  • Bresh and Lonbeck had an upcoming concert where they were to play ala Merle Travis and Joe Maphis. This is from the rehearsal. It is a classic Merle Travis song put into a duet form.

Well, definitely consumed with grief that my favorite guitar player of all time is not with us anymore, but this man was SO cool when I did get to hang out just as all his shows got cancelled. I think I may have had some of the last real 3 days he had. We did party down and had the best margaritas and Mexican food in Nashville. What a blessing to get to hang with the Bresh man, a REAL human being! Bummed I didn’t get more, but a miracle for the time we had! Especially to get to meet and play with your favorite guitar player

I’m back and forth throwing flattop guitars on a yard bonfire right now, lemme get back with you. Geez. That is just humbling. And just laid back down to earth guys blazing the heck out of it.
Gotta go, the fire runs low, gonna go ahead and throw mandolins on there too, just in case.

Brian is a brilliant player and musician. He doesn’t play. He makes music. He composes as he plays. And the compositions are never not fascinating.

Wow! Bluegrass cross-picking verses finger picking. Who could possibly judge which style is superior? I can’t. Flat picking has always been easier for me, although I did purchase a Merle Travis guitar book about 30 years ago and couldn’t get the hang of it. I did meet a guy in Oregon who learned Merle’s picking style from him personally and he offered to give me lessons, but I was trying to support a family and just couldn’t sacrifice the time back then, some 30 years ago. My loss and the worlds gain I reckon.

The guitar on the stand at screen right is the first ever solid body electric, the predecessor to all solid body guitars including the Telecaster, Strat., and the Les Paul. Designed by Merle Travis (Thom's biological father) and built by Paul Bigsby, it was the very guitar that Leo Fender borrowed to copy and build the Telecaster. The Travis/Bigsby guitar should be in shrine somewhere!

At least first solid spanish style. Never knew Merle designed it tho I have known of Bigsby's building if it.

The different stray chords, if I’m saying it correctly, makes Thoms music stand apart. Not a dissonant, but slightly up or down abit

masterful playing. just change those 'BRESH TV' voice-overs and logos and I think it would take it up a notch. you need something more organic that represents you.
