- The band Open Hands did a spontaneous music creation session for me where they recorded several new tunes by picking a key, agreeing on the style of music they wanted to play and then just playing it without anything written down or rehearsed. The music was recorded direct to two track, done in one take and mixed live with no overdubs. This is the Blues song they recorded in that session. Open Hands-Abraham Laboriel, Greg Mathieson, Justo Almario, and Bill Maxwell. Recording engineer Bill Schnee
When you have top pros who know each other, and play together a lot, you reach the point where the band doesn't play the music - it plays them. It wants to be heard and uses them to express itself. And you *get* "first take live" recordings like this with no need to do re-takes, overdubs, or corrections. They get it right the first time. Just wonderful.
WOW man you are just a light the way you express yourself..like nothing I've ever heard before
@@BattManion1979 Thank you, though I don't think I'm quite that eloquent. But these were top pros. Bill Schnee is a legendary recording engineer. Bill Maxwell is a top jazz drummer. Paul McCartney thinks Abraham Laboriel is the greatest bass player in the world. I don't know if I go that far, but "Best Jazz/fusion bass player _I've_ ever heard is a true statement. For something else magical with Abraham and Bill on it, see ua-cam.com/video/2bAvz2Lyw4k/v-deo.html I just sat there open mouthed the first time I watched it. The ending is _perfect_.
