Nice to see a modest ans simple scooter getting some very decent TLC,. For a change. Usually YT has tons of videos of scooters being trashed for no particular reason other than stupidity. Thumbs up. Cheers
Great idea with melting cable ties as filler material. Didn't know their plastic compound construction was the same as the plastic fenders and such. Thanks for the ideas!
If i were your neighbour , the beer would be on me!. What a refreshing new technique. Welding plastic...i,m realy surprized. Verry good job mate, Thank you!!!
Hey i did this few days ago with a ziptie and i find your video way after, now i know i did it well, and you give me also assurance to make it better , smooth finish and well paint to, it was really fun and informative to watch this video. Thank you.
Well done Mate! I love channels like these for the DIY kinda guy. So great to learn new techniques. Now I reckon I just need to go break something, so I can plastic weld it back together. Cheers!
I was going to put some fiberglass and resin on the inside of the broken plastics for reinforcement and then filler in the cracks, sand and paint... im so glad i watched this video first. I was hesitant about plastic welding, but now I know I can use readily available zipties. It looks great! 👍 I have a rare scooter that they don't make anymore and parts are scarce, so replacement isn't an option!
Great video Martin, it's so good to learn something new as well, kind of reminded me of the old technique for repairing body panels (pre 1970's) when lead was melted into damaged areas
Cables Ties what an excellent way to fix cracked fairings; I wish I new this way when my son and I put together a damaged fairing on his motorcycle. Well done you did a cracking job on that Scooter, there's no hint on the state it was in before you repaired it. 👍 Ps: Martin hope you're doing fine now just make sure that you don't over do it, keep well. 😉
Love your videos on both channels. Good honest restoring of so many different things. Done with tools most of us have. I do though prefer it now your talking in these resto videos :-)
YES !!!!! Been waiting on my ButlerFix for ages ...... though I appreciate you’re still not yet firing on all 4 cylinders. Hope your feeling much better Martin, absolute trooper to keep uploading while you’re sick. Another great video as always. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Another Great Job again Martin,By the way I have noted that when you have done work on your Transit you have used Vactan as a rust inhibitor. I have just removed the roof rack off my 2008 Transit there is rust on the roof edges and and in the center of the roof where access over the years was difficult to clean. Now when the weather improves I will try that Vactan I have just bought on the rust before I spray the roof. So Thanks for your info on Vactan and I will let you know how I get on with it.
You, sir, are brilliant! Who’d have thought to use plastic zip ties and a solderer? Great video, excellent work, and you can bet I’m sub’ing. Thanks for sharing!
Martin, they do make epoxies, for lack of a better word, to repair those type materials. But if you can do basically the same thing, go for it. Nice ideas as usual...
Dear M;artin, one tip, grab the line together and then drill small holes in it, after the first plastic soldering, then solder again. Makes it even stronger, like rivets going through. No one in Germany repairs those scooters though. Even shops refuse to do though. Chinese made crap. Glad you do it.
Great job mate,if I can Ofer one bit of advise is to drill a small hole at the end of the crack this will stop it spreading further ,I’ve fixed a few drones the same way
I bought myself a set of Wera Alen Keys or Hex Plus. I rounded off a bolt with standard keys, and the hex plus managed to get in there and save my arse! Available in Metric and Imperial. I recommend them.
Got a nice fishtail parka you can borrow, armed with your Dansetta, some northern soul vinyl and a fishtail parka and you'll be ready for the seaside fun :D
Great job plastic welding. I was thinking about buying the plastic welding kit from harbor freight with the heat rod and the metal clips ... but once again you have shown that English craftsmanship can overcome anything. How much money do you figure you saved by repairing these parts versus purchasing new parts? How do you determine if your material composition matches? That is to say...how can you tell if one type of plastic material is compatible to weld with another material? Love your videos. Love your personality. Keep up the great work. You
What a great job . And really clearly explained so we all can understand the process, I have a question if I may , my Mums mobility scooter got badly damaged in a local electrical store . A new panel for this scooter is obsolete and so would be either very expensive to replace or impossible to find a replacement part . the damage is on the front. would this process you have used for this bike Possibly work for and my mums ability scooter panel which looks to be made of a similar material . Your thoughts on this please would be much appreciated . I can send some photos on messenger if you have time to look . Thank you for reading my message. And taking the time to make this video 😁
Yes, it would work. If it is just cracks, just do as I did in this video. If there are pieces missing, you'll need to repair thiose bits maybe with a fiberglass repair kit.
Held together with cable ties-but not in the way you'd think! Genius!
5:11 WOW, that looks like a cool custom marble pattern!
I would leave it like that to add some character to my ride!
Nice to see a modest ans simple scooter getting some very decent TLC,. For a change.
Usually YT has tons of videos of scooters being trashed for no particular reason other than stupidity.
Thumbs up. Cheers
Great to see someone actually mending something instead of just throwing it away! Good job sir!
Amazing skills my man. I was scanning the entire internet looking for it. The result itself was impressive good. Many thanks!
God bless you thanks....😊👍 Very useful....👌👍
Welcome 😊
Great idea with melting cable ties as filler material. Didn't know their plastic compound construction was the same as the plastic fenders and such. Thanks for the ideas!
Welding plastic. With a soldering iron and cable ties. Genius.
Brilliant job Martin. I learned something with the cable ties. I’m impressed. lol
That was definetly a fantastic idea to use the cable ties as filler, I'll be using this idea when needed. You are the man Martin.
If i were your neighbour , the beer would be on me!. What a refreshing new technique. Welding plastic...i,m realy surprized.

Very very well restoration! I love your channel
Great job and a fix I've used in the past....another thing I do is drill a small hole at the end of the split just to stop further cracking.
Good as new Martin. Only time I've done plastic welding was in 1985 when I bought the new crashed 550 Kawasaki.
Yes Malc, this turned out great and was very strong as well.
excellent work! If you didn't know it was busted it would pass for new.
Hi great vids mate,very therapeutic.
From Southend on Sea area.
Top Job! great idea of using cable ties, will have to remember that fix! looks like your collecting mopeds in the log cabin.. new projects?. Joe
Felicitaciones Martin!! gran vídeo, esperando el próximo!
Martin, they do make epoxies, for lack of a better word, to repair those type materials. But if you can do basically the same thing, go for it. Nice ideas as usual...

Great job mate,if I can Ofer one bit of advise is to drill a small hole at the end of the crack this will stop it spreading further ,I’ve fixed a few drones the same way
Yes I normally do that but I didn't bother on this one.
That's that they do with small cracks on airliner wings, just to make you feel safer
A great help. Thank you . Deep breath here we go 🤕
Very good job 👍
I bought myself a set of Wera Alen Keys or Hex Plus. I rounded off a bolt with standard keys, and the hex plus managed to get in there and save my arse!

Thanks for this, never thought to plastic weld the farings! (Note for others the fumes are quite toxic so mask up 😉)
Got a nice fishtail parka you can borrow, armed with your Dansetta, some northern soul vinyl and a fishtail parka and you'll be ready for the seaside fun :D
Loving that ska backing music, sounds well like the Specials having one of their jams, spot on I say :)
Haha, you can't beat a bit of ska Ian lol

The plastic fairing had an ABS plastic mark on it and the cable ties were the same material.
