  • After testing negative for Covid we take our test results and head to the last frontier, Alaska. Riding the Denali Park Road has been a dream of Matt’s since he drove it on a bus almost 1 year ago. He’s talked non stop about riding all 92 miles of its majestic gravel glory ever since that fateful bus ride. We watched the weather for months and after spotting a weather trend in the right direction took off for Denali only to arrive during a rain storm. Will the weather clear up and give us that rare glimpse of Denali or will my 3rd bike ride for the year end in rain soaked gear and an extreme saddle sore?

"...Its like the Lord of the Rings out here" - I know these guys are obviously experienced and well traveled by this point but that comment really encapsulates the sheer beauty of sprawling mountain-scapes. As someone from the east coast, I grew up and spent most of my life pretty much blind to what a towering behemoth true mountains are. The Appalachian mountains have a beauty all their own, but I still remember the first time I saw what true mountains were when I first went on a cross country trek out west. There really is an almost fantasy vibe to them which throws you into that mindset of something like Lord of the Rings.

Man, what an awesome adventure. My family had plans to spend a few weeks in Alaska this summer, including staying at one of the backcountry lodges at the end of the Denali Park Road, but we of course had to cancel everything because of covid. While I'm not sure if we'll get the opportunity to plan a trip like that again, it does relieve some of that pain seeing you guys have such a unique experience at Denali. Here's to the Mediocre Amateur crew going on the adventures we can't go on, so that we can live vicariously through them. Love this channel.

I feel like most of the stuff they do only has a one time cost associated to it (like their gear). Sure there's gas and whatnot, but most of their outings seem to be mainly just them bringing their gear and not paying for an expensive hotel every time like your typical vacation. Also right now flights are pretty cheap.

On the NewsAF podcast Danny has occasionally admitted with a great deal of candor, humour and humility that he is extremely lucky to have parents with a particular level of wealth that provides him and his family with a financial safety net which in turn allows him to pursue a lifestyle that he knows most cannot.
He once told a story about how his son said "When i grow up i want to do what you do dad." To which Danny replied "Son, I will never make enough money for you to be able to do what i do."
