    Batteries are better option than built-in accu imho. If your batteries run out (or you forget to charge the device), you can quite easily buy new batteries almost everywhere, including gas stations or grocery stores. But AA batteries would be better than AAA.

    • @TheHopelessGeek
      @TheHopelessGeek  Рік тому +2

      Yes, I would have preferred AA too. I bought those rechargeable Duracell AAAs so that they last longer and can be recharged when I'm not using them.

    I have the previous generation that runs off one AA battery and wanted to upgrade but the AAA batteries were a deal breaker. Still use the old one often for events for ambient audio, have a lav mic for interviews, It can be used for so many things. The battery life is great. Cheaply built but still works after all these years. Now a days there are things that weren't around that do specific things better like the Zoom f2 that's designed for lav mics and then there are bluetooth devices like the Go.

    Fix for rattling noise: take a foam earbud fluffy cover, cut a very thin strip and insert it along the top or bottom of the volume rocker. Poke it in with a thin sharp blade. It will stay nicely in the cavity and totally cure the rattle. You'll need to do the same with the trash/delete button. These are the only buttons that have the rattle and this solution is so good it might have been something they did in the factory. Black coloured foam will not be visible, or it will look factory made on a white edition. Very smart looking and feeling too.

    Can you advise how to record a digital piano using zoom h1n using an Android mobile phone (& a DSLR if possible). Also please do mention which cables we would require for both recording options. Thanks.

    • @TheHopelessGeek
      @TheHopelessGeek  Рік тому

      To record audio directly to your phone, you need a USB connection from the microusb port of the H1n to the USB of your phone.
      You will likely need an adaptor to make sure both of these connect over various ports. You can use a cable like this: amzn.to/3Qlg7aC
      As soon as you plug it in, the H1n will show the interface selection screen. Select the first one, called *Audio Interface*
      It then asks to choose between *PC* or *iPhone* . I've found that selecting the PC option works with phones and other devices too.
      It then gives a choice to use *Bus power* (draw power from the connected phone) or *battery power* . You can choose as you prefer. I suggest Bus power.
      For a digital camera (DSLR or mirrorless), it's much simpler. You just need to connect the *headphone out* port of the H1n to your camera's mic input. Please make sure to use a "TRS" style stereo cable, like this one: amzn.to/461538f
      And that's all! Your H1n will now act as an external mic to record high quality audio straight to the recording device.
      I hope this helped 🙂

    • @TheHopelessGeek
      @TheHopelessGeek  Рік тому +2

      You can do that with any stereo mic, like even your smartphone! But if you can invest into a dedicated device, then yes, I can recommend the H1n. The battery drains a little faster than I expected, but the 24-bit 48KHz audio is excellent 👌🏼

    When prices go up it's because the dollar value has gone down, as you need more dollars to purchase the same thing. One thing to note, except with differences in exchange rates, is that the dollar value never goes up, inflation always makes the dollar go down. The government loves inflation as it devalues its debt. If there were deflation, our purchasing power would go up as the cost of goods/services goes down we can buy more with the same dollar.

    Any product that's big enough for AA batteries - but will take only AAA batteries - I will stop buying.
    Please join me in eliminating AAA batteries. Thank you! I will now purchase the Tascam DR-05X.

    a new Pro version with 32-bit float recording should arrive in 2024 or at the end of 2023, as has already happened for other Zoom models.
    We await with great hope also for the price that does not differ too much from the H1n... 😉

    This thing is legit garbage - even if the meter shows you're not anywhere near clipping, you could be. Ruined a whole performance. Also can only record one thing at a time, DO NOT BUY IF YOU THINK IT WILL RECORD THE AMBIENT MIC AND LINE IN AT THE SAME TIME. Learned that the hard way. Selling it and going with a Tascam X6.

    • @TheHopelessGeek
      @TheHopelessGeek  Рік тому +1

      It only records either with the built in mics, or with an external mic connected.

      @@TheHopelessGeek yeah it’s super disappointing :( - i’m excited to try the tascam. The line input pre amp gets overloaded on these H1Ns and that’s why it clipped out even though I was like 40% on the meter. I also got the one with the video camera in it and begged amazon to return because the camera was literally 2007 quality. The absolute worst camera i’ve ever used in my life. They really need to get it together lol.

    Wondering how susceptible to breakage,/breaking off the mic caging might be if banged, or esp. dropped (duh).

      The cage seems to be the sturdiest part of the whole thing. The rest of the body feels hollow 😅
