Firstly Allan I really enjoy your channel, you were making my mouth water watching you review the GD15, I live in the US state in NC and our Scotch selection here is very limited.. I recently came across a bottle of GA15 and it is quickly becoming my go to bottle..If I ever come across a bottle of GD15 I will not hesitate..Cheers!

Thank you Chris both are awesome however the GA 15 seems better value here and its getting better all the time where as i think the GD 15 might be on the decline...happy to have both on the shelf....thanks for dropping by my friend....😜🥃

I agree with you that the more you sip the GD15, the more you get out of it.. it's changes and gets better as you drink it. Beautifully balanced. Cheers Fella.

i bought a bottle of glendronach 15 6 months ago. after my first sip, i knew it was special. it blew away macallan 15 and its a fraction of the cost. im going on an african safari in 3 months and we got a bottle on tamdhu 15 which i am super excited to try! the prob with scotch is the more i get into the hobby the more expensive it becomes.

Having started my journey after the original Glendronach 15 became unreachable I have to say I prefer the Glenallachie to the 2019/20 Dronach 15 (now the bottle is half full). Would love to try the earlier Dronach 15's but I guess they compare to the now 18, which is a different level. :) Great video Alan.

Alan, Thanks for the H2H tastings and ratings. Locally around Myrtle Beach, the GD Cask Strength Batch 7 is about $99 and the GD 15 is hard to find but around $110. Haven't seen the GA 15 but do enjoy the GA 12. CHEERS!!

the whisky friend - cheers mate. :) I'm from Australia. Came late to whisky as a 40something year old. Have definitely developed a taste for the Sherry part of the whisky spectrum as I approached 50. My first GD was the modern era Revival. It blew me away and turned me into a GD fan instantly. So I can relate to your "positive" views on the GD15! Even with the 18, 21 and other GD expressions, it's still my fave. Thanks for your vid.

Not tried the Glenallachie 15 but by coincidence I just opened a bottle of the GlenDronach 15 last night Alan. Took a while to open up for me, the glass lasted me a couple of hours and it changed a lot over that time. Looking forward to seeing how it develops over time in the bottle. Cheers, Chris.

Great review Alan, big fan of GD and got a half full bottle of the 15 on the go currently (gets better over time ) and interesting comparison esp with the past/present Billy W connection across both distillery owners.Great to see GD strong currently and Rachel is getting some good stuff out BenRiach also. . Great to have good, quality driven competition between them all, can only benfit us all...

i 'discovered' GD 15 a decade ago and like you 'twas my go to scotch for years, and i was gutted when it was withdrawn in 2015, and upon it's re-introduction in 2018 i have to say i was disappointed, and doubly disappointed now that they use chill filtering, so much so i dont buy it anymore, it just seemed a lot 'thinner', especially as the price rocketed up as well, although i have bought some allardice since, but thats now hard to get, especially the old bottles that contain much older whisky. Yesterday i ordered a bottle of glenallachie 15 and Kavalan sherry oak looking for that sherry hit again, so am looking forward to trying them. I still have an old bottling of GD 15, but there it sits on my shelf as a reminder of what has been lol, and i know when i decide to drink it then it's gone forever, unless i pay well over the odds at an auction, and that just aint me... thanks for the review anyway., GL

Nice comparison review Alan! I did this tasting as well. The Revival wins that hands down, both older and new version. The Glenallachie 15 was a let down for me. In fact, I really didn't like it at all. The Revival is fully matured in sherry casks but the Glenallachie is only a sherry finish. I am looking forward to trying the Glenallachie oloroso 6213 and px 6580 single casks though. Cheers!

After 2 major disapointments in Glendronach 15 (which was nothing like it used to be. The light color of the whisky indicated that well) and Glenfarclas 15 (which has totally lost it) I had great hopes for this one. With it’s nice dark color telling me that this will make up for the other 2 duds I lift the glass and bring it towards my nose, anticipating notes of dark chocolate, dried fruits, christmas cake, I get... well not much at first. But after a little while I get this massive note of elder berry.. elder berry cider to be more precise and I don’t like it at all in a whisky. Also gooseberries and just dryness. It changes back and forth and just for a brief moment it shows a small hint of sherry influence but it disappears very quick. On the taste it’s pretty much the same with a mineral note that reminds me of lukewarm tapwater. Probably the strangest whisky I’ve ever had.
As a sidenote I can say that this has been the worst whiskychristmas ever! I could have wiped my ass with the money instead.

Really sorry to hear Rolf... As I stated my life changing whisky was the original GD15 Revival and yes your are correct they are not the same as the original had much older stocks in it as the GD18 has now also.. I have had 2 bottles of the new 15 and sent samples everywhere with almost everybody feeding back how much they enjoyed. It... As I stated to compare both GD 15's would be another video... But a little unfair on the new one... So I'm surprised you felt it so bad and again sorry this is the case I am now on my 3rd bottle and enjoying it... However I had a poor experience with the Glenallachie 15 originally but that has improved... Where do you live and maybe I can send a sample of my GD15 and see if it is just a bad bottle you have... Cheers for the feedback fella.

      the whisky friend
I’ll live. I still have some Glendronach 18 to cheer me up.
When it comes to the Glendronach 15 I don’t think it has that much to do with the older stock in the earlier batches compared to the new ones. I’ve had younger whiskies, that’s only been finished in oloroso for about 3 years (Edradour 12 Caledonia for example), that have had more sherry influence in the smell and taste than the new Glendronach 15 so I think it has to do with Rachel Berrie and her selection of casks and her personel preference in this style of whisky. I doubt there is a big portion of first fill in the new release but it should be, it should be a sherry bomb so my problem is that they released this as the revival. The should have called it something else. I live in Sweden but you don’t have to bother but I appreciate your offer, very nice of you! Cheers!

I can't find a Glenallachie 15 in my area - around Chicago. The Glendronach 18 goes for $160 compared to $120 for the Glenallachie 18. The GD 12 was $60 to the GA 12's $45. So a substantial premium on the Glendronachs. I did locate a Glendronach 15 for $90.
