Wow what a great video and so expertly put together. It was interesting, educational, fun and entertaining. Well done to all of you for your hard work in producing this for all of us to watch.
I was sooo expecting a paradoy of the Two Ronnies sketch “Four Candles”… love it. Its a fab place. I recommend visiting during special event open days when they have volunteers demonstrating weaving, brick making, tricorn stool making etc. in addition to all the exhibits. Fab video. Great value for all the family.
Last week, I met a Dorset farmer, Allen Chalk now in his mid ‘90s used to farm with horse and plough. He spoke at length farming for his dad then for himself from the ‘30s and ‘40s still using the traditional methods of old especially horse and plough. A privilege to have met him.
This was the experience of a lifetime! Thank you so much Tony for organising this opportunity and making it possible. Massive thanks to all at the museum and to Richard for being a 'wizard' with the edit! I had a FANTASTIC time and am still blown away by it all 💜💜💜
WOW! Brilliant editing, Richard, thank you! Wonderful acting from both of you, of course, but I don't think I did too bad either 😄. You've really shown the museum in all it's glory! I had a huge smile watching it and am totally thrilled by the result, as I know Ed and everyone there will be when I show them this morning. Looking forward to the next time already! 🥰😂👍

What a lovely place to visit and a lovely video Richard and Julia Born in the early 60's I can remember when things were a bit "simpler" than they are today. Care and pride is something that is sadly lacking in this modern day and age, with the demise of the lovely old horse and the introduction of the tractor signalled the end of the old ways with their apparent innocence and romance. My school days weren't my happiest either! But at home with Mum and Dad and brothers was great and also exploring the fields and woods close to home. I'm lucky as I had a rural upbringing. I can remember pink paraffin and Esso blue, I remember going to the local garage at Watchfield (Smiths garage) to fetch a gallon of Esso blue for the heater at home. The same heater that I scolded my buttock on when I got out of the bath one cold winters day! My Mum had a mangal in the back garden and I caught my fingers in it! This brought back so many memories even the toilet in the Anderson shelter brought back a memory of my dear old Nan, she lived in an Almeshouse in Claypits lane Shrivenham, it was a small cottage but she could not manage the stairs and lived downstairs. Her toilet was a simple bucket with a seat and I remember walking from our home in Watchfield to Nans home and my mum digging a hole in the back garden to empty the contents of the toilet into. How things have changed even since the sixties! Talking of Sixty, I shall be 60 this year!
Julia and Richard, this is pure gold!! I was hooked every second throughout. Your commentary, the skits, conversation with the staff, was perfect. I will share this video with my family in London. Unfortunately, I cannot visit this lovely museum as I now live in America. I miss British culture, so wait for your videos eagerly. As a child, we had the clothes wringer you demonstrated in our garden, which had been left by the previous home owners. I played with it as a child. My neighbour had an air raid bunker in their garden and we had a coal shed outside. I am about your age Richard, and am Indian. I am fascinated by the old British culture and way of life. You and Julia are perfect together and I’m glad you’re happy! Watching from Oradell, New Jersey, USA

14:21 Lovely to see a Water Bodge. Gardeners of walled gardens used them to transport water around the garden. I remember when we had a village blacksmith back in Wales. Also remember when the stable block where he worked burnt down one night and you could see all the horses lined up in the street until they brought it under control. There was an entire community here in London who still lived in pre-fabs up until 8 years ago but sadly now the entire estate has been demolished and only one house has been kept as a museum. What a beautiful production, you must be exhausted with the amount of work that went into that. Wonderful showcase for the museum. In Wales there is St Fagan's Museum, along similar lines as this. My village barbers shop where I went for haircuts was taken to the museum but sadly costs mean they haven't rebuilt it yet, even 20 years later. Will be adding this Rural Life Museum to my list of places to visit. Wonderful.
Great little vid! It's lovely to have these "museums" preserving our old way of life. Mind you as a 60s baby I grew up when whole parades of small independent local shops were very much in evidence, and a nearby prefab estate was still thriving. Oh happy days! Thanks for helping to keep them alive!
We loved watching this one, the BEST! It's fascinating how people used to live and I wish sometimes we could turn back the clock. It was so interesting seeing all the buildings and equipment; loved the old shopping street and the forge. It looked like such a fun day and we must visit there sometime. Thank you for bringing the old life back to life again for us all to see with your fabulous acting. Just wonderful!

Beautifully filmed and put-together, this video is wonderful. The mix of narrative, explanation and demonstration is so cleverly though-through and is a real inspiration to explore our history further.
What a fascinating place and well worth a visit. Took me down memory lane for sure. I remember at the end of every Winter my mother getting the wringer out to do the blankets because the spiner on the twin tub just didn't do the job properly. Takes you back to simpler times when folks just got on with things. Great production chaps and really enjoyed the acting in between brought everything to life. Look forward to the next adventure.
What a wonderful video! Not just Victorian but per-Victorian and early 1950s life in the country. As someone who grew up in rural America from 1950 to 1966 I don't miss the lack of indoor plumbing or the primitive black and white television with it's tiny screen that could only receive two channels. Nor do I miss the fact that after school programs were impossible to take part in. I do miss the peace and quiet and the smells of new cut hay and damp soil. And the sounds of tractors in the distant fields and birds everywhere, and occasionally a car or truck would pass by and we would all look to see who it was. It was a quiet time and my brother and three sisters and I grew very close and remain so to this day.
Another beautifully crafted video. Really, what a wonderful place and great praise should also go to the staff in the museum for being such good sports and helping you with some of your whimsies. Julia was brave to drive that tractor. If it was anything like the old tractors in my village I know the steering can be quite heavy. Loved the Anderson shelter. We had one in our back garden in Wallington, it later became my father's tool shed! Well done you two.
Another interesting, entertaining and educational video. I really appreciate all the effort you go to to present us something different but still of high quality every Friday (for members). Thank you 👍🏻
Excellent, that is definitely tv quality Richard and Julia, absolutely loved it, that bought so many memories of my young childhood, garden , garage, shop, and prefab, my aunt lived in one, was like going back in time. I used to stand at the fariors door with my father watching horse shoes being made, my mother fed my brother on cow& gate remember those tins, and being cosy in bed with a feather eiderdown, love what you done with the old tv and end of video. Acting, drone footage, and your filming all faultless. Still waiting for the post card Julia, haven't heard that saying for years .
Top banana guys 👏, another fun and interesting video, well done, really enjoying these new longer weekly videos. It must be fun to make them, Keep up the good work you lovely humans 👌
What a fascinating Museum, I must visit one day. My Aunt had a prefab in Dulwich and was so upset when they relocated her in to a flat. Thoroughly enjoyable video Richard and Julia .
Made me cry with laughter again, love your whimsy. I worked in the office of a garage in Pulborough and Fittleworth when I was young had to put up with all those jokes, couldn't help laughing so the jokes got worse. Well done, excellent acting.
That's amazing Richard and Julia, I loved it. It brought me back to when I was 15 and my 2 older Brothers and their families lived in Royton in Manchester and my brother Pat brought myself and his 7 children to a wonderful museum, it was old shop's and cobble stone road's and I'll never for get it, I am 65 now and I often think back on that wonderful day and wonderful experience. Thanks guy's 👍😉🇨🇮☘️Eire
Nice video. The color effects are so bright and just pop; I enjoyed that. Is that how people washed laundry?! No wonder they got up at 4am! So much for the simpler days...
Wow what can one say. That was awesome. Took me back to so many memories. Loved every second. What a brilliant day. Thank you for a trip down memory lane.
Thank you Richard and Julia for yet another amazing video! It was a ready made movie set for all your musings! You both must have had so much fun there! All the best to you both from Massachusetts!:)
Excellent video Richard! I recognised a lot, we did a rural craft show there demonstrating trugmaking about 20 years ago. I had a look round while Pete was working hard. The doll in the high chair in the pre fab at the end - I had one called Jane. She has a wonky eye, I pushed them in and I cut her hair and she is currently sat on my windowsill in the back bedroom. Heading for 60 and doing fine. We're going to have to visit again sometime.
Well done on such an excellent production and to Tony for organising it! Loved all the acting scenes and costume changes , especially by Julia! What a great place that is to visit.
An absolutely delightful episode. I fully appreciate a well executed history museum and the two of you looked like you were thoroughly enjoying it. Back in the 1990's, I worked as blacksmith at a history museum portraying a 1702 Spanish Mission in Florida. As the visitors stared into that waddle and daub forge with the charcoal all aglow, there were two questions asked the most: "Is that fire real?" and "do you make swords?" The fire was real and no, we did not make swords or horse shoes. Just nails, hinges tools and repairs. Mostly nails. Thousands of nails over a six year period.
That was worth a week's wait. Brilliant production as ever . Brought back many memories. My father used to drive a ride on Dennis mower , and occasionally let my sister and I have a go. He used to paint the white lines for the lacrosse pitch too - I was never any good at playing it ! My grandmother lived in Woodingdean and I remember the pre-fabs. Built after WW2. Apparently there are still some around and people still love living in them. Could be an idea for emergency, temporary, accomodation nowadays? Thanks Richard & Julia and especially Tony and his 'crew' for making it possible
Hello the lovely Richard and Julia👋😘 This scene you recorded of the school reminds me of my days back then, we all had to stand up to greet the teacher in the morning 😀thank you so much for your videos, I truly enjoy them and always looking forward to see your notification 😘👍👍👍
Excellent video, very enjoyable. I listen to your Naked Englishman broadcast and your concerns regarding finding new content and I feel you are on the right track with what you are doing. I’m sure you will find more opportunities to show life in the old times. Keep up the good work.
I recognised that cricket pavillion!!! My Dad played cricket in Godalming!! Oh how wonderful to see it! Thank you SO much!! And Deeks cycle shop, Frimley!! Remember that too!! such a fantastic trip down memory lane for me, thank you so much!!!
Totally enjoyed your visit to the rural life museum , living locally I am ashamed to say that I have never been in, but will definitely pay a visit this summer, Thanks Richard and Lovely Julia
What a privilege to video here (not far from the Tilford Video we did back in 2018). Nice that you get the time to film without the panic of getting things done quickly although there is never really enough time as we both know. Lovely Video.
This was fantastic Richard and Julia!! I love the window through history and the way people used to work and live and the tools they used . I just love the Victorian era! Fascinates me . Need to add this to places I need to visit 😍 Thanks !!!!!! The garage scene hilarious! 😃😃😃
That was marvellous sheer pleasure, such fun, real English humour, thank you Richard and Judy, whoops I mean Richard and Julia by the way you look so happy ❤ ❤
This video was informative and educational. Wished that I lived closer to visit this amazing museum. I live in the USA. I will let my good friend, Brockton James, know about this program so, he can see it. Chiero!!! Many blessings! Take care, K
Epic video Richard & Julia. The Rural Life Centre is just ‘round the corner’ from us. Haven’t had a proper look round it for a while. Last time we were there was for the Weyfest event a few years ago. Must return for a good look round sometime soon. Fond boyhood memories of the cricket pavilion when it was in its original location which was at my local (at that time) recreation ground in the Busbridge area of Godalming.
I must visit the Rural Museum, I really want to find a time machine and go back to simpler times, and this is a great way to do that for a couple of hours peace from the 'woke' world we are enduring. My Grandad kept shire horses on his farm to pull the machinery.
I took my Mom, to the back to back houses in Birmingham, about twelve years ago. The rooms were tiny and the stairs steep, leading to the bedrooms. My Mom commented, that this house was larger and more luxurious, than the one her parents lived in, I thought she was joking, but she wasn’t. They had to go outside to the toilet and laundry, she was eight years old in 1931 and had to do the laundry. She had to light a fire under a large steel container and used a dolly to wash the clothes. We think we have it hard now, what a joke. Thanks for the video, it was wonderful.
One of greatest videos you done richard and Julia ,you both very good at acting love it ,hope you richard had not too sleep in the cot lol. Must go there some day look great place to go glad you both had a fantastic time.

Very much still watching yours...almost thought you'd moved into a house on the last one. It's just that Richard and Julia are an hour away and needed content and I knew I could help. I tend to stay fairly local these days. Good to see you're both happy and enjoying life up there. We did have lots of fun making that film!! XX

@@TravelTrollsTV Right, I'll start commenting more 😄. I'm not great at short, small chat comments, preferring long ones when I've got something to say...like this 😂. I'm thrilled you like Richard and Julia too, they really are a lovely couple, like you two. Shows we have a similar view of what's important in life. My original thought was to provide lots of whimsy opportunities over a number of shows but Richard wanted one and it did work out brilliantly, even with me in it 🤣! We are going to do more, though, and, as this has been very well received at the museum, I have more ideas to discuss with them. They do deserve a bigger following. Are you going to do lives again? I'd certainly come on. I miss those! Love to you both, Azzy 🥰
Firstly i thought when i saw rural life title it might be just a narration of rural life...but Richard sir and julia mam have shown their best efforts to demonstrate in reality how the rural lives were.....Beautifull rural life... was our past beautiful or can we make our future more beautiful than our past through new technologies ? Big confusion in me but i m sure our past life was eco friendly.... but future ...?
What a great video.. informative and funny.. well done guys. My late gran in Glasgow used to still have the wringer for the washing..in fact she still used a lot of old equipment back in the 70s when I was growing up in Scotland. There were quite a few Anderson shelters in her street. Those old carts looked amazing. Really enjoyed the video...thank you
richard / julia love tonight vlog love doing hand washing liveing in my van full time i do a bit of hand washing lol keep the videos comeing just give me some peace in my van blessings davey
The blacksmith (back in the day) would probably have been supplied with local iron ore Opencast quarries were dotted all over the Weald supplying iron for local use and also for cannons on warships There are quite a few existing hammer ponds and furnace ponds where streams were dammed and water power was used to extract the ore in Surrey and Kent
Excellent, full of interest. Reminds me very much of the Museum of East Anglian Life in Stowmarket, Suffolk (now the Museum of Food) I used to be a volunteer miller there. My first junior school was very similar, infants in one room and juniors in the other room. The teachers at my Grammar school were dressed like that.
I am 59 year old and I wonder if people much younger than me would know what and Anderson shelter is? I say is as I know some gardens still have them. The little "acts" between Julia and Richard were fantastic.

So many lovely things lost from those days.
Thanks for the lovely comment.. actually the tractors steering was alright but the clutch was tricky! 💜
@@JuliaHartley Glad to hear that. The ones I tried in the village were like trying to steer a tanker into a mousehole!
One to be very proud of indeed Richard & Julia! So exceptional & fantastic in every way!! 😊 💜 🎥 xx
Thanks Tracey!
Brilliant Richard and Julia. Thoroughly enjoyed that. Well done.
Many thanks!
Another interesting, entertaining and educational video. I really appreciate all the effort you go to to present us something different but still of high quality every Friday (for members). Thank you 👍🏻
Thanks, Mark - our pleasure.
I agree, this is TV quality, everyone I've shown it to has absolutely loved it
We try our best - let's hope it gets the views.
Great living museum great see old buildings back to life enjoy watching back in time Julia was great actor great video enjoy it
Thanks, Jason - it is a lovely place.
Top banana guys 👏, another fun and interesting video, well done, really enjoying these new longer weekly videos. It must be fun to make them, Keep up the good work you lovely humans 👌
Glad you enjoyed it
Really enjoyed that, must visit the museum sometime.
Please do! It's such a lovely place.
Right your showing off now Richard 😂😂😂.. once again a fantastic thankyou for a great video.. infact thankyou to all involved.
Thanks 👍 Glad you enjoyed it.
What a fascinating Museum, I must visit one day. My Aunt had a prefab in Dulwich and was so upset when they relocated her in to a flat. Thoroughly enjoyable video Richard and Julia .
Thank you, Jeanie.
Made me cry with laughter again, love your whimsy. I worked in the office of a garage in Pulborough and Fittleworth when I was young had to put up with all those jokes, couldn't help laughing so the jokes got worse. Well done, excellent acting.
Thanks, Carole - I enjoyed making the whimsy especially!
Yes! Thank you!
Utterly gorgeous film. You two are the cutest! These films just get better and better. What a place! Defo needs a trip back petrol prices willing.
Very much well worth going - thanks, Rachel.
I love History, wasn't that good at it in school, but as i've gotten older, I am learning to appreciate it, Good stuff guys,
Thanks so much.
Wow what can one say. That was awesome. Took me back to so many memories. Loved every second. What a brilliant day. Thank you for a trip down memory lane.
So pleased!
Thank you Richard and Julia for yet another amazing video! It was a ready made movie set for all your musings! You both must have had so much fun there! All the best to you both from Massachusetts!:)
Oh we did indeed. :)
Lovely story...please come, ask for me and I'll make your visit special 😉
Great stuff - thanks, Kerry.
Those prefabs were flippin' freezing in the Winter!
Damp too, unless you kept the heating on.
Excellent! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great film, takes me back to my childhood. Really nice museum.
Like the costume drama. Thanks 🙂
Thanks, Ron. Appreciated.
Well done on such an excellent production and to Tony for organising it! Loved all the acting scenes and costume changes , especially by Julia! What a great place that is to visit.
Our pleasure!
An absolutely delightful episode. I fully appreciate a well executed history museum and the two of you looked like you were thoroughly enjoying it.
Back in the 1990's, I worked as blacksmith at a history museum portraying a 1702 Spanish Mission in Florida. As the visitors stared into that waddle and daub forge with the charcoal all aglow, there were two questions asked the most:
"Is that fire real?" and "do you make swords?"
The fire was real and no, we did not make swords or horse shoes. Just nails, hinges tools and repairs. Mostly nails. Thousands of nails over a six year period.
Very well done, informative and entertaining, folks! My friend Kathryn Livermore suggested I see this! Thanks!
Thanks to Kathryn for the recommendation - and thanks for watching too!
Fabulous - thanks, Linda.
Got half way but must dash to DITCHLING GREEN!!!
Superb.
David and Lily.
Good to see you yesterday.
Hello the lovely Richard and Julia👋😘 This scene you recorded of the school reminds me of my days back then, we all had to stand up to greet the teacher in the morning 😀thank you so much for your videos, I truly enjoy them and always looking forward to see your notification 😘👍👍👍
I think we could do with some of that respect in the classrooms today!
i love history ,, the wars are my subject,,but anything old is my cup of tea ..
What a lovely video ,beautiful place and you two are so wonderful together. best wishes 😁
Thanks so much
Absolutely wonderful. Thanks for a great morning, just watching.
Excellent video, very enjoyable. I listen to your Naked Englishman broadcast and your concerns regarding finding new content and I feel you are on the right track with what you are doing. I’m sure you will find more opportunities to show life in the old times. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Brian. I am never sure how these things come into being.
I recognised that cricket pavillion!!! My Dad played cricket in Godalming!! Oh how wonderful to see it! Thank you SO much!! And Deeks cycle shop, Frimley!! Remember that too!! such a fantastic trip down memory lane for me, thank you so much!!!
You must come visit, Mary 😀
@@azzytwoz I have not been up to Surrey for years, its on my list!!! I would love to see that pavillion again, so many happy memories!
So cool! How much fun!
Totally enjoyed your visit to the rural life museum , living locally I am ashamed to say that I have never been in, but will definitely pay a visit this summer, Thanks Richard and Lovely Julia
Do go - it is well worth visiting.
What a privilege to video here (not far from the Tilford Video we did back in 2018). Nice that you get the time to film without the panic of getting things done quickly although there is never really enough time as we both know. Lovely Video.
Thanks, Marq - it was a fabulous place to film in, and all the staff and volunteers were so helpful and kind.
@@RichardVobes I must visit there some time.
This was fantastic Richard and Julia!! I love the window through history and the way people used to work and live and the tools they used . I just love the Victorian era! Fascinates me . Need to add this to places I need to visit 😍 Thanks !!!!!! The garage scene hilarious! 😃😃😃
Thanks, Joanna. We LOVED making this episode.
Hi Joanna, ask for me and I'll make sure you have a special time.
@@azzytwoz Thanks 😀
What a fantastic video. Haven’t been there for many years, and there is a lot more to see now. Must visit again
That was marvellous sheer pleasure, such fun, real English humour, thank you Richard and Judy, whoops I mean Richard and Julia by the way you look so happy ❤ ❤
Thanks so much, Anne.
This video was informative and educational. Wished that I lived closer to visit this amazing museum. I live in the USA. I will let my good friend, Brockton James, know about this program so, he can see it. Chiero!!! Many blessings! Take care, K
Hi Kathryn - thanks for the recommendation to Brockton James. I think he enjoyed the video too.
Thanks for a wonderful video Richard and Julia!
Thank you so much
Such a delight! Thank you. Susan
Excellent. Keep up the good work 😊
Thanks - we shall try.
Just brilliant 👏
Thanks so much, Alan.
I see that this channel is growing fast. around 3K followers every day. Keep a good work exposing corrupt government.
Wow! That's great to learn.
Hello Clive, please come along and ask for me and I'll make it a special visit.
@@azzytwoz Thankyou very much👍. I’ll let you know when we’re planning a visit. Perhaps combine it with a trip to the local brewery!!
I must visit the Rural Museum, I really want to find a time machine and go back to simpler times, and this is a great way to do that for a couple of hours peace from the 'woke' world we are enduring.
My Grandad kept shire horses on his farm to pull the machinery.
Oh, if wishes were shire horses! 💜
Glad you enjoyed it, Steve.
Come along Steve and I'll make sure you have a good time!
Absolutely fabulous. Thank you Richard and Julia for a wonderful experience and for producing such a brilliant film of our museum, it really does show it at it's best. Looking forward to the return...so much more still to see...going to watch it again now 😀 👍
Our pleasure, Tony. Hope to see you soon.
Ditched us then? 😅🤣
@@TravelTrollsTV 😂🤣 Not at all! I thought I'd heard you mentioned on a Vobes Show live, just before Richard said that vanlifers must be odd, I put him right! Very much still watching yours...almost thought you'd moved into a house on the last one. It's just that Richard and Julia are an hour away and needed content and I knew I could help. I tend to stay fairly local these days. Good to see you're both happy and enjoying life up there. We did have lots of fun making that film!! XX
@@azzytwoz Not sure Richard has made the right decision going to one a week financially but his videos this last 5 weeks have been really good viewing. Miss you buddy 😁
That was Brilliant really informative ,great acting & great filming angles Loved it !!!!
Brill - thanks for watching.
Great video thanks for showing that Fantastic museum.😊
What a great video.. informative and funny.. well done guys. My late gran in Glasgow used to still have the wringer for the washing..in fact she still used a lot of old equipment back in the 70s when I was growing up in Scotland. There were quite a few Anderson shelters in her street. Those old carts looked amazing. Really enjoyed the video...thank you
Thanks Alex - much appreciated.
richard / julia love tonight vlog love doing hand washing liveing in my van full time i do a bit of hand washing lol keep the videos comeing just give me some peace in my van blessings davey
Thanks, Davey - we shall do our best.
The blacksmith (back in the day) would probably have been supplied with local iron ore
Opencast quarries were dotted all over the Weald supplying iron for local use and also for cannons on warships
There are quite a few existing hammer ponds and furnace ponds where streams were dammed and water power was used to extract the ore in Surrey and Kent
Loved this one. I think you should both move in there permanently!
We would love to! :)
Highly entertaining - and educational, to a degree!
Thanks, Malcolm.
Thank you both for a really interesting video - thoroughly enjoyed your acting - it so much brought it to life! 🙂 Excellent drone footage btw!👍
Absolutely brilliant!!
So pleased you enjoyed it.
Sounds great! I must visit that museum - thanks, Nick.
Fantastic production, let's hope englishness and the English are not reduced to mere museum exhibits and curious .. we must persevere!!
Absolutely!
I am 59 year old and I wonder if people much younger than me would know what and Anderson shelter is? I say is as I know some gardens still have them. The little "acts" between Julia and Richard were fantastic.
Thanks so much - we would like to do more.
