The loss of Scott was heartbreaking because everyone saw him struggling and not only with addiction or substance use disorder but with bipolar depressive disorder. The meds to treat BPD are often not very “nice” to the person taking them - they not only take away that manic high when BPD patients usually feel their best, but they cause secondary symptoms such as Parkinsonism. I truly believe Scott was experiencing Parkinsonism towards the end he has multiple symptoms present in videos. Add these symptoms to depression and substance use disorder and he was unfortunately experiencing the perfect storm. Then we add in numerous losses he experienced and cancer diagnosis of his mom. It’s just horrible.
Losing Scott, Kurt, Chris, and Layne not only impacted their families but an entire generation “Gen X” - hopefully musicians today are able to get help when needed.
However if we look at Hinder, it feels like they just abandoned Austin when he relapsed. It makes me wonder what these bandmates do to support their team when someone has a substance use disorder. Do they carry on partying or do they help by not allowing particular substances to be in their green room??
