Great video. There probably is a way to do this but I'd love to be able to say have my drum sequencer (AD2) initially as a standard 1/2 track outputting to the master still load up as such, but then after I'm finished editing and creating my midi files, now use what you've shown here and output ea individual track (or stereo track) to it's own audio track for further balancing and processing as I get close to mixing. I realize I can set my sequence to automatically create all outputs to individual tracks when I first load it but for my workflow, I like to keep as much off my mixer as I can when creating a piece of music so being able to essentially export all the midi down to audio in a bounce, I think could work for me. Maybe I'm missing something though.
When you add the AD2 plugin, the default routing will have the plugin's Master L/R connected to the track's channels 1 and 2 (which will go to Reaper's master out channels a.k.a the 2-bus). You can add multichannel routing to any multi-out plugin at any time, either manually or via a shortcut. The shortcut: Open the FX window on the track your plugin is on, select AD2 in the list (possibly it's the only thing there at this point) and in the top menu item "Options" choose "Build multichannel routing for output of selected FX..." You'll get a confirmation dialog, hit OK and it will create a bunch of new tracks and add sends for the individual kit pieces, OH, Room, Bus and Master from your plugin track to those. Now open the plugin pin connector window (above the plugin, the button "18 out" ). Only the Master L and Master R plugin channels may be connected to the *track*'s channels at this point. Connect the rest by simply clicking in the grid, basically drawing a diagonal line when done. Finally, you need to tell AD2 to send each internal plugin channel to "Separate Out" -- choose this underneath each channel in AD2's built-in mixer, it's an arrow-down icon. One of the new tracks created above will be for AD2's Master. If you don't need that anymore, e.g. when you're done editing and want to bounce your tracks for mixing, you can 1) simply delete that channel, 2) disconnect the Master L/R from within the plugin pin window or 3) just mute the Master in AD2. The manual way involves creating each send yourself and setting the pin connectors. As long as you retain your MIDI items on the plugin's track, you're always on the safe side and flexible, since the routing stuff can always be tweaked, deleted and re-done at any point.
thanx for cutting the video into two parts. i think there is some natural limit of about 15min. if a video is longer, i either have to be extremely interested, or i don’t even start watching in the first place. about the channels in reaper. to me the terminology is a little misleading. coming from analog tape recording the tape machine had tracks, that you could input into the channels of the mixer. from there you could route them to different busses. so what you call channels in reaper, i rather would have referred to as busses.
Hi Kenny - You've enhanced my enjoyment of Reaper immensely, etc. and I'm glad you're here - I'm repeating kudos I've made on many of your other videos. I have noticed a trend. I say this tongue-in-cheek (kind-of), but it seems as though the female vocalists you exhibit are elusively members of the "Man Haters Club". With relatively little variation, the lyrics typically exhibit significant unhappiness with some "guy" (or someone). What's up with that? I love your work, but I'm developing a reaverb complex from my past (did you catch that?) - they're just never happy. Listen to the past few (I watch them as YT offers them - not necessarily sequentially.) Is it just me? All in fun, but also with concern. Still love your tutorials!!! All the best to you! :)
@@MantasticHams Kenny is giving an awesome lesson - happy, interesting, joyous, fun, and then there is some unhappy woman killing the vibe. It's setting a confusing precedent - enough so I noticed it. I'm smiling, then I'm confused about the lyrical choice. Used to be more happy than unhappy lyrics. Maybe it's the new way of the world. People can't express their joy anymore, or would rather not. Not a problem, just a (comical) observation.
are there any free plugins for guitar? something that i can just get some basic and generic guitar sounds without having to marry a bunch of pedal, amp sims and IRs? many thanks kenny
Wow, this is great. I asked a question in the comments a few days ago about channels and bang here's a video explaining it. Thank you !
That's probably why. Thank you.
Thanks, Kenny.
The light has dawned, thanks to you.

Kenny your a god send!! Love all your tuts, especially the ones I need ha!
Great vid! I've never explored multichannel files but this gave me so many ideas.
So helpful. Thank you Kenny!
Useful! Is it not possible though to physically cut the track in half horizontally and split it that way?
Kenny is the goat hands down! Not too take away from anyone else..but Kenny is the truth 💪🏾💪🏾💯
Very great and thank you Kenny. It's very helpful.
Wonderful information! Thank you

Get over yourself, noone cares how much you hate women or how scared you are of never having sex. Go make music.
Concern?
