    TRANSCRIPT:
Cardio isn't everyone's jam. It's no secret - if you regularly attend those dreaded cardio classes on Mondays or Wednesdays, you're probably in the minority, right? The work sets are generally longer, they make us breathe heavier, and they just feel harder compared to strength days. But that is by design to deliver the cardiovascular benefits that you may be missing by avoiding those Triple Double or Redline workouts.
Cardiovascular exercise is any physical activity that raises your heart rate and improves the function of your heart, lungs, and circulatory system. To be an effective cardio session, your chosen activity needs to keep your heart rate elevated for a specific amount of time, which is typically 20 to 60 minutes. Running, rowing, cycling, and plyometrics are all excellent examples of cardio exercises that target the large muscles of your body while elevating your heart rate… they’re also regularly part of F45 cardio workouts.
There are a ton of well-known, research-supported benefits to cardio exercise you may already know, such as improved heart health, weight loss and management, and reduced risk of diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. But there are also other benefits that may not immediately come to mind when you think about cardio. Recent studies suggest cardiovascular exercise has positive impacts on mood, stress and anxiety reduction, better-quality sleep, and improved brain mass and health which can help reduce the risks of dementia and cognitive decline. There are even anti-aging properties linked to cardiovascular exercise that can help you look and feel younger.
So, while it might feel tough, cardio is definitely good for you. So, ignore that shiver down your spine when you think about those cardio days, and instead get to work. You’ll be glad you did…once it’s over.
