I LOVE THIS KNIFE. I had the RECON 1, and it was amazing and built tough. THIS SEEMS TO TAKE THAT UP A NOTCH. Will buy it soon. Thanks for the in depth review and USE of the knife for us to see.
NexisFilms I bought one 2 days ago from coldsteel authorized retailer but there is no serial number or anything stamped on the blade or box unfortunately lots of counterfeit cs blades on ebay once u get the knife there is a fb cold steel nation join that and post pictures lots of cs users and experts there can verify it for you
I picked one of these up for use at work and as a backup knife when im out in the woods. If i lose or break my fixed blade its comforting to know i still have this in my pocket.
I'm just glad Cold Steel is putting out some really good functional knives. The novelty knives tend to get old. I think I'm going to pic this one up, it's right in that size range I like.
For the money... The finn wolf and several others are not bad at all as light duty edc.... and shouldnt be tossed to the wayside. But for hard use and duty... it takes a special breed of blade.
This is one of those knife you want to carry with you just in case as in the movies your day starts quite normal and then suddenly shit hit the fan and all post apocalyptic shit happens lolss jokes aside this is a folder you can bet your life on its same thickness as the cs srk
Hope you do a review on the Finn Wolf. I ordered one yesterday. My thought is that the Finn Wolf can "replace" the stainless Mora by being easier/smaller to carry. The Triad Lock should hold up to things you would ask a Mora to do.
The triad lock is an absolute beast. A guy at work who likes to use his XL Espada as a hatchet ended up snapping the blade in half, but the lock itself was tight as can be. That minor batoning didnt even scratch the surface of what that knife can do. I want one.
f22shift a guy at work was chopping with his espada and broke the blade in half! It was the AUS 8 version. He sent it to CS and they replaced it with one of the New XHP models.
I've been using it for 4 weeks and picked it up for $144 and I couldn't agree with you more, the price is really reasonable, i can list knives with less material and costing more.
I scored an old school CS Twistmaster on eBay. It comes on Monday. It's going to be a long weekend. I've been chasing that knife for along time. Bidding usually goes over 100$ I got it for under 40$ shipped!!!
This is on my list of knives to get. Gonna soon too and I liked this video! Sold me on it. I can't justify spending the money for the 4 max since 200$ is about my top amount I let myself spend , I think this will fit the bill of what I want. Beast of a knife. I actually have the benchmade Stryker 2 damasteel gold class but that was given to me for sharpening almost 20 benchmade knives for this rich old guy with my kme lol. Never would have gotten it otherwise. But I can't wait to pick this knife up!
I just got my Cold Steel Recon1 Tanto half serrated as .y primary EDC knife. I like solid, quality tactical knives, and the SR1 is perfect for a beefy heavy use knife, and is one of my next knives to get. The Fourmax is awesome, but too big and expensive, and I double t I will ever over work the SR1. I Iove the clean, simple, no nonsense styling and thick blade.
Military grade generally means meets the bare minimum of the requirements and produced by the lowest bidder. Calling something military grade is usually anything but positive...
I think it needs to be a little sharper. But in a bad situation you could carve your way out of a metal trailer, split logs, stab someone. It would be more like a shtf 3 day knife. Thinking about sending to the Apostle to see if he can grind it down a little to make it sharper. Just a little more angle would make it better towards edge. While maintaining the witdh of the blade for ruggednes. If you can afford it the 4max covers it. But a real shtf situation I would have a straight blade
Bro that test is a joke! That knife can take that test with out even breaking a sweat It’s an SR1. But I like the video you are well spoken and good quality video! Thumbs up.. 👍🏼
I just recently bought a Benchmade 'Loco' (808) and I love the blade & the axis lock is great (and don't bother to tell me how superior the TriAd is - I've heard it all before) but I just cannot warm up to the ergos of the handle on that Loco. Wish I had considered this CS before that purchase. It was a toss up between the Loco & the Kizer 'Intrepid' as I wanted a heavy folder. Woulda coulda shoulda. Might still!! Thanks for the upload. Well presented as always.
All the knives look brand new or you take very good care of your knives. Can do a review of one once you have had it and really used for a while to show how well it's held up.
I think I found my conceal carry knife. This knife is great for conceal carry. I would carry a fixed blade, but that’s just too big. This knife is excellent.
DropForgedSurvival - I love my Finn Wolf cold steel folding knife, that is such a great quality folding knife. It’s amazing, but this is even better. It’s like the Finn Wolf, but on steroids. This is the knife I’ve been looking for.
I wouldn't sell the finn wolf short... it has that wicked scandi grind, and a softer steel. Add a strop to the mix and you can get those things razor-shaving sharp. The SR1 is a saber grind with a pronounced edge bevel, based on a thicker blade stock. IMHO the finn wolf should be a better slicer and fine carver, unless you re-profile the SR1 edge grind. I'd pick up a finn wolf if I didn't already own a Mora. x2 on the conceal carry though... can't do that (legally in my state) with a mora.
MuvoTX - Basically I want a bigger blade and a knife that could stand up to more serious punishment, the 4 max is just too expensive, and it seems the SR1 is quite capable right next to the 4 max. I would carry both the Finn Wolf and SR1 with me, so those would be my two knives which I think is an excellent combination. The 3.5” Blade and the Scandi grind on the Finn Wolf is great, way bigger than a lot of pocket folders that are only 3”. But I’m getting a concealed permit, so I want to be able to carry a bigger knife. The SR1 fits my needs perfectly in addition to the Finn Wolf which is already great.
MuvoTX - What state are you in? I live in Florida, with a conceal permit, carry anything you want so long as it isn’t a ballistic knife or an automatic. Other than that, all knives are legal with a permit. And without a permit, any knife under 4” is legal and so long as it’s a “common pocket knife”.
Awesome knife!Awesome review! Been waiting for this one. Would love to see you review QTR Master knives. A bit pricey but beast of knives and made in USA!
I had to break in my lock. But after a while it loosened up. This knife is thick and has a great edge. But not great at edc chores like you said because of the grind angle. Other than slicing, this knife excels at everything else and is totally worth the price. I wish they sand blasted the handle like the ultimate hunter, it would have made it better.
Due to the Tri-ad... Alot of other knives have alot of making up to do in the security and safety department. Regardless of heft, looks, or cutting performance... If it might cut me or have a lock failure.. after almost loosing a finger myself. I cant roll those dice.
Well.. what do you do for a living hoss? I love the vids.. wish I could drop the green to do my own reviews.. Nice review anyhow, great abuse footage.. Folders are backups, not main tools.. I have a Cold Steel Voyager from way back on 2004... works for a backup.. I never chop with it.. But the SR1, looks twice as thick.. I'd use that in a pinch without flinching after using my Voyager pretty hard without a prob.
People always say about how it's ALWAYS not as good as a fixed blade...but with the 4-Max and SR-1, maybe they actually are stronger than some fixed blade knives out there
I'm really starting to like Cold Steel knives. I really love the high end all the way down to the pocket bushman. Have you ever thought of testing the Cold Steel Working Man's Knife, the lower cost version of the Steve Austin line.
Yes... but cold steel has had alot of issues with the German 4116 line of steel in the past... I try to stick with BD1, XHP, CPM 20CV, S30V, S35VN, known steels.
I have a prolite which is pretty much a copy of the working man, I use for work almost every day and it holds an edge pretty good, you can get a prolite for 22 at knifecenter
But with any company at any time... any knife.. "can" break. Maybe not easily.. But that is why I push some of them if I have a expectation or someone calls it something like... "Mega Ninja Death 3000", Ultimate Tree Slammer, Power swing 850, Ultimate Survival, etc etc ELITE, and so on.
You make some really good points there brother and I have two of the knives I see in the screen I'm not sure what the other one is but damn the sr1 is a tank that's for sure love the video thanks!!
nice I would never try to snap action on a nice blade I use a shut bnb one I found.i found a kabsr at the river burried i n mud.it cant break .well it could but ad a 6 inch blade it's much thicker than a folders. I would use for batoning.i prefer the cold steel kukri for camping .nice chopper
I don't know why did you test tip of this knife on bark of a log ?? bark is loose material so this part of a test is compromised .... don't you think ??
I have one of these incoming today. will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the mora bushcraft that I carry on my treks. Biggest difference I can forsee is I can (legally) conceal carry the SR1. Does the pivot come with lock tite?
Where would you personally cut the weight I find this interesting because these types of comments help manufacturers take a second look at their designs and make great improvements.
Hive Mind-thanks for your interest., I would want the inside steel liners milled out(not completely)just enough to shave off an ounce and a half and it would not compromise the strength of the knife!
Barry Hemmy good point. I think maybe putting some fullers on the blade to then balance out the whole package after skeleton skeletonizing the liners would also lighten the knife even more.
Looks like a good knife. Not for me,.but a good knife. If you need SRK performance, buy an SRK and a smaller knife that is more "slicy" for the pocket.
Andy Steele actually it is illegal to edc a blade with more than 3 inches in length and has a locking mechanism but you can still buy locking, large and fixed blade knives as long as you do not edc them without a justifiable reason eg. You need it for your work(also you can keep them a home). If all that makes sense
Hi you plan on getting the Tanto version of this knife? I want to pull the trigger on the Tanto version but am hoping for a test and reviews first. There's none at all.
Coldsteel SR1 is my everyday carry. Love it. It's the pocket tank, it's super stable, heavy duty and amazing.
Definitely a tank
I LOVE THIS KNIFE. I had the RECON 1, and it was amazing and built tough. THIS SEEMS TO TAKE THAT UP A NOTCH. Will buy it soon. Thanks for the in depth review and USE of the knife for us to see.
NexisFilms I bought one 2 days ago from coldsteel authorized retailer but there is no serial number or anything stamped on the blade or box unfortunately lots of counterfeit cs blades on ebay once u get the knife there is a fb cold steel nation join that and post pictures lots of cs users and experts there can verify it for you
@NexisFilms yes thats one way to know its a monster and a half blade so wont be easy to counterfeit easily
Thanks for the review. You're the only person on UA-cam who has put this knife through the paces.
Sadly... That is a rather common occurrence...
The sr1 is amazing, to say the least. Been enjoying mine very much. soo fricking durable an holds an edge forever..
This is an awesome folder for the money
I picked one of these up for use at work and as a backup knife when im out in the woods. If i lose or break my fixed blade its comforting to know i still have this in my pocket.
I'll just have to put that on my Christmas wish list
I'm just glad Cold Steel is putting out some really good functional knives. The novelty knives tend to get old. I think I'm going to pic this one up, it's right in that size range I like.
Its one of my all time favorites already!
great knife! Never thought I give up edc-ing my Finn Wolf but this knife looks ready for any emergency that might pop up.
For the money... The finn wolf and several others are not bad at all as light duty edc.... and shouldnt be tossed to the wayside. But for hard use and duty... it takes a special breed of blade.
DropForgedSurvival Don't get me wrong, love my Finn Wolf but like an even stronger beater knife for emergencies
I own both models of the SR1, great knives.
Which is better in your opinion?
This is one of those knife you want to carry with you just in case as in the movies your day starts quite normal and then suddenly shit hit the fan and all post apocalyptic shit happens lolss jokes aside this is a folder you can bet your life on its same thickness as the cs srk
I must've missed that one. I just got the Immortal, which is sick. Want a 4max, but that price tag!! CPM20CV though.... Argh. Finn Wolf coming today.
Hope you do a review on the Finn Wolf. I ordered one yesterday. My thought is that the Finn Wolf can "replace" the stainless Mora by being easier/smaller to carry. The Triad Lock should hold up to things you would ask a Mora to do.
PREPAREDMIND101 I have the Immortal, Khan, and grik on the way! I love my SR1
PREPAREDMIND101 does the immortal have liners? I wanted to get one but that and the hollow grind has deterred me
This knife would cut down to the bone 🔥🔥
The triad lock is an absolute beast. A guy at work who likes to use his XL Espada as a hatchet ended up snapping the blade in half, but the lock itself was tight as can be. That minor batoning didnt even scratch the surface of what that knife can do. I want one.
Oh I know.. lol The Sr1 is a tank!
Does warranty cover that ? Seems like the espada blade is prone to chipping.
f22shift a guy at work was chopping with his espada and broke the blade in half! It was the AUS 8 version. He sent it to CS and they replaced it with one of the New XHP models.
My favorite coldsteel folder. Will buy more when they switch g10 colors.
Great review. I've been considering the SR-1 for a while now. It'll be my first Cold Steel.
Thank you so much, I've had my eye on this knife forever and you are the only person with a valuable video on this knife.
Noah Colburn I try to make show what knives can do and what others can't do
I've been using it for 4 weeks and picked it up for $144 and I couldn't agree with you more, the price is really reasonable, i can list knives with less material and costing more.
Donttreadonme1001
where did you get it for 144? i got it for 160
Francisco Gonzalez knife plus had it originally for 144 but I just saw it for 149
if it drops down to around $99 at Christmas time, I'm picking one up
Good Luck... For S35VN? I couldnt believe this was below $200 to be honest.
I normally carry a Vaquero XL, but that SR1 is tempting
Thank you for posting your review. I am ansolutely sold on this knife! I want one now.
Absolutely.
I scored an old school CS Twistmaster on eBay. It comes on Monday. It's going to be a long weekend. I've been chasing that knife for along time. Bidding usually goes over 100$ I got it for under 40$ shipped!!!
Awesome video like always. That baby Max looks like a pretty decent knife.
Very Solid
This is on my list of knives to get. Gonna soon too and I liked this video! Sold me on it. I can't justify spending the money for the 4 max since 200$ is about my top amount I let myself spend , I think this will fit the bill of what I want. Beast of a knife. Never would have gotten it otherwise. But I can't wait to pick this knife up!
For the Price point of this knife. You cant beat it...
I would say the sr1 carries a lot easier than the 4max at 1/2 of the price. SR1 is the best budget tank folder at this price.
Carries similarly to me personally. But yes... It is far far cheaper overall.
Looks like a good blade.
The 4max has my heart... unless cold steel creates the Production version of the 5max... OH MAN!
Looks like a winner Chris. It's going on the list.
Yes it can it's a tough knife I got the I have the sr1 lite the 60 dollar one tanto version tough baton wood
Military grade generally means meets the bare minimum of the requirements and produced by the lowest bidder.
Calling something military grade is usually anything but positive...
This is the cold steel that peaked my interest the most.
I think it needs to be a little sharper. But in a bad situation you could carve your way out of a metal trailer, split logs, stab someone. It would be more like a shtf 3 day knife. LOVE my SR-1!!! Great video too btw...
Love it. Just wish they had it in different colors.
I'm a black fan all out. I love the subdued nature of the blackout at night with no reflection.
Dr. Mark Who the hell are you trying to sneak up on with your knife?!?!
Bro that test is a joke! That knife can take that test with out even breaking a sweat It’s an SR1. But I like the video you are well spoken and good quality video! Thumbs up.. 👍🏼
To be fair. This was the FIRST test on this knife on youtube. Haha 😆
I just recently bought a Benchmade 'Loco' (808) and I love the blade & the axis lock is great (and don't bother to tell me how superior the TriAd is - I've heard it all before) but I just cannot warm up to the ergos of the handle on that Loco. Thanks for the upload. Well presented as always.
This one is worth it.
"A good thing about this blade is, i like it"
Well i already know its good so ill take your word for it
I see that mandalorian symbol on your 4 max. That is extremely cool 🖒🖒
Wow, thats a cool blade!
All the knives look brand new or you take very good care of your knives. Can do a review of one once you have had it and really used for a while to show how well it's held up.
I'd like to see a comparison with the Adamas. Especially in terms of blade dimensions and washers used
it looks like it would be easy on the hand, I like the handle shape
It is very straight forward.
I think I found my conceal carry knife. This knife is great for conceal carry. I would carry a fixed blade, but that’s just too big. This knife is excellent.
Right on!
DropForgedSurvival - I love my Finn Wolf cold steel folding knife, that is such a great quality folding knife. It’s amazing, but this is even better. It’s like the Finn Wolf, but on steroids. This is the knife I’ve been looking for.

I love that blade...awesome video as always....take carw
I 💘 the knife. And you did such a great review of it, I had to get it. I bought it from ecop for $130.00. Keep up the good work Chris
Awesome knife!Awesome review! Been waiting for this one. Would love to see you review QTR Master knives. A bit pricey but beast of knives and made in USA!
I have seen and handle them all.. Not mind blowing for me at all.
Nice profile of a folder!
That is one amazing pocket knife!😎👍👌
Agreed!
I really enjoy your videos, man.
Thanks alot Ethan
Okay. Now you’re in trouble. You’ve gone and forced me to order one..... lol It’s a BEAST !!
I would love a blacked out hardware and blade model with the green g-10. Kinda like the broken skull you showed.
Erik Saxe your right. That would be sick with the dlc coating
Cool and strong knife
Muy Fuerte
I was looking at the Adamus from benchmade, but I'm definitely looking at this as an alternative
Due to the Tri-ad... Alot of other knives have alot of making up to do in the security and safety department. Regardless of heft, looks, or cutting performance... If it might cut me or have a lock failure.. after almost loosing a finger myself. I cant roll those dice.
Great Videos...Thanks!! Awesome looking knife, definitely on my wish list.
Nice video man, I recognized the name from Tac's channel. Good stuff sir.
Well.. what do you do for a living hoss? I love the vids.. wish I could drop the green to do my own reviews.. Nice review anyhow, great abuse footage.. Folders are backups, not main tools.. I'd use that in a pinch without flinching after using my Voyager pretty hard without a prob.
Since this video was made, has there been a knife that can beat this value? Right now you can snatch it up for $160.
The SR1 lite.
Just got one in trade. Looking forward to putting it to use.
People always say about how it's ALWAYS not as good as a fixed blade...but with the 4-Max and SR-1, maybe they actually are stronger than some fixed blade knives out there
I like it! Just got one myself 😁
Right on Right On!
awesome folding srk
Made in Taiwan, super proud of it. Amazing engineering.
You must be in Taiwan. lol
CS is distinguished by its sharp out of the box.
I just got the Tanto version of the SR1!!!! You got to get one and do a review!!!
Not enough of a difference to be honest. but... I have another ill be looking into very soon.
Imagine you let the fire consume the wood chips and the knife 😂😂
Nice knife!!!
Heck. Very glad I snagged one for EDC and Testing
Idk if the one I got is a fake but it has up and down blade play. Got it off amazon so I think I’m gonna go through a true AD when I return this one.
Weird. It should be rock solid
I would be completely and utterly surprised if the lock failed it's a cold steel after all
But with any company at any time... any knife.. "can" break. Maybe not easily.. But that is why I push some of them if I have a expectation or someone calls it something like... "Mega Ninja Death 3000", Ultimate Tree Slammer, Power swing 850, Ultimate Survival, etc etc ELITE, and so on.
Christian _t_g_ that is the triad lock. The best lock you can get for a folder IMO
spider5001 honestly don't even think that's an opinion
You make some really good points there brother and I have two of the knives I see in the screen I'm not sure what the other one is but damn the sr1 is a tank that's for sure love the video thanks!!
Nice blade i love cold steel products great video as normall and when is outdoor momma going to make a new video
We are working on that... long story short.. We both work outside of the Tube's... So it can be hard to squeeze in even 1 extra video per week
DropForgedSurvival i completly understand i work 50 hrs a week on average ...and i still cant afford either one of those knives lol
Wants to give SR1 a work out...cuts yarn.
Them grandmas know what they are doing
Haha Hahahaha
You might have to fight your way out of an inferno in a Beanie Baby factory
nice I would never try to snap action on a nice blade I use a shut bnb one I found.i found a kabsr at the river burried i n mud.it cant break .well it could but ad a 6 inch blade it's much thicker than a folders. I would use for batoning.i prefer the cold steel kukri for camping .nice chopper
I don't know why did you test tip of this knife on bark of a log ?? bark is loose material so this part of a test is compromised .... don't you think ??
Vyacheslav Ioffe yup. Might as well be stabbing fruitcake
I own one also and love it. I am going to get another one. I have 2 hands, right?
That's cool if you have 2 hands...I dont......only one......cut the one hand off with my cold steel 4max..........be very careful...
I have one of these incoming today. will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the mora bushcraft that I carry on my treks. Biggest difference I can forsee is I can (legally) conceal carry the SR1. Does the pivot come with lock tite?
Right on!
Very good Video! The SR1 is one of my all-time Cold Steel favorites! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Love the review and a great knife.I wish it was an ounce lighter and has a waivable thumb disk
The weight doesnt bother me at all.. That Thumb Plate would be awesome.
Yes indeed
Thank you for the video brother
Looks like a good knife. Not for me,.but a good knife. If you need SRK performance, buy an SRK and a smaller knife that is more "slicy" for the pocket.
Definitely not for everyone for sure. but a tank nonetheless.
Just picked up the SR1 Lite tanto for $35‼️ on Jungle River store. Its stupid thick sharpened crowbar, and insanely strong.
You did a good job, you really did. Plz keep up the good work. God bless sir.. Also I just subscribed to your channel
Ok just as a life hack kinda trick and since outdoor momma is a vapor you should check out making fire with vape juice its a cool trick
Nice vid man 🔥
Have you tried to switch the pocket clip over on this? Returned mine as CSK uses a floating sleeve for the clip screws couldn't get them to set again.
This is an awesome video❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍!!!!!!
Thanks alot Joel
Thanks dude
Is that the sword from Braveheart?
Damn... I live in the Uk and this knife costs around £240 which is about 340 dollars which is absolutely crazy
Bayley Anderson I thought knives were illegal there.
Andy Steele actually it is illegal to edc a blade with more than 3 inches in length and has a locking mechanism but you can still buy locking, large and fixed blade knives as long as you do not edc them without a justifiable reason eg. You need it for your work(also you can keep them a home). If all that makes sense
Same price here in Sweden.
Super!
Hi you plan on getting the Tanto version of this knife? I want to pull the trigger on the Tanto version but am hoping for a test and reviews first. There's none at all.
I'd like to see you make some feather sticks with it, do some carving.
You would be waiting awhile.
Wow. Great folder.. what a beefy knife....great buy.....
That it is
Why can't you have a hair popping stout knife? Just because a knife is build tough doesn't mean it's ok for it to be dull.
It's definitely not military grade. It's expensive, high quality and durable which is exactly the opposite of military grade.
You mean military grade = cheap + low quality + disposable? I am confused... Walmart knives are military grade I guess.
I never had anything issued to me during my 6 years and 2 combat deployments fail. That is besides the gerber multi tool. That thing was junk.
i like cts xhp over s35vn
I would take either steel all day.
if someone robs your house poor of him you have too many knives, hatchets, machetes etc btw keep up the good work!!
Thanks for the real world look at a useful tool
it looks like the heavyweight version of my finn wolf!
I can see that! lol
My comment is as follows :
I am going to have to get one..... and a 4 max, and a skull crusher !!!
i wuold trust my life on this knife
That is what we "hope" for with overbuilt knives... but that is still rare.
