- KHOU 11 Chief Meteorologist David Paul has the latest on Hurricane Beryl, which is heading toward Mexican destinations along the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
This guy is a good weatherman. He does a good job of explaining things.
He's the best in Houston, has been so for the last 10 plus years.

Thankyou for educated and rational analysis, rather than hype and doomsday!!! As a pilot who flies out of IAH I appreciate your down to earth approach to forecasting. I can take 'ifs', 'buts' and 'maybes', if they are validated by the current models. The fact that you quoted both the US and Euro models shows you take info from various sources and aren't out to exaggerate and scare like certain other channels. Good job Sir.👏👏
I'm a flight attendant out of IAH but luckily don't fly until next week but already figure there will be issues...
Did either of those models predict a Cat 5 in the Lesser Antilles? Did either model say it would remain Cat 4 until Jamaica? The models and the weathermen have not learned to predict rapid intensification. In fact, they seem to not understand it at all.
I'm in Cancun, watching this to see what's happening outside since we're locked in and disconnected TV...

I think the models are underestimating the potential for rapid intensification that will be possible given the very warm water temps present in the Gulf. May hit as a Cat 2 or higher. I see gas prices going up because of this.

For those of you in South Texas, counting on a storm intensifying at less than an average rate is lunacy at this point. It's best to be prepared for the rapid intensification that for some reason still stymies weatherman every year (including this storm as it approached the Lesser Antilles). It's best to prepare for at least a Cat 3 because that is more than likely what is coming. Worst case; it doesn't happen and you got some practice for what is inevitable as time goes on (that's not actually the worst case).

There is little question Beryl is heading directly to Galveston/Houston. The "models" are completely underestimating the chances for a turn to the north and it will gain much strength in the GOM in the meantime.

They said the slower the storm the more west it will take. The faster the most northern it will take.
Don't need it inland south Texas we aren't built for that weather. Lots of homes will be destroyed even in a cat one
Hurricane Beryl is Category Juuly 4,2024. 11:30PM and is hitting The Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Cameron County,Texas will have much rain. Probably 4-5 days of rain.

Is it true that Cat 2 means the wind is strong enough to lift 2 cats, and Cat 5 winds are much stronger and can lift 5 cats? If not, why do they call it "cat" strength?

Well it’s a CAT 3 now. All the independent meteorologist have been calling this for days. Wish our local channels did their own analysis of the data instead of just reading the National Weather Service script. People go to citizen journalists because this is a joke at this point. I’ve watched this storm from the very beginning because the forecast was wrong right out of the gate and the MSM is following it instead of telling us about all the models involved in the data.
