I was just down at the reception today to get some ice, and it was playing again. Of course I had to search for "Paper Moon" on YT. Damn it, it's actually legendary Ella Fitzgerald singing !! Had no idea, shame on me. I love her little improvisations between the male backround choir repeating the verses. Anyhows, this is now one of my favourite songs.
Ella Fitzgerald was/is (cause we have the recordings) a wonderful lyricist. She may have been Sinatra's favorite. Paper (Mache?) Moon over a cardboard sea. So apt for our times.

It was around ~1960 I think. Back then this was a pretty big event here. And yeah, my parents have been together since late 50s.
Some a 45 years ago when I was in the Bar Admission course, we wrote exams every 2-3 weeks. To relax we'd go to Toronto's Groaning Board, where the current Band, Short Turn used to perform this, sung by Sharon Keates.

Fitzgerald's voice is so beautiful and the different images of her at different times in her career are wonderful to view. Much preferable to "scat", in my opinion.
