIKE THE BASS, GUITAR, AND ORGAN ON THIS SONG.
Very strong fabulous magic eternel ! THANKS ! Genesis forever always THE BEST.
This is awesome. So much feeling in a Song. Seconds Out is my favorite. It's a lil talked about Live Album.
Pour avoir déjà vu "The Musical Box ' interprété cette pièce live......!!!!! Wowww!! Extra ordinaire!!!
I really like both era's of Genesis but this album Foxtrot and the previous, Nursery Cryme are my favorites.
Witness the true power of PROG ROCK.
Though your ship be sturdy, no mercy has the sea, when you survive on the ocean of being.
Just saw Steve Hackett last night played the whole foxtrot album live in Camden New Jersey unbelievable all I can say is go see it Steve still got it my friends
Witnessed their performance from (71-77) in Toronto & Buffalo. Absolutely fantastic every time. (5) times
Radiating out from 1972
Watcher of Skies is Genesis Classic
Another masterpiece from Genesis 1972.
Melhor banda do rock progressivo de todos os tempos... GENESIS FOREVER 🎶🎶🎶🎶👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Foxtrot definitely my favorite Genesis album
And that outro. I always envisioned a cartoon with a Jetsons' spacemobile darting around the sky, during the outro.
@@joseislanio8910 Concordo!
The Annunaki are the watchers.
Genesis best band ever. I have compared text and music of watcher of the skies to text and music of Space Oddity. Watcher of the Skies in largely UNDERRATED, IT'S A LIFELONG MASTERPIECE! GENESIS FOREVER!
It isn't underrated in the slightest! I'm guessing you don't actually understand what the word 'underrated' means...
Magic and Out of this Universe!!!
Never in my life have I heard such fine Mellotronics
Yep. This and The Court Of the Crimson King, and probably my favorite song of all time Yes And You And I. Of course there's countless other great Mellotron songs. Even some Beatles.
I’m so glad I had 2 very cool older brothers to turn me on to such greatness. And great parents allowing me to go to the show! Sweet memories!💖💕
If I were stuck alone on an island, it would be this and Suppers Ready and so, so many more Genesis songs! ❤❤❤
''Time Table'' and ''Can Utility'' are often overlooked but equally as brilliant as ''Suppers Ready'' and ''Watcher of the Skies''.
It's pretty much that Unicorn in musical terms - a truly flawless album.
this is one of my favorite Genesis songs
I've heard this song for the very 1st time on the Music Choice channel years ago under the classic rock channel. I've never heard this song from the 70s before & I didn't even know the band had 5 members in them. Including, Peter Gabriel. Like, WOW ❤😂🎉😢😮😅
Wow!! Well Keith, I hope you’ve spent the last 7 months going through everything else Peter did as it’s nothing short of genius..Wish I could go back and discover his and Genesis ALL over again .. regards..
Playing Mr Collins with Mr Thompson was amazing to see in 1977
A lot of folks like to use the word EPIC now in days. This is a perfect time to say it for this song.
Only words are spine tingling and REVERANCE
Very good music this ! I live in Québec,Canada !
